Description
Level 303 is the 304th level of the Backrooms. While it's current size is unknown, several maps have been made linking key colonies together in order to aid travelers in their journey across this level. Level 303 is an underground set of corridors lit with a yellow-green hue, containing various pieces of nonsensical signage, directions that mislead wanderers and shutters containing barely-furnished storefronts. Supplies are often found in these, and nobody has ever been seen manning the shopfronts (meaning all items inside are free to take without known consequence).
Level 303 has often been described as a particularly confusing level, with good reasoning to back up many of these claims. Using video cameras, wanderers have caught locations that lack the presence of life suddenly close themselves off, walls shifting and shutters filling themselves in with concrete at speeds of up to a single second. The reason for this is completely unknown and attempts to access these blocked off areas have been fruitless. Additionally, the large quantities of supplies that seem to restock themselves suddenly and without any sort of prompting. Additionally, several useless features have been discovered within various locations of Level 303, including powerless security cameras, monitors that display blank screens and freezers that cannot be opened through any physical means and contain nothing. A common theory is that these are simply products of the level's "generation" and were designed to serve no purpose in the slightest.
A list of common supplies found within the multitude of storefronts within Level 303 include, but are not limited to:
- Almond Water
- Granola/protein bars (black packaging with no branding)
- Batteries
- Headphones/earbuds
- Beef jerky (black, slightly transparent packaging with no branding)
- Chocolate bars (black packaging with no branding, often found in either milk or white chocolate)
- Box of Muffins, Cookies and Candies (comes in packages of 6 each, brandless packaging)
- Roasted almonds (comes in packs of 12, brandless black packaging)
- Other assorted items (pens, paper, deodorant)
- Medical items (specifics vary)
As such, Level 303 is often recommended for wanderers looking to resupply, as there is an abundance of these specific stores across Level 303.
Recently areas were discovered that had Among Us characters drawn all over the walls. This is believed to be the work of a wanderer or some unknown group. However, nobody has ever returned from an area in which Among Us drawings are present, so it is recommended to stay away from areas with Among Us drawings on the walls. There has been one report of a M.E.G. explorer entering an Among Us area and finding a dead end with the word "SUS " written on it in what appears to be a black Expo marker. After turning around, the wanderer ended up in Level ! and never returned.
One of the Among Us characters drawn on a wall. The photographer was never found.
Entities
Entities are fairly uncommon in Level 303, but those that are present are often unfriendly. While most Backrooms-wide entities lack presence in Level 303, this level contains some native entities that wanderers may wish to look out for.
Misdirectors
While lacking a physical form, Misdirectors are more of a phenomenon that occurs with any maps built into Level 303. Handheld and hand-drawn maps seem to be unaffected, but the various subway-like maps present on the walls of Level 303 are changed via Misdirectors in order to lead wanderers towards loops and dead ends.
Man 'o War
Lanky, purple-grey humanoids lacking arms and visible sensory organs, the Man 'o War will wander the alleyways of Level 303 aimlessly, using the sound of the lights overhead in order to navigate the surroundings. They will become disoriented if a wanderer bumps into and/or assaults them, and will attempt to latch onto their skin using barbed, microscopic fibers. Succeeding will lead to the Man 'o War tearing the skin sideways, causing substantial pain and scarring should the unlucky wanderer triumph over this entity.
Shutterbugs
Apex predators native to Level 303 which use an extremely heightened sense of hearing in order to detect the sounds of shutters opening (hence their name). It is possible to mislead them by throwing objects away from the current location you are in, however a less riskier course of action is to simply close the shutters and stay out of sight. Shutterbugs, like the Man 'o Wars, lack arms, however make up for this disadvantage with mouths containing sharp hooked teeth that will deal often lethal amounts of damage to flesh and muscle.
Cyclops
One-eyed beings that are almost completely covered in suction cup-like tendrils that will latch onto and climb across surfaces they find. While they do not directly attack wanderers, getting too close may result in the Cyclops accidentally latching onto exposed skin and causing minor bleeding.
Colonies/Settlements
There are currently 6 major colonies present in Level 303, but smaller ones have yet to be properly documented.
Eki Plaza
- 47 confirmed residents
- Friendly
- Active marketplace, open to trade
- Named after one of many signs nearby, Eki Plaza is one of few places where a makeshift soundproofing system has been created through pillows, allowing shutters to be opened and closed without fear of Shutterbug attacks.
Lockjaw Alley
- 20-30 approximate residents
- Neutral, does not accept new residents
- Open to trade with restrictions
- Lockjaw Alley is revered for being located inside an unnaturally straight path containing several shutters on either wall. The residents are neither friendly nor hostile, preferring to keep to themselves.
Crate Lane
- 36 confirmed residents
- Friendly, open to new residents
- Open to some trade
- A "residential" colony that has successfully repurposed many of it's shops into housing for it's residents. With this, it only trades in small goods and building supplies, for storage space is quite limited.
Spearhead Way
- 10-15 approximate residents
- Hostile
- Not open to trade in the slightest
- Driven to desperation from their imprisonment in the Backrooms, these nasty folk have taken refuge in Level 303 and will ransack and attack anyone who treads into their territory. Not many people call their colony home due to this.
Impostors
- 7 confirmed residents
- Usually neutral, but they will kill anyone who mentions Level 9
- Live in one of the Among Us sections
Freegate Superstore
- 10-15 approximate residents
- Friendly, as they accept new wanderers
- Open to trade
- Named after one of the founders, Johnson Freegate
- A residential colony in 3-5 stores: converted the stores into residential areas
Tryhard Tower
- 20-26 residents
- Friendly
- Has internet access to the frontrooms, though they only use it to play Among Us
- All members are expert at playing Among Us
- Their base is a tower, hence the name of the colony
- Allies with the Impostors
- Not open to trade
