Level 250 is an endless desert composed of white-yellow sand.
Much of the desert is flat with the occasional dune typically rising a few metres from the ground, although some dunes can reach up to 120 metres in height. Skies are typically clear with some cloudiness. The temperature is 68-86 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, plummeting to around 29-40 during night cycles. Water is scarce in the desert, with the occasional oasis appearing before dissipating shortly after its arrival. Such events are similar to mirages, although they can be interacted with by Wanderers if they act with haste.
Mirages in the dunes are common, although unlike those of oases, they cannot be interacted with. Such reports have included those of other Wanderers, images of cacti, and those of entities from the previous levels. The temperature is frequently not enough to induce hallucinations nor severe dehydration, suggesting something else in the desert is responsible for the visions.
Day and night cycles differ from those in the The Frontrooms. Sunlight is present for between 24-30 hours, with the front and tail-end 2 hours representing dawn and dusk, with night cycles lasting 6 hours. Night cycles, however, can be quite dangerous without foresight and planning. During the night, there is a strong chance--albeit not guaranteed--that the dunes will experience heavy rainfall, deluging the lower areas of the dunes and creating the conditions for quicksand. If one becomes trapped in this quicksand, it can take two to three minutes to fully submerge if the process is not interrupted. Some have predicted that sinking underneath the sands transports Wanderers to an unknown, undocumented level of The Backrooms, although the most readily accepted definition is that the quick sands cause death.
The rainfall and the deluges cease quickly at the advent of sunrise for the next day-night cycle.
Colonies and Outposts
Summit Outpost
An outpost containing food, water, and personnel sits at the peak of an exceptionally tall sand dune, which appears sporadically. It is the only known outpost in the Level, presumably because of its positional advantage with regards to rainfall.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
An entrance in Mount Fuji 2 is found in Level 249.
An encounter with an entity in Level 265 can teleport one to this level. Wanderers may report blacking out and waking up within the same level, others will report being transported here.
Exits
An exit to Level 251 can be found when an oasis becomes visible. By reaching the water and diving in before the oasis dissipates, the Wanderer will enter this respective level.
A white door will appear in a similar manner to the oasis at dusk. If this door is found and access before the sun passes below the horizon, the Wanderer will return to Level 249.
A black door will appear in rare conditions during the night time rains. If it is found and accessed before the sun rises, the Wanderer will find themselves in Level 261.
