Level 443556 is the 443557th level of the Backrooms

Level 443556: "The Gauntlet Rooms"

Level 443556 is a somewhat unique level, as its contents are dependent on which levels you've previously entered. It consists of a series of 50 meter by 50 meter rooms with wooden doors separating them, each of which corresponding to a level you've previously entered; containing a mixture of entities and/or environmental hazards from said level. At the end of the gauntlet, there's a final room containing a small removable manhole with a ladder beneath it, taking you to Level 39991.

However, despite the room's nature, there are a few key recurring elements that seem to appear no matter what.

Recurring Elements

Beginning Room

Before entering the gauntlet, you'll see a dark room with a concrete floor and a spotlight coming from an unknown source. If you wander around for long enough, you'll find a small square-shaped hole in the ground, allowing you to enter the gauntlet. It isn't known how large this room is, although it is estimated to be roughly 8,000 km wide in all direction.

Empty Rooms

Every 5-10 rooms, you'll see a room that is entirely empty. White walls, flat terrain, no entities, nothing.

The Mirror Room

After going through ~50 rooms, you'll entered a dimly lit maze filled with mirrors. You may see several different entities while traversing the maze, but these are all actually the same entity, Cognitites. Cognitites don't exactly have a physical form on their own, but are the manifestation of your deepest fears. As of now, it is unclear whether or not they even exist. Since the Mirror Room can easily take a tole on your sanity, it's entirely possible that these entities are merely a figment of the imagination.

Screamer Rooms

A few of the rooms will be the same as any other standard room, except for a constant screeching that's impossible to get rid off, and only disappears once you exit the room. It is currently unknown what causes the screeching.

Repeats / Missing Rooms

Simply put, occasionally some rooms will be repeated, or some levels you've entered just won't have a corresponding room.

Level 0 Rifts

In certain rooms, you can see what appears to be a cut-out of Level 0. You can't enter it, and you can occasionally see Wanderers and entities appearing, moving across, and disappearing.

Final Room

As previously mentioned, after going through the entire gauntlet, you'll enter a room containing a small removable manhole with a ladder beneath it. This ladder will take you down to Level 39991.

Room Naming

Rooms are simply named after the level they correspond to, with "Gauntlet-" attached to the start. For example, a room that replicates Level 0 would be known as "Gauntlet-0".

As for the non-standard rooms:

  • The Mirror Room is known as "Gauntlet-Mirror".
  • Repeated rooms use the same name as the original.
  • Screamer rooms have an S added to the end of the name (for example, "Gauntlet-0S").
  • Empty Rooms are all named "Gauntlet-Empty" with a number added to the end to indicate the order of empty rooms (for example, "Gauntlet-Empty 4").

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of this level, these can't be established here. You can occasionally see members of colonies through the Level 0 Rifts, but there seems to be no way to communicate or travel through them.
