Level 580 during Day.
Level 580 is the 581st level of the Backrooms, functioning and resembling a near-infinite apartment block, it's main traversable area consisting of footbridges surrounding an open area in the middle, with seemingly no top or bottom discovered. This level's rooms can vary widely; from unfurnished, barren slums to fully furnished, functional living spaces. The accessibility of plumbing and electricity varies, with some faucets dispensing Almond Water, a clear tasteless liquid said to induce dehydration instead of staving it away, or nothing at all. Some apartments will have functional lights, switchless rooms or are completely devoid of light sources at all. Oddly enough, one of few consistent properties of these rooms are their furniture sets - industrial, monotone and geometric. Additionally, the contents of these room's cabinets, dressers and fridges will range between empty to completely filled, and stashing possessions within these compartments is recommended against due to it's unstable nature. As stated by graffiti and notes left around the many apartments, any items not already stored within will often disappear, unconfirmed theories suggest that this may be an aftereffect of this level's "stocking" cycles, as closed compartments will often restock themselves without any intervention from an outside source, human or otherwise.
Seasons/Day and Night
Level 580 is arguably more unique compared to it's counterparts due to the presence of "seasons", short periods of changes pertaining to temperature, lighting and general comfort and safeness of this level. While many others could very well exist, the most common of all the seasons are documented below, alongside the standard "day and night" constantly present no matter the season (while individual lengths may change depending on which season is in effect).
Day, the safer counterpart of the cycle, lasts for up to 6 hours and describes the period of time in which all the building's exterior lights are completely functional (albeit with some flickering). This is often the safest time for wanderers to leave their apartments and meet up, gather resources and move around. Entities are almost never present during day, and those that remain after Night often retreat into a door and seemingly vanish into thin air.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Night completes the 12-hour cycle of time within Level 580 and is much less safe then the bright Day. All exterior lights will dim to almost complete darkness, and it is highly recommended to retreat into a nearby apartment and lock the door, lest an Entity spot you. Entities during Night often take the form of various common Backroom natives, although the most common is Deathmoths, who utilize their ability of flight to traverse the large central gap of this level with ease.
Additionally, many report stiff-jointed humanoids (often nicknamed Bonies due to their visible ribs and thin limb structure) going door-to-door knocking and/or peeking through the peepholes in apartment doors attempting to enter. While it is unconfirmed if Bonies are present anywhere outside of Level 580, they are to be taken as a relatively easy threat to deal with, although harmful should a foolish wanderer not check who's behind the door. A widely accepted solution is to simply stay still and not respond or unlock the door, although shining a bright light (i.e a flashlight) through the peephole will entail the same effect of causing the lanky entity to wander off. They are often recognizable (even without looking through the peephole) via their irregular, slow knocking patterns or their pained and noisy exhales as they press their face against the door in an attempt to look inside. As stated previously, entities still in the halls during day will retreat to a nearby unoccupied room and vanish, while Deathmoths soar into the air at blisteringly fast speeds, presumably to a nest much farther up.
Alongside the day/night cycles, several seasons much unlike those in the Frontrooms often crop up, following no set pattern as to their occurrence and length. Below is a list of the commonly know seasons:
- "Normal", building is slightly below room temperature
- "Humid", humid and moist, tap water (no matter what liquid is dispensed) seems to reek of sulfur for unknown reasons.
- "Frigid", cold and bitter, lights are slightly dimmer then usual during day and nights are almost completely dark
- "Blackout", temperatures drop and lights shut off, plunging Level 580 into a darkness that can last for up to a week. Dangerous, as entities become agitated and will often seek out wanderers dozens of stories below, should they make the mistake of leaving.
- "Brightout", a respite from the Blackout which often occurs directly after one ends. For the equivalent of 2-3 days, there will be no night. Often used to recollect, regroup and restock lost provisions after a Blackout.
- "Fog", an odd season that only lasts for about a day or two. Lights will dim about halfway but night will not come, leaving only Male Deathmoths who will flutter about aimlessly. While visibility is scarce and risk of Bonies stumbling around is still present (although rare), this is often a good season to seek an exit to Level 580, as the stability and chance of 'noclipping' increase substantially during a Fog season.
- "Autumn", one of few seasons actually related to a real Frontrooms season. Lights will change to a dull orange hue and Bonies will become noisier, often emitting loud groans as they clump together, seemingly ignoring (or, at least, not directly attack) any wanderers in sight. Often characterized by cool temperatures.
Settlements
Lasting settlements cannot be made due to the infinite nature of Level 580. All attempts to create lasting, large settlements them have failed due to the cramped nature of many of the apartments and the general lack of landmarks within the level. However, small unnamed groups often form and survive together, collecting together furniture from neighboring rooms to create collective houses. The current amount of people living and groups formed within Level 580 is extremely hard to determine and, due to the vastness of the level, impossible to confirm.
However, one particular group has amassed a large amount of wanderers, often united under the ouroboros (due to both it and the level's infinite nature) symbol. This tag can be seen spray painted on or around doorframes to mark claimed territory, and the collective name given to these rooms are, simply, Ouroboros rooms. These rooms work around the inability to place supplies in storage compartments by simply leaving them out atop countertops and other flat surfaces, and, as such, often contain bountiful supplies should one fall under hardship. Additionally, through unknown means, the Ouroboros have devised a way to create and place candles outside their stashes, which are lit during Blackouts in order for wanderers to quickly locate and escape into them.
Entrances/Exits
Entering Level 580 is extremely simple, and has no true concrete "entrance". Simply walking through a particular door may allow entrance into Level 580, and exiting is similarly simple (although much more difficult to accomplish due to the unstable nature of shifting levels). Some theorize that Level 580's seasons often correspond with the level wanderers exiting will enter into (for example, exiting during a 'frigid' season would direct one to a cold, snowy level). This theory has not been proven as fact, although several strings of reports have led many to believe that seasons may have something to do with entering and leaving Level 580.
