Description

Level 597 is an infinite expanse of sulfuric wasteland consisting of geysers, hot springs, acid pools, hydrothermal springs, and an unbreathable atmosphere. Wanderers who initially enter Level 597 are subject to a sealed fate if they do not exit the level within two hours. An arm-length celestial body illuminates the entire level. Level 597 has few significant terrain variations, limited to large hydrothermic lakes.

Level 597 features an atmosphere unbreathable for humans; wanderers should be equipped with oxygen tanks to survive the toxic atmosphere. Without special respiratory apparatus, wanderers can only survive on the level for approximately two hours. Level 597's atmospheric composition is broadly unknown other than an estimated 9% oxygen and 3% argon, with the remaining 88% currently unknown.

The surface of Level 597 is home to a multitude of terrain features. The substance comprising most of the solid surface is yet to be determined; inferences from scientists believe it to be similar in composition to the yellow halls of Level 0, although there is no proof to back these claims. The average temperature of the surface of Level 597 is around 49°C (120.2°F) and peaks at 64.2°C (147.5°F). Due to the ludicrous temperatures, wanderers should refrain from using conventional footwear to traverse Level 597. When examined closely, steam rises from the surface, theorized to be a vapor form of Almond Water.

Liquids and fluids in Level 597 come mainly from hydrothermal pools composed of corrosive acid, able to devour wanderers in as little as two minutes. Some say it to be a variant of Liquid Pain, albeit less volatile and similar in viscosity to regular liquids and lacking the infamous blood red color, taking on a more bluish appearance.

Geysers are a common sight on Level 597's surface, although the eruptions of geysers are rare. The cause of geyser activity is currently unknown. The eruption rate of geysers is arbitrary, with no definite pattern, as in a given 50-meter (160ft) radius, there is no recorded geyser activity for days on end, while as many as four eruptions occur subsequently after one another in the span of a minute. The height of the eruptions also varies greatly. One geyser can spew liquids as far as 40 centimeters (1.3 feet), and another can do so for 35 meters (115 feet). The fluids spewed out by these geysers vaporize almost immediately after an eruption.

Another commonplace geological oddity within Level 597 are caves. These caves are too tiny for an average wanderer to squeeze in. These caves are usually humid and are commonly halfway filled with fluids, with some being fully submerged in fluid. The depth of the caves varies immensely, and their accurate dimensions are unmeasurable. The prevalence of acidic fluids and tight spaces prevent caves from being used as shelter, ultimately rendering them purposeless.

Prolonged lingering in Level 597 subjects wanderers to hallucinations. It is a byproduct of exposure to the unbreathable atmosphere. These hallucinations take the form of almost anything, but most commonly take the form of other wanderers. Attempting to approach the hallucinations or focusing one's vision on them makes the hallucinations tracelessly vanish. Not all wanderers within Level 597 experience hallucinations, and those with less sanity are more likely to hallucinate. Note that consuming 40 milliliters of Almond Water is potent enough to stop hallucinations.

Entities

A sizable hostile presence roams the sulfuric wasteland of Level 597. These include Clumps, Hounds, Skin-Stealers, Lighters, and Mercies. Stagnant liquid pools exist within the level and are home to the Hydrolitis Plague. Entities mainly reside in caves and don't leave their habitats unless needed, such as when provoked. Recent studies show that the Hydrolitis Plague is mutating into a new strain exclusive to Level 597, although this has yet to be confirmed. There have been two unconfirmed accounts of Blood Marrow in Level 597. If these two accounts are true, Level 597 will be the lowest numbered level known to harbor Blood Marrows.

Settlements

The nature of Level 597 renders human habitation unfeasible.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances[]

  • Entering a turquoise green door on Level 4.3, or Level 164 sends wanderers here.
  • Submerging oneself in a steaming turquoise green jacuzzi on either Level 30 or Level 330 sends wanderers here.
  • Coating a bullet in acid or Liquid Pain in Level 73 sends wanderers here.
  • Breaking a window on Level 28 can potentially send wanderers here.
  • Noclipping through a salt formation in Level 468.1 sends wanderers here.
  • Noclipping through the walls of one of Level 102's subs-sections very rarely leads here.

Exits[]

  • Hallucinating an airplane will send wanderers to Level 36 in a near-instant manner.
  • Random, yet exceedingly rare noclipping can send one to these levels listed below:
  • Jumping into a hole sends one to seldomly The Void.
  • Entering a blue cave sends one to The Blue Space.
    • Or, if the cave has faint blue illumination, the wanderer is sent to Level 699 instead.
