Level 416, informally known as "Terra Sequoia" or simply "The Redwoods," is a sprawling, diverse redwood forest. The level is consistently drenched by a thick fog that conceals the tops of the trees, creating the illusion that they extend infinitely, yet this is not the case. The level is brimful with varied vegetation populating the ground, providing a lush ambiance. A feeling of mist suffuses the surrounding atmosphere, inciting a calm feeling in wanderers. Level 416's temperature averages at -3.5°C (25.7 °F). Notwithstanding the temperature, snow or ice is absent from the level.
As one lingers on Level 416 for roughly five to eight hours, a strong petrichor — the infamous aroma of rainfall — gradually imbues the forest, emanating from the ground. This aroma invokes a sensation of nostalgia and reminiscence among wanderers. Occasionally, chirps of mourning doves fill the air, further accelerating this nostalgic feel. However, rain and birds are nonexistent, the respective causes of these nostalgic senses. These senses fade away after 20 to 36 hours, although they may rarely and spontaneously re-present after days spent in the level.
Dirt paths and walkways line the forests. These paths have wooden signs displaying texts pointing to locations. The text displayed on one sign may differ between wanderers, often tailoring itself to a wanderer's mother tongue, although sometimes being gibberish. Decorative rocks, wooden fences, and rarely lampposts drape the dirt walkways. In addition to dirt paths, highways sprawl across Level 416's expanses, sporting intact surfaces and metal guardrails. Roads have metal signs sharing a similar linguistic phenomenon with the wooden signs. Roads and pathways pass through bridges and tunnels, including long arch bridges and tunnels cutting through trees.
One may encounter a car parked alongside a highway, which is openable without a key and perfectly drivable. These automobiles house various objects, including random building supplies, camping gear, spare car parts, and melee weapons. Cars don't require any energy source to operate, nor do they break down or incur engine failures. When one drives a vehicle on a highway, the radio will play nostalgic music, from dreamcore-themed music to famous songs from the driver's adolescence era. Radios are also usable for communication with parties at other levels or playing any music track the driver or passenger wishes.
Throughout Level 416, one may encounter various structures, ranging from shaped rock formations, fallen trees, small canyons, minor caves, and lakes. Artificial structures include wooden sheds, houses, and large deforested zones, showing tree stumps, log piles, and various deforestation paraphernalia. Level 416's trees are fire-resistant and near-indestructible, rendering said equipment unsuitable. However, fallen trees and logs are permeable. Attempting to destroy trees will fail any used equipment. It is suitable for wanderers to reside within houses, as they provide the essential elements for habitation.
Several artificial objects lay on the level's surface, including cardboard boxes containing various items, rubber tires, wooden planks, varying rubbish, and small, palm-sized concrete pieces. Beneficial objects range from Almond Water, MREs, and first-aid kits, uncommon throughout Level 416. Objects are more common in manmade structures, including car trunks, house storage zones, and sheds. An increase in random objects may lead one to a road or house. In addition, several varieties of Backshrooms are also prevalent.
As one ventures into Level 416's far-flung zones, the fog will dissipate, petrichor and bird sounds will tone down, electronics begin malfunctioning, and forest density will decrease, resulting in their arrival to a desolate, rough, and rocky grassland. Shortly after, one will encounter an abrupt, unending cliff, giving way to a greyish void, blending with the sky. Individuals who visit the cliffs are accompanied by waves of serenity and epiphanies reminding them that they are of minuscule importance — and they may begin to meditate — looking out onto the voids beyond.
Not many entities populate Level 416, and the few include Smilers and Clumps lurking in dark caves, Lighters wandering about throughout forests, rarely-seen Hounds traveling through the level or hiding within vegetation, and Facelings seldom occupying some homes.
Base Paderborn is a Navigators of Anomalous Exploration and Obscure Spaces settlement on Level 416. It is a mining base who gathers minerals from caves, rock formations, and lakebeds. They are the primary source of the group's mineral resources. Camping sites surround the base to secure territory and resources. The base boasts fifty-eight residents and is sequestered to outsiders, although guards will provide feasible exit methods out of the level.
Founded in November of 2010, Base Chevrolet is an Auto Nexus settlement and is Level 416's most prominent and earliest known human occupation. The settlement spans a close collection of houses and a nearby deforested region where members harvest its rich wood supply. Unlike other Auto Nexus branches, residents are hospitable and generous, a tactic to improve reputation and recruit new members. An education facility indoctrinates Auto Nexus propaganda to help assimilate recruited members. Base Chevrolet boasts a steady population of 302 residents and trades with allies.
- Jumping into a pile of leaves in Level 455 sends one here;
- Wandering far enough to the south in Level 415 will cause the snow to gradually disappear, eventually leading one here;
- No-clipping into a log in Level 105 sends one here;
- Falling asleep in Level 102 sends one here;
- A tattered wooden door in Level 330 will lead to a staircase, which one must walk for three to five minutes to enter this level.
- The emergency exit at the back of Level 461's visitors' center has a 67% chance to lead here during the Clear Skies event.
- A road tunnel may send one to Level 50;
- One may note a sudden bright light coming from the east. Turning to face this light will suddenly transport one to Level 83;
- No-clipping through shattered glass sends one to Level 352;
- Rarely, no-clipping in a pathway might send one to Level 500;
- No-clipping in a rare purple tree may send one to Level 626.
- Occasional signs can be found next to turnoffs from the main boardwalk. They read "Still Mountain State Park -- X miles", where X has been reported to be anywhere from 3 to 15. Following the turnoff for the specified number of miles will lead to a dead end. Going beyond the dead end into the forest will result in one winding up in the campground of Level 461.
