40404040404 is a level in the backrooms. When all else fails, you get transported here. It runs parallel to what fears you experience in the The Frontrooms, only twisted.
Description
Old cam footage of a playground, captured by a child who had Megalophobia.
Low-resolution footage recording a tall lady with pale skin from a wanderer with reported Sanguivoriphobia. (Res. Evil 8)
It is a area parallel to the fears you experience in the The Frontrooms, only twisted. It is hard to explain this place, if you can so at all, as everyone experiences it differently sort of like a twisted nightmare. If there were entities at your previous level, if you shown signs of fear towards them, they will be seen here quite often so it's completely up to you wether it is unsafe or not. Your biggest fear stalks you and walks towards you slowly. Wether it is actually dangerous or not is completely up to what you feared. Due to the nature of this level, it was given the name by the researchers. 404 is a HTML code for 'Not Found'. You get transported to here when there is nowhere else to go.
Your fears don't necessarily have to exist in real life. It can be from video games or completely made up.
Entrances and exits
Entrances:
- Falling asleep on any level will teleport here unless that level specifically has any other destination.
- Running unrecognized code on any devices in any level could teleport you here if the device is not up to date.
- Penetrating The Void Core.
Еxits:
- You can only truly exit this level and therefore the backrooms by defeating your fear. Successfully doing so will set you free to The Frontrooms.
- If you choose not to defeat your fear and live here for eternity, that is fine, but being captured by your fear will teleport you to the negative version of your last level (e.g. Level -6 if you were previously on Level 6. There is a small chance you will be transported into a positive, altered level of your previous level (e.g. Level 2.4 if you were previously on Level 2.) If you got here from The Void Core you will be transported back to there.
- Attempting to exit this level in any other way (e.g. by noclipping) will transport you to The Void. There have been few reports of people getting transported to Level !.
- Getting mapophobia will lead to The Maprooms.
