Level 37.1 is a sublevel of Level 37.
Description
Level 37.1 is often seen as an extension of its main level, Level 37. It shares the magnitude of the main pool complex, with haphazardly separated rooms and intricate architecture, more often than not presenting chaotic patterns throughout the level. While the design remains constant, every room contains a different detail or ostensible purpose, contrasting with others. While some sections barely have enough water to be considered a pool, others are overly submerged, seeming to have flooded completely, with the deepest recorded areas reaching almost 40 meters deep.
Navigation through the level is starkly different from that of Level 37; lighting is very scarce, with sparse openings in the walls emitting a poor, dim light — emanating from an unknown source — barely enough for one to reliably observe their surroundings. Some areas lack light completely, making safe exploration virtually impossible due to the inherent safety risks. Deeper submerged areas may not contain direct exits from the water, forcing wanderers to swim back out in the dark, cold waters to find a way out, possibly running the risk of drowning. The connections between rooms can vary, most in the form of small, half-submerged tunnels that one must crawl or swim through in order to traverse. The water of the level has a murky, deep green-blue tone, intensified by the leaden darkness and contrasting with the superficial structure of the level.
Unlike its main counterpart, the tiling present throughout Level 37.1 starkly varies; some sections are comprised of the typical porcelain-white tiles, whilst others contain more abnormally-shaped, off-colored tiles. In addition, the tiles making up the surfaces of Level 37.1 do not share the same anomalously damage-resistant properties seen in Level 37, possibly serving as the reason for the level's advanced state of disrepair. The level's complete lack of maintenance gives it an ominous aspect — filthy grouts, destroyed tiles, and poorly-built structures are some of the most common features of Level 37.1, directly opposing the perfection of the Poolrooms. In addition, the temperature of the water is constantly frigid, remaining around an algid 17-21° Celsius in most sections, with the deeper, more isolated areas reaching even colder temperatures. Along with this, the level's air is dry and stale, with a notably unpleasant scent throughout.
The structure of the level changes quickly and haphazardly, resulting in a twisted nonlinear space. The usage of communications devices such as audio recorders and live video equipment yield no decipherable result upon examination, which is thought to result from the level's warping, non-Euclidean nature. Due to this, consistent navigation and localization of the level has proven exceptionally difficult, and has since been deemed improbable.
Colonies and Outposts
Due to the nature and magnitude of Level 37.1, the existence of colonies and outposts is considered infeasible.
Entities
Level 37.1, possibly due to its magnitude, does not present many entities in its surroundings, with the only two confirmed being the Facelings and the Hydrolitis Plague, a deadly disease that lurks around untreated bodies of water.
The Hydrolitis Plague
The Hydrolitis Plague, as seen in other levels throughout the Backrooms, is a bacterium commonly found in stagnant, untreated bodies of water, such as within abandoned pools. In the case of Level 37.1, it is aggravated as a consequence of the lack of chlorine, seen by the deep green hue of the water. The disease is much more prevalent in the water of Level 37.1 as compared to its main counterpart, with most submerged areas carrying traces of the bacterium. As airborne contamination is unlikely due to the tight separation of each section, the most likely case is by the indirect exposure to contaminated water. Due to this, it is advised to avoid all contact with the water of the level, only traversing through it when absolutely necessary, avoiding oral consumption at all costs.
Attached Information
As Level 37 was discovered, it was described as having a pristine, minimally-designed nature, giving a calming sensation to those that wander through it. Suddenly, the constant fear of wandering through an infinite dimension you've never seen before is able to take a rest, as if in a dream. The eeriness still remains, sure, but everything is so homogenous that the reoccurring restlessness calms itself; the same thing cannot be said for this dingy edifice. Demolished walls, broken tiles, sections missing with no feasible explanation, and inhumane conditions are some of the main traits one will notice if they ever end up here.
When one goes through the dark spaces in the Poolrooms, they would never expect where they could find themselves next. The flawless atmosphere begins to fade. The uniformity of the white tiles all around, resembling the mono-yellow madness from the genesis, cannot be seen anymore. The water begins to get noticeably colder, and the air drier. The underlying ugliness is revealed. Level 37.1 is supposed to be the contrast between sublimity and mediocrity. When a flawless vase breaks, it will be more impactful than when it was intact. A dismantled zone will have more influence than an undamaged one. That is The Deep End. May all who unfortunately end up in this location find peace.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
- Going through the darker, colder areas of Level 37 may lead one to here.
- The pool in Level 58 has the possibility of no-clipping directly to Level 37.1.
Exits
- Occasional parts where the water waves start to become stronger may lead to Recollections.
- Certain parts of the level where the sources of light are stronger can redirect back to the original entrance level.
- Will lead you to The Deep End when you go to a cave entrance.
