Description

Level 338, colloquially known by wanderers as "Visions of Annie", is a massive although finite space of the Backrooms, spanning across roughly three thousand miles of space (making it relatively small compared to many levels.) Level 338 is made of a network of long, winding hallways, with the floor being made of dark hardwood, the walls being made of a pale plaster, and the much of the wall composed of windows framed by large curtains. There is nothing outside of these windows, however, instead the outside is replaced by a dim light. A key feature of the level is the heavy, reddish pink tint that permeates the air and the level itself, with every object being a shade of red to the naked eye.

The Foyer

The area known as the Foyer is the hub of this level, where most people will end up upon entering the level. The foyer itself is a large, hexagonal room, the composition of the floor and walls still the same as the rest of the level. On each side of the room, large windows framed by billowing curtains brighten the room, although said light is still just as red as the tint anywhere else. Multiple couches and chairs line the walls, made of a worn, leathery material, and in the center of the room, there is a circular table. A paper rests on this table, a poem, titled "Visions of Annie" at the top, although the text below is simply... unreadable. It appears as a language that all are unfamiliar with. The paper itself is unable to be moved by any kind of force, as well as being impervious to any kind of damage.

The Network

The network of hallways that make up most of the rest of Level 338 vary wildly in volume and shape, with some being nearly cavernous and others requiring one to squeeze through them. However, the same dark hardwood, pale plaster, and billowing curtains with large windows makes up the structure of the hallways, and the reddish pink tint permeates all throughout. Roughly three thousand miles of the Network is thought to exist, with much of it having already been traversed by wanderers, primarily M.E.G.

The Source

At the speculated center of level 338, exists the Source. A cavernous, spherical chamber, in the center is a singular human figure, grossly distorted and disfigured, affixed to the ceiling of the chamber by massive rods of flesh. It is speculated that this humanoid figure may have actually been a wanderer once itself, somehow having created the level, possibly unknowingly. In the left hand of the entity, wanderers have found a singular, open golden locket, with what looks like the picture of a woman in it. Inscribed on the bottom of the locket, the word "Annie" is scrawled into the gold. It is worth noting that the effect of 338 is incredibly strong within the chamber.

The Red Remembrance

One of the most dangerous aspects of Level 338 is a psychological effect, known as the "Red Remembrance", that slowly afflicts every individuals mind over time. One will begin to hear quiet voices in the back of their mind, reminiscent of that of a close friend, and they may begin to hallucinate visions of their loved ones or colleagues. Once one has fallen too far into the Red Remembrance, the first sign of their infection is that their skin will slowly become a deep, crimson red, this ailment typically beginning just over the heart. Their limbs will begin to slowly extend to longer proportions, as will their fingers, and they will quickly grow malnourished and gaunt. At this point, their mind has completely fragmented, lost to the insanity of the Red Remembrance, and they will spend their days wandering the halls of Level 338, killing anything they can get their hands on.

Colonies and Outposts

As of currently, there are no outposts or colonies within Level 338, due to the Red Remembrance effect. However, several small, failed outposts have been located across the Level, belonging to several long dead groups. They are listed below

Falboro-

Undeniably the largest of the former outposts, the ruins of Falboro span across roughly a half mile, estimated to been home to at least 18 individuals. The development and sophistication of the ruins would speculate that, somehow, the former colonists were somehow able to slow down or even stave off the effects of the Red Remembrance, although eventually it appeared that they succumbed or were attacked.

The Waybeacon

A strange outpost, the Waybeacon appears to have been more of a checkpoint than a true settlement, consisting of several shacks and a string of lights running along the walls. Most likely, this station was related to Falboro. An estimated three people were thought to have resided here permanently.

The Journal Point

This is not an outpost at all, instead a significant location. Consisting of a sleeping bag, two boxes, and a lantern, this point would simply appear to be a failed rest-stop at first glance, however, what sets it apart is the journal that lies open on the crate. Similar to the sheets of paper in the Foyer, this journal is unable to be read, as well as being immune to damage. However, attempting to read the journal or observing it is said to give people an uneasy feeling of being watched, as well as speeding up the effects of the Red Remembrance.

Entities

The primary entities of Level 338 are the red humanoids that have succumbed to the Red Remembrance, known as "Red Walkers" to many wanderers, although some salvaged information from the former colonies refer to them as the "Forebearers". Standing at around 4.5 meters tall, they appear to be incredibly malnourished, and possess highly elongated limbs with long fingers. Their skin is dark crimson color, and their eyes appear to be white and vacant.

They are highly aggressive.

The only other observed entities within the level are the Wretches, and occasional reports of Smilers.

Entrances and Exits

To enter Level 338, one either needs to enter an umarked door on Level 109.

Accidentally (It must be an accident) stumble and noclip through a wall on Level 6.

Or enter a certain door of a certain building on Level 11.

To exit Level 338, one can open a window and leave, which presumably takes them to Level 3008.1

They can noclip through a wall next to the Journal Point, to get to Level 7.

Or they can touch the locket in the entities hand in the center of the level, which will take them to any random Safe-class level.
