Description

Level 55 is an expansive infinite landscape of grassy hills under a solid blue sky, devoid of sun and life. The hills consist of a thick blanket of fake grass atop concrete mounds, thus adding to the level's artifactual ambiance. The concrete appears indestructible, as many common methods of destruction do not work on it. Across the hills, houses of identical appearance can be found placed in the center of their respective hills, each one devoid of electricity and content. Additionally, irregularly placed fences may circularly surround their assigned houses, sometimes failing to encompass the full perimeter of the building. Other miscellaneous forms of architecture can also be found on hills, such as empty water towers, television towers, et cetera. From each building, a paved street stretches from one structure to another; street signs can be found along the roads.

In addition to an indeterminable origin of level-wide illumination, there are no other light sources in the level, with all the houses being devoid of their necessary illuminative objects; additionally, any light sources manually brought onto the level will instantly fail to function. The sky is completely devoid of clouds; furthermore, there have been no reports of weather events occurring in the level; there is also no wind. With the lack of light on the level, Level 55 is completely devoid of water and is thereby used as a temporary rest place by wanderers. However, due to the level's possession of mentally hazardous anomalous properties, it's recommended to not linger.

The houses of Level 55, as previously said, are all identical in appearance, design, and interior. Their composition mainly consists of weak panels of plaster and is easily damaged; simply leaning on the wall may cause it to collapse. However, the households themselves are unable to experience temporal decay. Each building houses two stories, each one being an empty, square space of considerably large size. These areas are commonly found in an incredibly dusty state and are consequently considered biohazards. The first story is featureless with the exception of the entry door and three indistinguishable windows on the opposite wall. In the corner will be a staircase that leads up to the second story, which possesses two identical windows on the same end as the first story's windows. The ground of Level 55 is covered by a thick blanket of fake grass, as stated above. The false vegetation spans across the entirety of the level in a fluent fashion, being able to cover the ground according to its curves and bends. Roughly one foot below the grass cover is solid, indestructible concrete.

After a few minutes of venturing the level, lightheadedness will begin to overcome the wanderer, decreasing their ability to form rational thoughts. However, the consumption of Almond Water can stabilize the mental effects of the level's phenomenon. Foods brought onto the level will slowly get a disorientated taste, often causing lightheadedness and difficulty in rationalization. Consequently, consumption of food is highly unadvised if one has wandered the level for long periods of time. The texture of the edibles will gradually become clay-like, eventually making it extremely unappetizing. Aside from the mental hazards, however, it has shown no effects on one's metabolism. As one continues to explore the level, their vision will begin to undergo distortion; the colors of the level will appear more vibrant as well and the saturation of the level will slowly increase.

Level 55 is known for its vast diversity in anomalous properties, with the most famed being the prevalent silence in Level 55, with its lack of sound measuring -10 decibels. In addition, any noise caused on the level will sound "muffled", being much quieter than what it was; echoes unusually do not occur in Level 55, thus amplifying the quietude. Due to this phenomenon, wanderers may go insane within a short period. The sound-stifling property of the level, however, does not affect the interior of the houses. Damaged houses, however, are still affected. Additionally, any images taken of the level will undergo a large range of possible filters, with the most common causing the photo to appear low-quality. However, many other attainable filters may slightly alter the level image. Additionally, these filters may also alter how the level appears, such as removing all shadows from the image. Furthermore, Level 55 is believed to possess a phenomenon that isolates all living organisms from one another. Additionally, every electronic brought onto the level will immediately malfunction for unknown reasons. The most beneficial of these properties is the fact that wanderers cannot experience hunger or thirst during their time on the level.

Addendum: Recovered Note

⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⠀⠀Aimless Wanderings ⠀⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

Four days. It has been four days since my wanderings have led me here. The silence is deafening, and the endless monotony of white houses has engraved itself into my memories. I've spent hours staring into the abyssal sky, for there was nothing to do on this hillscape. I've called and yelled and screamed, but to no avail, for my cries go muffled by the suffocating air. I grow more insane by the minute. I find myself quietly mumbling to my soul in the houses. The buildings are the only safe havens on this level⎯mere breaks from the intolerable silence of the land.

And yet, I have not found a isolated place of more peace. Perhaps it's the silence. Perhaps it's the absence of life. Perhaps it's an internal feeling that drags me here. But I think this place shall be a good place of residence. An emotion of tranquility holds me in a state between reality and surrealism. It feels almost liminal. Is this what the blissful feeling of liminality feels like?

Does it feel like standing between the thin barrier that divides the tangible world and the fantastical world? What is this feeling that embraces me? Is it to be feared? Is it to be accepted? Oh, the sins of a complex mind!

And to this day, I remain in this level of silent houses, forever waiting for the hands of death to pull me into its warm clutches.

Oh, how fortunate I am to experience the wonders of liminality.

Entrances & Exits

The most common entrance to Level 55 is via a lime-colored door marked with a white house. These doors, however, manifest for a few minutes on random levels before disintegrating, thereby making this level rather difficult to access. The primary exit method is to simply find a lime-colored door that emits loud humming noises; opening this door will lead one to a random level. These exit doors often stand in the middle of a field and are attached to seemingly thin air. It should be noted that the level's structure is incredibly stable and, thus, cannot be noclipped into or out of.
