Description

Level 478 consists of a seemingly infinite, grey-colored, rocky highland and mountainous region that is constantly shrouded in a thick fog/cloud cover. The level has a high humidity and is often drenched in moisture. Its temperature usually stays at a perfect 70 degrees Fahrenheit. However, every 1203 hours and 4 minutes temperatures drop to a freezing 10 degrees for about 5 hours. Wanderers are advised to keep track of the time on this level to be prepared for this sudden temperature drop. There are occasional steep hills and sheer, jagged cliffs, but the area is mainly flat and uniform. Visibility is low due to this eternal fog, limiting sight to a mere 15 feet in some areas. The low visibility poses a slight risk of falling down the occasional cliff.

There are countless cooled lava rocks scattered across the level, ranging from the size of a small pebble to a large house. These rocks have strange, but useful properties. When ground up to a fine, dark grey powder and combined with almond water, they can significantly amplify the positive effects of almond water. An estimated 60-70 percent increase in beneficial effects has been observed. These rocks make level 478 popular among wanderers who wish to augment one of the most important resources in the backrooms. If the rocks are not mixed with almond water properly, the consumer will experience Mystical Rock Consumption Disease (MRCD). The person will experience chronic headaches, abdominal pain, fatigue, occasional double vision, confusion, and minor short term memory loss. These symptoms will all gradually fade, lasting for an annoying 3-12 months. In extremely high doses of raw, unmixed rock, death can occur.

The only natural lifeforms found on this level are species of moss, ferns, and small shrubs, which grow plentifully on the ground and on rocks. This level mainly follows the standard rules of physics, but the day/night cycle is disorienting and strange; Day and night are both only a mere 18 minutes and 12 seconds long, and the sun and moon always stay in the same position in the sky. When it becomes nighttime, the sun will abruptly vanish, and be replaced by the moon, and vice versa for when it becomes daytime. Almond water can be found in natural springs and ponds, which are often located at the base of hills in this level. Sometimes, random crates of bread, vegetables, and fruit will slowly and gently fall from the hazy, cloud covered sky. This food is proven to be safe to eat but for some reason has much less nutritional value than ordinary food.

Entities

  • The only entities found on level 478 are smilers. They are relatively rare, it is uncommon for them to hunt in packs, and they only appear during the night.
  • There have been a couple reports of hound sightings during nighttime, but this is still unconfirmed.

Colonies and Outposts

The Followers of The Divine Rock:

  • A religious cult worshipping the rocks found in level 478, believing that they are a divine gift from the heavens.
  • Neutral and not willing to trade.
  • Has 21 members.
  • Lives on a large hill very close to the spawn point.

Sarah’s Group

  • A group, founded by Sarah, that constantly hoards food, almond water, the rock powder, and other resources.
  • Slightly hostile and not willing to trade.
  • Has 15 members.
  • Lives at the base of a large hill close to the spawn point.

The Rocky Community

  • A peaceful community that lives in stone huts near spawn point.
  • Very friendly and willing to trade.
  • Has 56 members.
  • Has a decent amount of resources.

The Powder Producers

  • A group of workers that offer to amplify your almond water using the mythical rocks for a reasonable price, claiming to have an emphasis on the safe and ethical production of their product.
  • Friendly, and willing to trade.
  • Has 13 members.
  • Lives near a cliff right behind the hill where The Followers of The Divine Rock live.

Entrances

  • Slight chance of entry when falling asleep on level 6 (~11% chance).
  • Falling or jumping off the roof of any light grey building on level 11 will transport you here.
  • No-clipping through a detailed oil painting of a rock on level 5 will send you here (~1.3% chance of such a painting spawning).
  • By wandering far enough in level 2, you may reach a cyan room filled with countless dehumidifiers. If you turn off any one of the dehumidifiers, you will pass out and wake up in level 478.
  • By digging a 5-foot hole in level 100, and forcefully jumping into it, there is a significant chance of no-clipping into level 478 (~78% chance).

Exits

  • By jumping off a 20-foot cliff that is notably paler in color from the rest of the environment, and (while you are falling) saying any level number you like, there is a ~50% chance of being transported to the level that you said. However, if you state level 33, 658, 666, 11, or 3999, there is only a 10% chance of success. It is advised not to use this exit because of possible injury. Also, the chance of finding this cliff is low.
  • By no-clipping through the wall of any cliff, there is a solid chance of being transported to level 4 (~32% chance).
  • By wandering far enough in the level, you will reach a massive, sleek skyscraper. If you enter through the main glass door entrance, you will be teleported to level 11. If you enter through a metal door in the back, you will be sent to level 120.
