"did you bring the grocery list"

A common starting point in Level 451. Photographer presumed lost.

Description

Level 451, similarly to Level 203, is a dimly lit building closely resembling that of a local supermarket. The ceiling tiles are made of a unique kind of asbestos which does not appear to affect the lungs. The walls are built from a mixture of concrete and steel, and the floor's compositional properties have not been identified. The fluorescent lights that frequently appear within Level 451 do not work, making the refrigerated food aisles the only source of light. Most foods contained within Level 451 are completely inedible, aside from a small shelf that appears at random (what Wanderers call "the Sanctuary").

A few records from Level 451 suggest that it is non-Euclidean in nature [See Journal Log #14], thus its exact area is unmeasurable. Many Wanderers coming from Level 451 have advised not to wander too far from your starting point, otherwise you'll quickly get lost.

Only one entity has been confirmed to reside in Level 451. When a Wanderer is transported to this level, an exact copy of themselves is manifested elsewhere in the level. Wanderers call these entities "Unwanderers".

Unwanderers

Unwanderers. as mentioned above, are copies of Wanderers who find their way into Level 451. Once an Unwanderer appears, it never disappears. Sometimes, Unwanderers have slight inaccuracies or differences from their counterpart. These can include height, limb length, or head size. These entities also possess a variety of supernatural abilities, such as:

  • Duplication - Unwanderers can duplicate themselves at will, mainly to gain the trust of multiple people at once and/or terrify an unsuspecting Wanderer. After its intended use is fulfilled, a duplicate will simply disappear without a trace. Only three confirmed instances of duplication have been documented.
  • Echoing - When an Unwanderer gains the trust of a Wanderer, it will begin to use phrases that would otherwise be mundane or uninteresting to a common Wanderer in a way that would make one break down in fear or terror. The effect stops after the victim is unresponsive or another Wanderer intervenes. The most common phrase this effect manifests under is "Did you bring the grocery list?". It is unknown at this time if the phrases used have anything to do with a Wanderer's personal experiences.

There is a popular theory which states that before Unwanderers become Unwanderers, they are free spirits roaming Level 451. They are very possessive, and do not want any being trespassing into their "land". However, they can not interact with their surroundings, due to not having any existent matter. This can explain why Unwanderers appear to be extremely aggressive towards Wanderers.

FINAL NOTE: If you find someone you suspect to be an Unwanderer, do not hesitate to run away or hide.

Colonies and Outposts

NOTICE: Due to the nature of Level 451, colonies and outposts are unable to be established.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Sleeping in any Class 0 level for longer than 10 hours can transport you here.
  • A popular theory claims that a small crawlspace within Level 20 can bring you to this level. However, this theory is almost completely unreliable as there is no way of knowing where this crawlspace might be.
  • Other theories suggest an entrance to Level 451 may exist in The Frontrooms.
    • One report says the land founded by the Vatican City contains an entrance.
    • Another report says there is an entrance within one of the countries in Section 2 (known to Frontrooms residents as North America).

Exits

  • A large door labeled "EMPLOYEES ONLY" can be found in random spots. It is connected to a wooden room, about 1.5 sq. meters in area. This room acts as an elevator that can take you to a random level, most commonly Level 0.

451 Logs

It should be noted that these logs were found outside the confines of Level 451. No information has explained why or how.

A1 Subject #1: This is audio log...87? 88? Hell, I don't know. Anyway, while I was trying to get some beauty sleep in Level 103, I ended up in this grocery-store-looking place. The display says I've reached Level 451, but I don't think there's a proper log of that. Did I just discover a new level?

[pause]

I think I'm in a grocery store.

A1 Subject #2: [distant] Hello?

A1 Subject #1: Oh my god, someone's he- [cutoff]

A2 Subject #1: Log número nueve, this is Damien with the crew. Say hi, guys.

Various A2 Subjects: Hi.

A2 Subject #1 (Damien): After finally getting to The Hub, we all just walked into a random door. So far, I'm not liking our choice.

A2 Subject #2: Dude, can we turn back? This place is creepy.

A2 Subject #3: We can't leave, dipshit. There's no exits around here.

Damien: Guys, shut up! We can survive here. This is literally a grocery store! There's food everywhere!

A2 Subject #4: It might be fake.

Damien: Great, now you jinxed it.

[plastic ripping]

Damien: Ow, fuck! Those hotdogs were fucking made of wood!

A2 Subject #4: I knew it.

A2 Subject #3: Oh, great. No exits, now no food to eat. We're gonna die.

Damien: No, it might've just been that specific pack of hot dogs. How's about we split up to try and find food?

A2 Subject #3: That's a terrible idea! Have you not seen a horror movie ever?

Damien: I'm not gonna put up with your anger anymore, Josh. Shut the hell up and go find us some food!

[quick footsteps]

A2 Subject #2: I just wish you guys would stop fighting all the time.

Damien: [sigh] Whatever.

End of transcript.

LOG 14

I don't know how long I've been in Level 451, but I know I shouldn't have come here.

I finally found Josh about an hour ago. But when I called out to him, he looked at me and asked the same question over and over again like he was a robot. I don't remember what the question was, but I ran away as fast as I could. Something wasn't right with him.

The thing is, I swear I was running directly back to where I started when I was looking for Josh, but everything's different. I haven't seen a "fruits" section in a while, and there were at least 3 aisles full of frozen foods. I only ever saw one on my path. I feel like this place is teleporting me somehow.

Some good news: I found a shelf with canned goods on it. It looked out of place from everything else, like it was put there haphazardly. It was all crooked and didn't line up with anything else. Out of curiosity, I opened a can of diced pineapples and I was hit with the smell of heaven.

I finally found some food.

I've been stationed here for a while, just to catch my breath and feast. I hope this isn't the only shelf with edible food on it.

Note: This text was transcribed from a pocket journal found in Level 0. None of the colonies within Level 0 claimed that the journal was theirs.

LOG 15

Against all odds, I'm still Damien. Still can't find any of my friends.

I had to run away from my little safe haven after I saw someone walking toward me. I didn't see their face, but they were wearing the same clothes as Belle. Orange shirt, loose blue jeans, even her class ring from when she graduated. I hope that wasn't her. She was much shorter.

I'm in a new place, as I expected. I found someone different this time, another lady. She looks sane enough to stay with for a bit. Said her name was Adri. Very nice to me. Maybe I finally found someone normal for a change. In the meantime, I'm still attempting to find one of those shelves again. I'm getting kinda hungry.

Note: It is assumed that Belle is A2 Subject #4.
