Level 472 is the 473rd level of the Backrooms.
Soon, this will all be a distant memory…

Description
Level 472 is unstable — a time anomaly. In simple terms, this is an old clock shop — the entire room is in black and white, and any sense of time is lost while in the level. Every clock displays a different time; any time-telling electronic devices on your person will also display a time inconsistent with the time you entered the level. The wooden walls and fabric carpets seem inviting while the hundreds of clocks seem nauseating. Luckily, a wise old entity, taking the appearance of a human around age 70, exists to help guide wanderers out of the level while also taking the time to explain the level's backstory. He calls himself the Clocksmith, and he claims to have run this shop for approximately a few minutes.
Any time a clock strikes midnight, it makes a chime sound consistent with the clock model — digital clocks create a buzzing noise, grandfather clocks create a bell chime, and mechanical birds will pop out of cuckoo clocks. The moment you look away, the clock will disappear from existence, being replaced by a different clock in its place. The Clocksmith explains that this is a natural phenomenon — each clock has a 24-hour life span. They all are born when the previous clock strikes midnight and die when they strike midnight. In fact, everything in this level has a 24-hour life span — the walls, the floor, even the Clocksmiths themselves are replaced and reborn every 24 hours.
For a building resembling 80s design, the technology here is quite modern — the lights seemingly never burn out, the elevators feel really futuristic, and the electronics in this area resemble current devices today. The screen especially has a very odd feel to it — it never turns on, but the wiring is so complex that even our electrical engineers struggle to underst-

[BEGIN AUDIO TRANSMISSION]
00:00 - Is this audio recorder on? Oh, looks like it is. Damnit. I should've seen this coming. It's another one of those routine blackouts. Oh well, I have little else to do; I'll just sit back and enjoy my time until the lights turn back on. For now, you'll get to experience the darkness with me.
[CHEERING & APPLAUSE]
00:02 - Huh, I must be hallucinating. That television screen turned on. I've never seen it do that. Doesn't look like anyone else has, since the entire building has broken into cheers and applause. I'll need to revise this little page when the power comes back on. Looks like it's just got static and colorful "TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES" displays on it; I think the engineers have finally found out how to turn the thing on. It's got the little static sound too.
00:04 - Oh, I see myself in infrared on the screen. That's cool. Oh look, it switched to an x-ray display. Damn, my bones really are messed up… And the screen's gone blank again, but it's still making distorted noises.
00:09 - Hey! The screen's back on again! However, there's now projections displaying all around me — on the roof, the floor, the four walls — all displaying the same thing as the screen, which still switches between infrared and x-ray displays. I don't think I've ever seen this happen — maybe just the engineers experimenting with the vast technology here. Where is everyone, anyway? I don't even hear any cheering or applause anymore.
00:25 - Oh, what the hell? It's been 25 minutes. The silence is killing me. How are the lights still not back on? These projections are still littering the walls and that damn screen is still on. I'll give them a few more minutes — if the lights don't come on, I'll turn them on myself in the electrical room.

00:33 - Wait, a solid wall? That can't be right… Hold on, where am I? Th-this place just suddenly got smaller and now resembles a cube. The hell? It's completely dark except for the projections all over the walls; the screens are gone, th-that thing’s gone too, everyone's gone.
00:35 - I m-must be going mad. M-mad. What's even going on?
00:43 - Please, if anyone's hearing this transmission on the other line, send h-help. Help. They're sentient. T-those screens. God, they're displaying e-everything now. My childhood trauma, trippy colorful patterns, and th-[UNINTELLIGIBLE]

Electrical Engineering Team:
Hello, this is the electrical engineering team speaking. We fix the blackouts, monitor the cameras, and handle the wiring. We stay back in the little room titled "ELECTRICAL" to do our business. It's locked. Don't try entering it. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing some issues with fixing this recent blackout. Give us a few more hours; we guarantee that the light in this level will be back up and running soon. We just need to… tie up some loose wires first, dispose of any broken parts, and clean up the trash. We're dedicated to bringing the highest quality lighting possible in Level 750. Bear with us.
INCIDENT REPORT - 7 UNIDENTIFIED BODIES FOUND CURLED UP IN THE FETAL POSITION WITH THEIR BRAINS REMOVED.
