Notice:
Level 2508.1 has been designated Impresario Class Priority. If you have suddenly been assigned to Level 2508.1, please read the following document.
Reason: Images have anomalous effects, although they differ from 2508.
Protocol: Do not stare at the images for extended periods, even in peripheral vision. Symptoms are overwhelming sadness, helplessness, hostility, and paranoia. These images, although rarely, may cause one to develop psychosis or severe emotional distress.
Level 2508.1, is a sub-level of Level 2508.
Description
Level 2508.1 consists of a full planet, complete with icy mountains and plains. Logs identify the planet as being named 'Varakk'. Large cities are scattered around the planet. These cities are mostly abandoned, though housing most wanderers who have decided to live there. The majority of the planet is forested, though some areas of rocky plains and more tropical areas are possible as well. Constant fog usually covers the entire planet, although it may clear, or allow precipitation. Warm days and chilly nights are observed on the planet, with average temperatures ranging from 50 to 150 degrees. Doxasménos usually roam the mountains, making climbing unadvised.
Notable Locations
Abandoned Bomb Shelter
A bomb shelter found in the northern area of the mountains. Multiple Infected have been found in glass tanks filled with formaldehyde. The Infected will remain in a quiescent state, unless removed from the tanks.
Crashed Shuttle
A crashed shuttle, with a hive of Doxasménos, along with strange artifacts containing traces of onyx and obsidian.
V.T.F. Tram station
The V.T.F tram station was used to bring V.T.F soldiers and officers from the shuttle station to and from the bunker, when they were still serving abroad. The mineshaft has been abandoned ever since the destruction of the crew.
Entities
While Gashers and Cadavers reside in 2508.1, they are not listed here, for the sake of simplicity,
The Doxasménos
The Doxasménos are hostile entities, that are noticeably bulkier and taller than the standard Gasher, and exhibit the regenerating traits of The Beast. They are incredibly strong, and their bodies produce acidic yellow blood that can easily kill (and infect) those who are exposed to it. There is no direct explanation for their regeneration, although it may have something to do with the Onyx Artifacts. Doxasménos typically do not immediately leave an area after a kill, instead lingering to look for more potential victims. Doxasménos appear to be more intelligent than other infected, only turning victims into Doxasménos only if they are deemed 'worthy'. They only kill weak humans, animals will not change into a Doxasménos and it is unclear if they can transform at all. Doxasménos cannot be killed without use of incendiary weaponry. Doxasménos are some of the only infected which show a semblance of thought, rather than acting on instinct.
Elite Doxasménos
Elite Doxasménos exhibit common behaviors and abilities found in certain Infected, such as the speed and agility of the Stabber, or the sheer strength of the Bruiser. In addition to these abilities, they also possess unique abilities unique to their Elite status, such as the ability to superheat their blood, or emit concussive blasts. Unlike the average Doxasménos, they are immune to incineration. Due to their multiple limbs, they have been theorized to have been created from multiple hosts, in an effort to create a new Titan, due to their strength and body structure.
Stabbers
Stabbers are special variations of Gashers. They lack the abdominal limbs of the latter, and are much quicker. Stabbers are created when a human produces a large amount of adrenaline before being infected, which causes an abnormal amount of motor activity in their limbs. Occasionally, Stabbers fuse with a Gasher, forming a Cluster. Stabbers run and jump much more than Gashers, and in combination with their speed they can inflict greater injury. Stabbers are in a constant state of rage, making their movement highly erratic. Stabbers will eventually transform into Doxasménos.
Injector
Injectors appear to be abnormally large, infected Emperor Scorpions. Their claws have mutated into large blades, and their tail is their main weapon. They use pack tactics, each one forcefully injecting the contagion into a dead body. At this point, the corpse convulses and rapidly mutates into either a Stabber or, more commonly, a Gasher. Additionally, Injectors can attack living victims, jumping them in groups without warning and attempting to force themselves inside the victim's mouth, where they transform the unfortunate host into a Doxasménos in a matter of hours. The Injectors are among the smaller specimens to be found, despite outclassing the Giant Weta in size.
Distorted
Distorted are the result of direct exposure to Doxasménos blood. Due to the bloods acidic composure, The resulting infected are a mass of flesh and bone, coated in coagulated venom. Distorted are capable of limited speech, but attempt to kill on sight. Usually, Distorted have no visible facial features, save for their large maw.
Alien Bruiser
Alien Bruisers, Just like their human counterparts, are heavily armored and hard to dismember. However, they now have the ability to turn into a Stabber once sustaining enough damage. Alien Bruisers give off pheromones which cause most other infected, save for the Stabber, to burst into rage. Their newfound rush into rage causes them to bleed infectious pus.
They retain most of their uninfected appearance, for reasons unknown. The leading reason is that Alien Bruisers are already dangerous with their strength, making advanced mutations obsolete.
Cluster
Clusters are made up of multiple infected, stuck together with congealed blood and sinew. The coordination of Clusters reinforces theories of a potential hive mind. Clusters are highly intelligent, but the exact extent of their cooperation with each other may depend on the individual infected. Some of the infected will start to break off from the larger mass, once the center sustains enough damage. Most of the infected will always remain dormant inside the cluster and when they are removed they will continue to expand and multiply into other Clusters.
Leviathan
Leviathans are aquatic Infected which possess segmented bodies and jointed appendages, along with a collection of tentacles and teeth. They use their gigantic maw, that is full of malformed sharp teeth of varying sizes, to feed. Once prey is spotted, the Leviathan emits a loud scream, used to disorient its prey. Leviathans appear similar to deep sea worms.
Titan
Titans were infected composed of millions of alien bodies. They appeared to have minuscule legs used for traveling, and angular drill-shaped heads for burrowing into the ground. Titans, true to their name, were very large, due to the sheer number of bodies they contain, able to span entire moons. They were effectively immune to modern weaponry, making them incredibly hard to kill. Titans were considered to be perhaps the most dangerous inhabitants of 2508.1. They are now inactive, the last remaining 4 encased in ice. Their immense size and power caused the Crimson Eden to revere them as gods. Little to no information surrounding any other abilities besides their tunneling exists, and it is unknown if they are sentient or have any type of sentience.
Chiller
Chillers are Gashers or Stabbers who have spent long amounts of time in extreme cold. Most Chillers have been outside for an extended period of time, and in such a cold their motor skills begin to deteriorate, making them slower, weaker, and less coordinated. Chillers have additional limbs growing outward from various points on their body, and their posture along with their bone structure, is drastically distorted, giving them the appearance of humanoid spiders. Chillers can still move and run at high speeds, but their movements are stiffer and slower, which can make it difficult for them to fight.
Harolds
Harolds are quite common in 2508.1, many of their homes being there. They set up shops in abandoned buildings, lit with bright blue flames. These areas can be used as temporary hideouts.
Colonies and Outposts
Crimson Eden
Status: Active
The Crimson Eden is highly militaristic with a large arsenal of weaponry to oppress infidels. These cultists apparently wish to force the entire world to become part of their worship. The Crimson Eden strictly speak Italian, ancient and modern Greek, and Latin, although usually with traces of English.
The group’s weapons are particularly deadly, with both heavy and electrical elements used in their militancy. For unknown reasons, the Infected completely ignore high-ranking members, though this is likely due to a strange, dormant strain of the virus in their body.
They believe that mankind's extinction is required for 'rebirth', an enigmatic event within their pseudo-religion, and that Humanity's time will not last long, even with catastrophic results 'that only a fool would not foresee'. Crimson Eden Cultists also feature many unusual variations in size, and sometimes have various mutations, making them even more deadly.
The Crimson Eden's inner hierarchy is populated by a number of key members who wear black robes and carry long, onyx swords, carrying the ability to spread dementia and insanity to people maimed by it.
V.T.F.
Status: Destroyed
V.T.F, also known as the Varakk Task Force, was a small faction created by the M.E.G. to explore 2508.1. One of the first explorations went horribly wrong, and on the way back the cluster's pilot in charge, Leon Rivers, was shot in the neck and died of blood loss. His body reanimated due to an Injector crawling inside the corpse's mouth. The infected corpse of Leon then attacked the rest of the team, infecting multiple and killing the rest. This was the first instance of an Injector reanimating a corpse through ingestion. A few survived, but are now a part of the Crimson Eden.
Logs
Autopsy Report
An autopsy report.
The creature crawled into the subject's mouth. Subject was immediately apprehended and tied down. The infection process began to take hold. The subject's arms are elongating, the torso somehow flaying itself, and the arms twist into sharp blades with a sharp crunch. Subject's flesh is taut and he becomes stiff. Activity in the cerebrum has subsided. The skin slowly begins graying, showing a decline in melanin production. A giant vertical wound is present in the chest. This appears to be a second mouth. Minor scoliosis is visible in the spine. Another subject was released into the chamber, and the previous subject showed instant aggression. While the second subject shot it in the head, The first subject sunk both of its blades through his torso, lifting him up, then violently stabbing him twice. The second subject begins convulsing, and growing the same blades as the first, before getting back on his feet. Neither subjects seem to acknowledge my presence.
