Level 2 is the 3rd level of the Backrooms and the last one you could feasibly start out in.

Description

Level 2 consists of millions of miles of industrial maintenance tunnels, gray floors and concrete walls adorned with locked doors containing pitch-black windows, ventilation ducts with odd noises coming from them, and pipes that contain boiling water, these pipes these pipes fluctuate in loudness, but often increase in volume to the point where the buzzing of the lights usually cannot be heard. The brightness on these lights is quite high, which lead to parts of Level 2 to reach temperatures 110°F or higher. The high temperatures can also be blamed on the the boiler water in the pipes, which contains steam with temperatures of 700ºF. All you can hear in this level is the rumbling of the machinery, the buzzing of the lights, and the boiling of water in the various pipes.

Most of the time noises in the vents can be blamed on entities moving throughout the vents (mainly Crawlers), which are beings that reside exclusively in Level 2. Other beings lurk on this level as well, such as Skin-stealers, child Facelings, Clumps, Dullers, Hounds, Smilers, and Bursters. If you come into contact with a being in this level, your only choice is to run in the opposite direction, as they become hostile on sight here. One of the beings is seen on the photo to the right, one of the lesser hostiles ones in Level 2.

Colonies and Outposts

Mothbusters:

  • Consists of a few people, presumably 6 or 7.
  • Main goal is to eliminate Deathmoths in Level 2 and Level 3.

Pied Pipers:

  • Medium sized colony with about 12 people, but there might be more.
  • Named after the fluid pipes on the walls.
  • Has a small stock of almond water from Level 10

(formerly) Guide outpost 03:

  • Once the biggest group in Level 2
  • abandoned because of large amounts of entities and no valuable resources.
  • (Formerly) 20~24 people

Leaving Level 2

Contrary to popular belief, not all of the doors on Level 2 are locked. You can go through some of them to go to Levels 3 and 4, and more rarely 534. The most consistent way is imagining the backrooms as your home, and place of birth and had been taking care of you ever since you were born. It has a very rare possibility of taking you back to your homeworld, where you can continue living your life normally. HOWEVER, it also has a much higher possibility of running you the risk of taking you back to Level 0.
