The Extraterrestrial Forest
Level 45 is the 46th level of the Backrooms.
Description
The Outdoors
Level 45's outdoors consist of a never-ending, uniquely fashioned forest with convenient terrain attributed to tall trees, bodies of water, and diverse regions. The ambiance is coated in a blue mist through and beyond bounds, and a small, quiet breeze can be felt breathing over the entire vast area. Level 45 barely provides an active weather cycle for the most part, nor does it have a rhythm for daylight, as the atmosphere remains in a period of darkness and the surroundings are topped by a timeless hazy fog; conditions stay naturally at a habitable and balanced degree, suitable for life forms to inhabit disregarding the treacherous factors Level 45 acquires. Random doors can be found in areas that are cold.
The landscape in Level 45 has some unstable components and elements that are troubling to consider adjusting; suddenly, trees can tumble down fiercely if one is not alert enough. Trees also carry an abnormal height despite their puny width, and a good theory, perhaps, as to why the trees fall. The wood from these trees is a special sort from typical wood across any level in the Backrooms, ignoring anomalous and secret levels. The tree materials are comprised of a softwood similar to pine and vary in tints of grey and a pale dingy blue color, additionally involving an abundant amount of blunt splinters but can still and may provoke pain during physical contact with an individual touching it.
There is an anomaly that exists only within Level 45 and other similar-looking levels — mainly forest levels — in which the concentration of the trees simultaneously increases. This designates that the trees close in on themselves as if they are sentient entities capable of motion. The circumstance of this event remains undetermined; the materialization of this event increases in probability as one advances deeper into the level. The distance, similar to its prospect, is unknown; it is estimated that the approximate length one has to traverse before succumbing to this anomaly is 100 to 500 miles. Death due to suffocation caused by this anomaly is common; it is highly advised to not proceed to venture deep into the level unless there is a good reason to.
There is an exclusive type of plant from this level that is edible called Neonberries. As the name suggests, these are conventional and standard berries many people can remember, but are subsumed by the self-explanatory gas called neon and therefore emit a bright glow regardless of the fleshy structure. Neonberries' traits are similar to Neon Water's as well; individual colors can produce a specific energy when the food is consumed, where red neonberries are responsible for increasing blood flow, turquoise ones induce a sensation of relief and relaxation, and yellow can either increase the sharpness of anyone's vision while wearing off for a while or make the person that ingested the food's brain doze off and have tough trouble remembering for a median period of time. The colors for Neonberries that should be avoided are purple and green, whereas purple's conditions can inflict psychological torment for a long duration, and green will impose threatening and physical symptoms (strep throat, vomiting, asthma, diarrhea, inflammation) that eventually wear off but for a long and egregious span.
As for their contingent on regarding a special fluid substance; Neon Water, providing a luminous shine and a reassuring view to the eye. Neon Water is an unusual liquid safe to consume, but can also preserve a warming passion and ease muscles that have been tense ahead of time. This element is peculiar for renovating sensitivity when ingested, responsible for senses such as smell, perception, visual acuity, and mentality. Nevertheless, death due to overdose of Neon Water is quite common. Neon Water particularly contains an unknown chemical which if consumed in high doses will cause severe paralysis and poisoning (3 liters is the best unit for drinking Neon Water daily). Albeit, touching or submerging oneself into physical contact with it does not induce injurious conditions.
The Underground
Level 45's underground area is comprised of a single expansive cave system. It is not dictated in any particular formation, its geometry is thoroughly different from the Frontrooms, it is simply impossible for the dissolution of limestone to form such cave; unnaturally smooth texture of some regions and structure-like; formations inordinately supported by thin substructures without collapsing; an expansive region possessing the surface to that of a small planet; and peculiarly deep pitfalls and tunnels either going further into the underground or are entrances to the cave itself.
Many sufficient plants occupy the upper layers of caves providing unique and incomprehensible life forms, the most notable factor of this relation is the common sightings of bright blue neon mushrooms that managed to thrive and flourish throughout the higher heights of the caves. It's innermost for discerning out discrepancies and differences from the approval of the bright lights scattered roughly across the open giant spaces within potholes. The support of the luminous and miniscule pockets of lights radiate from the translucent organisms Glow Larvae. One can describe the caves upon entering encompassing as cold, moist, icy, and humid.
A brand crystal implanted within the subterranean of Level 45 is merely worth over the price of $50,000 (U.S.D - United States Dollars) compared to the year 2020's global economy. This crystal is called Pictonite; the forename derived after the hexidecimal color "Picton," correlating to a light blue color in equivalence of the neon gemstones bright pigment. Before the official name 'Pictonite' the wanderers who came through this level called it "Luminite". The molten pictonite is called "Liquinite" and the aqueous version of Liquinite is called "Luminum". The density of this diaphanous stone is eminently inconsequential and is mainly compressed with air for the neon gas it contains to travel freely; without this certain element, the evident ornament itself wouldn't be a hefty value for discussions and marketing purposes. The nobility of Pictonite is an extravagant evaluation originating with the inferior depths it is most universal in; the deeper and volatile environments often populated by hazardous entities are a more commonplace for contributing to this jewel, making it highly advised to equip protection before searching for these minerals, since in-fact they have nearly the greatest odds of growing in natural spaces rather than physically mining for an outcome.
Additional Information
Miraculously, I have seemed to outrun the wretched beast that inhabits these inscruitable caves. I am currently writing this note inside of a tiny cavity with no escape routes or hiding spots to protect me, as the creature is perhaps searching for me at this rate. I hope I get to see the dark night and blue sky once again, and I hope that I have the resolve to keep this up and linger my patience long enough.
This creature. I do not have enough knowledge of it, and how foolish for me to step into the territory without the wisdom of its presence. It is something tall, with proportions like humans. The empty flesh a brain cannot comprehend and would never want to experience the horrific visual exposure from it ever again. The dissatisfying and selfish aroma emanating out of it, an unforgivable and never-before scent ever sophisticated and imagined beyond the capability of the brain can fathom. I refuse to call this thing a humanoid, it is not a mortal and will never regain good morals. It knows we're clear of its intentions, and it will do whatever it takes to persevere and achieve its mission.
My ignorance was my downfall, for I haven't considered looking deeper information about this being. I should have been cautious. I should have came in prepared against the odds of danger. I underestimated the proximity and what boundaries I had to respect. I am neglectful. Once a optimistic, was now a pessimist. I contemplate whether or not it was my fault, was it me that caused this down-spiral? I am not certain.
Time is short, and I may not be able to make it. I am waiting for death to approach, but it is impending super slowly. I am doomed. It is my impending doom.
By the time I least expect it I am sure my face will be pried out of me and my muscles exposed to the burning reaction. God is making me sulk in for my consequences before I receive my punishment. I am on the edge of a metamorphosis, the scary fact that I am self-aware about what tragedy is coming to me, and maybe if I do transform into the one thing I hate to become I will never know what I was like, and I will never know what I was experiencing. I was hit with the sense of reality.
I yearn to escape this hellhole soon, and it is now or never. If I ever get to muster up the courage and free myself blindly without being cautious of my surroundings, will I really make it out alive? Well, culturally, it is worth taking a shot. Time is ticking, and the chances are getting slimmer. My paranoia will drain my sanity quicker the longer I keep it up. I should perhaps check if I am safe from the vicinity of danger. Maybe a peek wouldn't hurt, would it?
Entities
The majority of entities that inhabit this level casually reside in Level 45's caves for most of their time. These include Smilers, Hounds, Deathmoths, Clumps, and the Hydrolitis Plague. Regardless, multiple level-exclusive entities had been discovered to wander/inhabit the level. These entities are mostly native to the level itself, however, some or even a few are not.
Strands are a level exclusive entity that inhabit the outdoors of Level 45, with their appearance identical to a cloudy wisp and a bright blue aura flowing out of them. Previously classified as non-entity, Strands were thought to be a mere anomaly upon the discovery of the level, however, following multiple further investigations and analysis had resulted in the confirmation of the respective anomaly to be an entity and not just an anomaly.
These creatures have a tendency to follow wanderers and are very passive, except they have trouble communicating from the lack of their mental capacity, but the sound these organisms produce are identical to a high pitched voice from a human. The way these creatures will stop following an individual is if the person or themselves get bored, or the person walks into a hostile environment, especially caves. Strands will not indeed pursue advance towards the caves due to the sheer danger and harmful fluctuation and cannot guard their wanderer, they wait for the wanderer to return for the opportunity to tail on their person again in hopes that the individual perhaps didn't pass away, they may also lose their attention and wander off for themselves or fortunately get distracted by another wanderer and instead would follow their new partner.
Strands will warn wanderers of a nearby threat by making a loud yelping noise without the knowledge of physically navigating before acknowledging the presence of danger, they will also guard the outer bounds of the area where the threat is located and may try to block a wanderer from progressing there.
This entity's neutral behavior is very peaceful and barely chooses to engage fighting. A humorous method to get a Strands to react is by throwing an object at them while it goes through them. This isn't confirmed if this is how Strands play or if they feel threatened to a minor degree, but in retaliation it will cutely throw back the object that their owner threw at them with originally. If their wanderer is exposed to danger by a hostile entity, it will block between line of sight from both the wanderer and the predator, and unfortunately considering the entity is only a floating gas, it will be an ineffective strategy since they have no other liable capabilities. When their wanderer encounters another, the Strand that met with the person first will not have any thoughts about abandoning their owner and will remain by their partners side, unless their owner gets unfortunately killed or enters a dangerous environment then it will reconsider following the wanderer they met before and trace their path searching for their new owner.
Cerberus is a mysterious singular entity that roams and watches over the outer boundaries of Level 45, and it's a piece of information that doesn't have many confirmed factors about its existence as it is hardly ever spotted amongst travelers; a legend with proof of its existence, but roughly any detail given.
Cerberus appears to be a creature attached from the roots of nearby trees wherever he moves in the silhouette of a lanky humanoid figure with a crown of its own. The roots from the nearby trees that are intertwined and connected to the creature will snap if it eventually reaches out of certain boundaries, as it gets closer to more trees their roots will also branch outwards and merge with the entity.
Cerberus holds the ability to manipulate fire from the source of their hands, it only uses this ability when it feels threatened or becomes in an aggressive state of mind; the fire becomes a slow projectile and will launch from the force of the owners hand, burning anything in its radius when it comes in indirect contact with, as for direct contact it will obliterate the range with a singed hole. It doesn't have a voice as well. There is vague information circulating around Cerberus because its only been a tradition from wanderers who were unfortunate to witness it. However, it is distinct that it's behavior is aggressive and it will do anything to seek for its prey, disregarding the minimum resolve it has as it will get worn out from giving chase due to its miraculously low speed.
Drastic measures were made in attempt to hunt down the beast, all grievously were unsuccessful with not enough analysis and conclusions for their battles. The only piece of evidence that found this operation ineffective was when a member of the M.E.G. discovered a sizzled and severed hand buried underneath a stack of leaves nearby the coordinates of the set battle. It is heavily inhibited to stay in the premises of Cerberus as most unlucky people who met the fate of its unity have never been reported to return survived.
Glow Larvae, otherwise dubbed as "The Lights of the Caves," are siphonophore-like creatures possessing bioluminescent gas and are another level-exclusive entity for Level 45. There exists multiple instances of the Glow Larvae appearing in other levels, mainly Level 8 and other levels possessing an appearance of a cave system, however, most lack sufficient evidence/proof.
From its self-explanatory name, Glow Larvae are miniscule blobs that inhabit crystalline caves and live off of absorbing the moist and damp liquid from the environment. Their organs have a light bright and turquoise shine from the neon gas, this reason it can be visible is because these creatures don't have normal bodies and are translucent similar to jellyfish. The glow from their bodies can demonstrate their energy; during when they are alert and active their gasses will succumb to an excited state and therefore more of the molecules will progress more vigorously.
Fortunately Glow Larvae do not have a trend to carry any parasites and bacterial diseases, but can be a risk due to their translucent body structure and being easy to manipulate for germs to tunnel through. Glow Larvae prefer to dwell on the ceilings of caves more than the ground, the reason is because the floor's waters in caves collect more polluted chloride and would morally choose to consume the water seeping through holes from the ceiling. Most of Glow Larvae have a shorter life span and proceed to lay sticky eggs that glue to the ceiling, and it is why a few of the larvae which are older can be found on the ground living their last moments.
Due to their miniature size, Glow Larvae are incapable of posing a serious threat.
Hunchbacks are omnivores (most preferably carnivores) and level-exclusive entities that inhabit the deep undergrounds of Level 45.
Hunchbacks take the appearance of a long and lanky humanoid figure with pale and wrinkly skin over their body and having protracted limbs, their backs are curved forward and bulged from their tendency to navigate on both their arms and legs at the same time, hence to why they were given the name Hunchbacks due to their poor posture. Their anatomy is abnormal compared to many humanoid creatures in the Backrooms, with unique bone blades on their upper thighs providing a layer of protection and how they walk with their heels elevated off from the ground, sharp toes and fingers to match up the incision from an ordinary combat blade. Their arms are as long enough to straighten and reach to their ankles.
They use their hands to their advantage to slit and wound their prey with potential, inflicted damage from the creature can induce infections and high-speed spreading bacteria. Hunchbacks have poor physical health conditions, as they hardly bathe themselves to maintain their hygiene and in addition their self-explanatory bad posture. Their horrid roars can reach up to a disturbing 110db (decibels), producing detrimental damage to the ears. Despite their dominance from their monstrous height, their speed capacity is slower at an equivalent rate to an average human. Often times their prey will outrun them when giving chase, being prone to starvation and die out sooner after their long trek. These creatures are still greater from their colossal quantity that inhabit the deep cavities and disperse widely and evenly spread-out throughout the system of caves.
Hunchbacks are constantly entering in and dying within the level, because of the horrific fact that these creatures are hatched from concealed craters from The Hive. An antagonistic place responsible for producing entities always laying and hatching, the source of where all entities come from and traverse to reach to levels in the Backrooms.Colonies & Outposts
Regardless of possessing a habitable environment with enough supply of food and drinkable water, Level 45 remains uninhabited under unknown conditions by humans and is completely devoid of life other than the aforementioned entity(s). Many communities gathered to attempt forming a successful territory while all of the experiments were discarded from the bizarre circumstances and the unstable habitat Level 45 holds.
