Level 480 is the 481th level of the Backrooms.

Description

Level 480 is a large forest spanning an area of around 370 km2. The level resembles a snowy forest in northern Siberia. Though there are little entities in this level, the forest is constantly blanketed by fog and overcasts with no clear time of day. Plus, wanderers are prone to hypothermia especially during snow events, with temperatures often getting as low as -20°C, which is why wearing thick jackets or coats is advised while wandering this level. Throughout the level are Almond Water springs and ponds, as well as wild berries and fruit that you would normally find in the Siberian wilderness. Wanderers have compared this level to Level 311.

Regions

Level 480 is split into 4 regions: The Drowned Lands, City, Valley and Coastline.

Drowned Lands

A photo of the Drowned Lands

The Drowned Lands is often the first thing you see when entering Level 480. The Drowned Lands earns its name from its "drowned" state, seeing as the dirt seems wet, as if a flash flood had taken place here. A garage and a train station is in this region, filled with useful items such as Almond Water and weapons.

City

The City is, well, a city- but all the buildings there are merely residential condominiums and high rises. This city also has useful items, but at the same time also is inhabited by hostile entities. It's advised that you proceed with caution while traversing this region. An unknown, vicious black substance has also been reported to be leaking from some apartments. Wanderers have complained about the liquid smelling like blood, but this is unconfirmed. However, a few researchers at an M.E.G outpost nearby say the liquid is probably not blood.

Valley

The Valley is a region spanning a distance of over 136 kilometers. A river runs at the bottom of the valley for an unspecified length. The highest point in the valley is 483 meters above sea level. Though the peak does not have an official name, a colony was established on the peak in the 20th century.

Coastline

The Coastline is the last of the four regions. It resembles the rocky coastlines of Taymyr, and is the only region with no vegetation. A lighthouse stands just off the coast, but it is almost impossible to reach it. The ocean seems to stretch on for infinity, and during the snow event all of the water in the ocean freezes, enabling wanderers to walk on the frozen water. The ocean is also devoid of any life, though a wanderer claims to have seen a serpent-like creature near the lighthouse. A small beach runs at the bottom of the coastline, and a small structure resembling a post office stands on a hill in this region. This region is almost completely devoid of entities, but it is still advised to proceed with caution due to many hazards.

Entities

Apart from Facelings and Hounds, the level has its own unique entities.

Street Light

Street Lights are, true to their word, resembling street lights scattered around the City and Drowned Lands. However, Street Lights have also been reported in the Valley and Coastline regions. Theses creatures lure their prey by acting like normal lights, as well as mentally inducing those nearby to to near it. Once it's prey gets near, a slimy neon-white liquid begins pouring out from the light blub. Those who are unlucky enough to get out of the way in time are consumed by the liquid, which was measured to be as hot as 2,700°C. This liquid burns the human skin immediately, and can kill someone within a minute. Water has little to no effect on the liquid, so make sure not to stand under a street light until you are sure that it isn't a Street Light creature. Ways to identify a Street Light are the following:

  • The same hot liquid is seen around a Street Light.
  • Street Lights are brighter than normal street lights.
  • Street Lights are also painted in a brighter color than normal ones.
  • If you shoot a Street Light, it will spontaneously combust, releasing the hot liquid from within.

Polz

Polz is a creature that roams around the City region. It's name derives from the Russian word "Polzti", which in turn means "crawl" or "creep". The entity is a large creature resembling a distorted Faceling, though it's entire skin is black. The legs and arms are severely warped, and it's face has five tentacles which it uses to kill humans. It attacks both lone wanderers and groups, and is almost invulnerable to attacks. However, shots from shotguns can temporarily stun the Polz, enabling wanderers to escape.

Colonies and Outposts

Apartment Colony

  • Colony based within a 25-storey apartment building on the outskirts of the City region.
  • Friendly to trade
  • Consists of approximately 130 members
  • Has several M.E.G members

Colony Dolina

  • Colony established in the 1990's on the highest peak in Valley
  • Consists of 40 members
  • Friendly to trade
  • Good relationship with Apartment Colony

Republic of Level 480

  • Consist of 110 members
  • Willing to trade except for items from Colony Dolina
  • Rivalry with Apartment Colony and Colony Dolina

Disappearances

There have been two disappearances that occurred in the Valley region, both involving Colony Dolina members. The first incident occurred in 2000, when two Colony Dolina members disappeared while exploring the far side of the Valley. A video recording was found a week after their disappearance.

MAN: Alright, here we are.

MAN_2: How far are we from Dolina?

MAN: Uhhh... I have no clue.

MAN_2: I don't like this, why are we this far from base?

MAN_3: Buck up Hammond, we're still in contact that's what matters.

MAN_2: Well, the fog is getting on my nerves.

MAN: We-

MAN:...huh?

MAN_2: What did you find?

MAN: It's a slide... going underground.

MAN_3: Interesting. What about it?

MAN_2: Should we even go down there? That seems like a terrible idea.

MAN: Uhhh...maybe we should-

(Indistinct noise)

MAN_3: WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??

MAN: Uhh...

MAN_2: ...

MAN_3: Guys?

MAN_3: WAIT, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOI-

(Grunt)

MAN_3: Oh f***, why did they do that???

(Audio cuts out)

Once the third man returned to base and explained what happened, a search party was organized to the site. When they got to the site however, they found no signs of a slide, nor any hole in the ground. Some Colony Dolina members believe that the slide leads to the The Frontrooms.
