Level 499 is the 500th level of The Backrooms.

Level 499 consists of a post-apocaliptic world, that is very different from the territories that we can see in The Frontrooms. Due to the nature of the level, it is almost impossible to establish colonies or outposts, or even to stay here for days. The entities that populate this level adaptated to its conditions, being different from the rest of the levels. There isn't a backstory for this level, as most of the explorers who discovered this level either died or were too traumatized to document in detail how the level is.

Survival Difficulty

Survival Difficulty: Paráfron

"Paráfron class are levels that are insanely dangerous for exploration, and has entities to the point of infestation, or sometimes does not contain entities, or they aren't visible. Even in levels with no entities, you feel something is watching you from far away. It has highly dangerous properties, and can heavily affect sanity. Should be avoided, at all costs." [Extremely Unsafe, No Security, Entity Infestation]

Description

As said before, Level 499 is pretty unique compared to the other levels. It's composed of a fairly big territory, that looks like a post-apocaliptic scenario, like Chernobyl after the reactor incident. The atmosphere has less oxygen and more carbon monoxide than normal, making this level dangerous for exploring. It is very hard to find anything besides destruction here. This includes almond water, cashew water, regular water, food, weapons, sleeping bags, etc.

Wi-Fi connection here is unexistent, meaning that you can't communicate with someone outside this level, unless you exit it. In this level, you won't see colonies or outposts, since it's very hard to breathe, there are a lot of uncommon entities and it's generally unpleasant. It is recommended for you to find an exit as fast as possible.

The Zotiákití Incident

A long time ago, Level 499 was a very peaceful level. There was a system of society, a lot of buildings constructed by the population and some colonies and outposts. People tried to enter this level just to live here. However, an unknown object with high quantities of uranium and other toxic materials collided with the level, destabilizing all the elements of the level. Most of the population were exterminated instantly, but some were able to escape. For a long time, this level was completely impossible to stay, with most of the people dying. After a lot of years, Level 499 returned to a somewhat normal state, but the place of the impact is still affected by the incident.

Colonies and Outposts

There aren't colonies or outposts in this level.

Entities

The entities present in this level evoluted to resist the characteristics of this level. The entities are:

  • Skin-stealers;
  • Dave;
  • Facelings;
  • Death moths (mostly male, are in process of extinction).

The results of the evolution were more resistance to heat, less need of oxygen and water and more muscles (if they have).

Entering Level 499

  • If you reverse time on Level 498, you can get here. If you find an exploded wall on Level 0 and go to see what is behind it, you will go here too.
  • If you walk back and forth on Level 99 for 4 days and 9 hours, you will no-clip to here.

Exiting Level 500

  • If you walk to the direction of the Center of the Apocalypse on this level, eventually, you will be teleported to Level 500. You can also go to Level 529 by the same method.
  • Going through a destroyed house in Level 15.3 will lead you to here.
