Shown here is one of the side walls in the never-ending expanse of Level 40.
Level 40 is an unconfirmed level of the Backrooms. Level 40 resembles a 90's video rental store about to close, and is believed to be infinite. The shelves are half-empty, and all of the dvd's on the shelves are low-budget rip-offs. Every once in awhile you may come across a television or two hanging from the ceiling or on the floor. These tv's are on, but they only show static. There are also many randomly scattered wooden doors in Level 40, but all of them (except for one) are locked. The only known picture of Level 40 is shown on the side. The only known entities in Level 40 are the Employees. Within Level 40 there are two notable locations, should you be lucky enough to find them:
- The Employees Only Section
- The Revolving Doors
Some DVDs found in the store.
The Employees Only Section
Somewhere in Level 40 you may come across a single wooden door with a sign that reads: "Employees Only." If you go through this door you can be taken to Level 40.1, Level 0, and in some rare cases Level 1.
The Revolving Doors
The Revolving Doors of Level 40 are only a rumor. But according to hearsay, The Revolving Doors is a portal not directly connected to Level 40. However, one of its entrances/exits does reside here. For whatever reason it may be, the nature of The Revolving Doors is as such:
"If someone from a small town ends up in Level 40, goes past The Revolving Doors, they will come out in Level 10."
The rare DVDs found in the store
"If someone from a medium suburb ends up in Level 40, goes past The Revolving Doors, they will come out in Level 9."
"If someone from a big city ends up in Level 40, goes past The Revolving Doors, they will come out in Level 11."
In Levels 9 and 11 The Revolving Doors will stay where they are after one has gone through them, granting you access back to Level 40, but things will only appear that way for whoever goes through The Revolving Doors coming from Level 40 to begin with. In Level 10 however, The Revolving Doors will cease to exist after you exit them.
Entrance/Exit from Level 40
The only known possible entrances to Level 40 are the locked door in The Hub, No-clipping into the Vending machine in the Elevator Alcove on Level 598, going through a door of beads labelled DVD's on The End, or going through a painting of Level 40 in Level 29. Other entrances however, are highly likely to exist. The only known possible exits from Level 40 are The Employees Only Section and The Revolving Doors.
