Level 46, often known as "The Arabian Desert" or "Empty Quarter," is a vast, boundless expanse of desert reminiscence of the Arabian desert—one of the immense and harshest deserts in The Frontrooms. The level's size remains undetermined, and the attempts to prove the presumption have been ambiguous due to the hazardous circumstances. Some argued that the barren landscape would change as one moved further from the entrance, while others believed the levels could be infinitely large. The desolate desert resembles a wasteland with irregular and intricately patterned golden sand, forming enormous dunes that can reach impressive heights. In response to wind sculpting, dunes may develop mesmerizing terrain with ridges and valleys. When climbing or navigating steep dune slopes, dunes can be unsteady alongside unstable dunes and collapse, burying or retaining individuals.

The level's diurnal cycle materializes out of sync with what happens in The Frontrooms; exhibiting an inconsistent time process via both days and nights that doesn't follow the predictable pattern and encompasses additionally prolonged periods, meandering from more than 48 hours to up to a week. Afternoon temperatures exceeding 120°F (49°C) provide an arid and drastic climate that could be lethal to human life. But nighttime temperatures often fall below zero, signaling a significant drop to -30 degrees Celsius, leading to hypothermia if one is not well equipped. Sunrise and sunset are the most convenient times to navigate, as the temperature is between 50°F and 80°F (10°C and 27°C) or lower inferior. Level 46 displays intermittent and unpredictable precipitation, resulting in stagnant puddles in shaded areas next to vegetation. Even so, these moisture sources usually remain contaminated by the Hydrolitis Plague, rendering them unreliable and unfit for human consumption.

The atmosphere of Level 46 distinguishes itself with unobstructed scenery and intense sunlight during the day, with minimal sky coloring hues due to its scarcity of consequential greenery. Clouds are relatively infrequent due to the grinding environment and are often associated with specific weather conditions, such as the possibility of rainfall. The twilight skies tend to be unambiguous, making it an immaculate establishment for those curious about stargazing and astronomy. Studies and investigations reveal that this desert-like terra boasts three manifest celestial bodies, named Luna, Titan, and Europa, with the latter observable wrapped in a striking blue and green shade concealed among other starlights. Starlights and celestial bodies are apparent with outstanding clarity. Each night view features star patterns that are unevenly shifting. Many individuals declare that Level 46 starlight has an advantageous impact on one's sanity in a scientific, unproven manner.

Should one bury into the foundation or utilize a metal detector, they could stumble upon considerable antique yet intriguing objects underneath the ground. Coins, necklaces, containers, axes, metal bars, clothes, and other specialties that might qualify as intimate belongings—many suppositions propose multiple little metal bars cut into fragments, perhaps performing as coinage. B.R.L.A. is now seeking arbitrary locations encircling their outpost to offer and examine for further acquaintance concerning prospective bygone communities, considering the unclear origins of countless things buried in the dunes. The ruins discovered within the level further reinforce the widely accepted assumption that Level 46 was formerly an aspect of an ancient civilization.

Desert4001

Desert4001

When the sun rises, the ground coating rapidly heats up, concocting thermal disparities between the surface and the air above, compelling amiable air upwards. Muscular currents and turbulence in the outermost layer may pick up unconsolidated sand particles as this warm air inflates, eventually generating sandstorms. Dry sand and dust particles from the desert floor will blow into the ambiance at accelerations altering from 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers) to 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers) or more.

As the winds haul sand particles, treacherous circumstances emerge, and the sandstorms persist. Sandstorms dramatically impair visibility, making it difficult to maneuver and explore. As an outcome of the gravel air, one's eyes may get clouded, irritated, and painful. Inhaling fine sand and dust grains can affect an individual's health. It may worsen respiratory diseases, irritate the throat, induce coughing, and result in long-term health issues.

The desert is mainly known for its dry and harsh characteristics. However, in Level 46, vegetation has adapted to the extremely arid conditions and thrives in this challenging environment. Resistant species like acacia trees, date palms, and drought-tolerant cultivated shrubs can materialize around aquatic oases. Other plant life and flora are naturally scarce and restricted to positions with abundant water.

These plants, like saltbush, desert needle grass, and sand couch grass, can thrive in somewhat wetter environments and are well-suited for deserts with salty soil due to their adaptations. Several of the aforementioned plant species may be worthwhile in desperate or necessary situations, serving as vital supplies of nutrition and vibrancy like date palms, or they may present materials for manufacturing handicrafts and building shelters.

Oases[]

Level 46 has been known for hosting five oases strewn around the landscape; the oases, notably the one in The Frontrooms, represent comparatively tiny agricultural regions replenished with water for inhabitants, taking the form of a natural spring or subsurface aquifer. Their thick forested foliage and the presence of ample water distinguish them from the surrounding desert landscape. These areas not only support plant growth but also provide nearby shelter and a variety of food and water sources for sustenance.

According to inquiries into the water's source, those may emerge as a minimal lake or pool following a prolonged downpour or as a natural spring erupting upwards from the subsurface. The mere presence of water is essential to allowing an oasis to thrive in the harsh, arid desert habitat. The vast and endless desert terrain makes it unlikely for people to find oases, which are vital hubs in the harsh desert conditions, offering nourishment and relief from the obstacles.

Each of the five oases in Level 46 has the following names: Desert's Mirage, Life's Spring, Night's Haven, Enchanted Spring, and Water's Edge. Those peculiar, still-unknown qualities are yet to reveal themselves, including keeping entities from infiltrating the zone, prohibiting natural disasters from occurring there and being exhaustively complimentary of catastrophes. Although further research and breakdown into the abnormal feature fail to uncover any information of interest, this location seems blessed with its remarkable possessions.

The remnants of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) and other inexplicable substances have been detected in Level 46's oasis water, showing that they are indistinguishable compared to Level 37 lukewarm water. While the oasis's spring water is pleasantly frigid and appropriate for the desert's summer weather, further inspection discloses that Level 46's water composition and unknown constituents differ from those in Level 37. This research determination led to the belief that the level's unidentified compounds correspond to the oasis's incognito traits.

The following is a list of five oases located on Level 46.

  • Desert's Mirage: The first prominent oasis on Level 46 is called Desert's Mirage. Due to being the one that many individuals overlook, B.R.L.A. established a community there. The outpost's status as an oasis and its immediate water reserve made it feasible to develop agriculture that generated food-producing plants and fruits.
  • Life's Spring - The Life's Spring oasis lies 95.59 kilometers south of the M.E.G. base outpost. The oases have several ancient dwellings, farms, and other buildings excavated near an oasis, exhibiting indications of an old occupancy of people from decades ago. The oases also display historical signals of what used to be human civilizations and the production of crops around oasis regions.
  • Night's Haven - The Night's Haven oasis distinguishes itself from the rest of the four oases due to its unconventional and distinctive markers. The sky's intention gradually turns nighty as one approaches the oasis, notwithstanding the duration of the level. The time cycle in Night's Heaven perpetually stays the same even though the oasis mood temperature will warm in disparity to the ordinary level's nighttime temperature.
  • Enchanted Spring - The Enchanted Spring oasis includes springs comparable to other oases, but the water appears neon and illuminates its own. Under a thorough examination, the water in this oasis is composed of Corruptocolor—also known as Substum Insolor—a neon liquid associated with Corruptionite.
  • Water's Edge - The most recently found oasis on Level 46 is Water's Edge. The oasis' existence is assured; it lies significantly outlying away from the M.E.G. outpost, retaining the anticipation of a standard oasis but more extensive than the other mentioned oasis. Many assert that after one desires to continue farther beyond the oasis in one route.

Due to its unrestricted size, Level 46 could incorporate more than the five oases stated previously. Several individuals proclaimed to have found more oases but were still uncertain. All conclude that those declarations are likely to be Water's Edge due to its large proportions that can arise in various shapes and regions. M.E.G. and B.R.L.A. are now conducting research, searching for further data, and verifying the validity of a finding claim.

Temple Scrolls[]

Level46

Level46

The Ancient One, a long-gone civilization that attained Level 46, constructed the grandest ruined site known as Temple Scrolls, a long-gone civilization that attained Level 46. The building's architecture and design are equivalent to those of Egyptian temples. Nevertheless, there is no manifestation on-site or documented record that the temple is an establishment of worship or rituals. Instead, the temple's prominent purpose is to gather precious artifacts like sculptures and paintings, accompanying a collection of multiple valuable objects and articles. Extensive, towering gates marked the entrances of temples adorned with artistic reliefs and the civilization's language. The sweeping courtyards seen in temples are likely to have been employed for gatherings and discussions. The interior incorporates a labyrinth of passages and hallways that resemble a maze, ostensibly meant to mislead invaders and safeguard the temple's resources.

The chambers within the structure are enormous and supported by several columns, with exquisite carvings, paintings, and linguistic characters decorating the walls. The temple wall inscriptions matched the astronomical and geographical features of Level 46. They offered details about events like the movement of stars, forecasts for rain and daylight patterns, and a map of the nearby land. This information, based on a detailed analysis of the inscriptions, also included directions to other settlements. Furthermore, the record uses a mathematical formula comparable to The Frontrooms and computes the ordinances of Level 46's physics. M.E.G. has a station set up afterward to the temple, manipulates the temple as its headquarters of operations, and conducts breakdowns both within and outside the temple.

The Ancient One[]

The name "The Ancient Ones" refers to the now probably extinct civilization that formerly inhabited Level 46 and has been speculated to be the origin of the many aberrant ruins. The headwaters of their demise are unknown. It is probable that a phenomenon known as "The Flicker" led to The Ancient Ones' disappearance and the abandonment of their structures. Although plenty of wax tablets and papyrus writing discovered on Level 370 show that The Ancient One relocated there after the occurrence and established a new association there, it is still undefined where they have proceeded or where they live because the community does not exist till this day. What is clear is that The Ancient Ones possessed a degree of scientific development sufficient to provide astral charts and a solar cycle forecast that are relatively more accurate and comprehensive than those assembled by the M.E.G.

Entities[]

Facelings and Hounds are the exclusive entities at Level 46, predominantly appearing at night or during a sandstorm. Although several people declare to have seen creatures emerge from the dune, it generally seems that they are not identical to the usual entities in The Backrooms, as they are considerably more aggressive than regular and lack any symptoms of vulnerability. This level's Hounds and Facelings are sentient sand in the constitution of their entities, with the sand conducting to form into the bodies and flesh of the entities. Nevertheless, exerting sufficient pressure on one of the entities—such as a punch or kick—triggers the sand to lose its anomalous properties, causing it to lose its body parts of bodies or die. M.E.G. attempts to study the entities on this level but fails since when entities perish, their bodies shift and pour into the sand floor.

B.R.L.A. Mirage outpost[]

The Desert Mirage Oasis, an outpost established by the Backrooms Living Association (B.R.L.A.), serves as a sanctuary for travelers. The outpost accommodates 55-63 individuals, including 27 permanent residents, and is a self-sufficient village constructed with wooden cabins made from wood imported from other levels. The outpost features amenities such as wifi, solar-powered electricity, and running water. The B.R.L.A. offers essential resources and support to those who continue their journey through the backrooms.

M.E.G. outposts "Desert Rose"[]

The Major Explorer Group (M.E.G.) has strategically placed outposts near modern-looking ruins and Temple Scroll, the purpose of which is to be related to the containment of valuable and ancient objects and items inside the temple and investigate and study unknown behind The Ancient Ones. Each outpost shelters a small number of individuals, typically between 8-20 people. The outpost will politely request that travelers vacate and provide directions to the B.R.L.A. Mirage outpost if one persists for an extended period. M.E.G. members will escort travelers to the designated outpost upon request.

Recovered Paper[]

The gods lied to us. There is no salvation. There is no afterlife. There is no hope beyond the void. There is no ascension from the chasm. Entropy is the only freedom we have, and we must embrace it. Millennium from now, nothingness shall prevail. Decay shall once again regain its autarch status under its primordial dominion. The only savior we have is the opening arms of time, which will inevitably bring everything to an ultimate collapse, where afterward, only the lost spirits of the damned will roam the endless darkness that comes afterward.
