So, you are probably very confused right now, aren’t we? Well, sit back, relax, and enjoy as I tell you the whole story about the Zanetti train.

Let's start from the beginning, that is, from the Rome station. It is July 14th, 1911… Everyone on board!

Previous to that day, the Zanetti railway company had made an important advertising campaign for the maiden voyage of a new tourist train, consisting of the locomotive and 3 luxurious wagons, which would take passengers from the capital to Milan, passing through the spectacular campaigns of Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy. It should be noted that, between Emilia and Lombardy, the train had to go through a tunnel about one kilometer long which at the time was considered the longest tunnel ever dug in a mountain. An engineering prodigy, therefore. For the maiden voyage, Zanetti had selected 100 passengers from the local upper class and members of some families of the railway company. 6 other people accompanied them, including train drivers and on-board staff. Whistle from the Station Manager, and left the station.

The train moved slowly along its route to allow the elegant passengers to enjoy the view to the fullest while being entertained by violinist sonatas, tantalizing treats and champagne. Everything was going well and the journey was proving more than satisfactory and within a few hours the train arrived at the tunnel. There was a small crowd both at the entrance and at the exit to see the new train go through that prodigious tunnel (which had already been used by other trains previously). The train approached amid the exultation of those present and once it entered completely into the darkness of the mountain...

Description

61-3

An image of a train carriage on Level 61.

Level 61 is comprised of a series of interconnected train carriages. The length of Level 61 is very long, but not infinite. To get from one train carriage to another, one must jump between them, which is very risky as one has a chance of falling off the train and into the outside area. The train carriages themselves bear an eerie resemblance to the Italian train Zanetti, which disappeared in a tunnel in 1911. Most of the carriages are normal train carriages that consist of a pair of four seats facing each other. However, as one goes further into Level 61, some of the carriages are styled off of something that you wouldn’t normally see on a train, like an entire theater, a shopping mall, or an amusement park.

61-4

The area around Level 61’s outside area consists of a massive tunnel, which also bears an eerie resemblance to the Lombardy Tunnel, where the Zanetti train disappeared. The area is also covered in an odd, milky white fog. The fog is also thicker than usual, making it harder to breathe in and usually clouding the wanderer’s vision. When one steps out of the train and into the outside, they are never seen again, consumed by the milky white fog. When one disappears by stepping outside of Level 61, everything about that peculiar person is erased, and the memories of that person are erased too. Anyone who witnessed that person disappear will lose their memories of that person when they exit Level 61.

Memories are seemingly preserved within Level 61’s interior and can transfer to different individuals. When one enters the level, they will have sudden flashbacks and connections to Level 61, as if they have been there before. It is unknown why this happens, but some say that it happens because of the fog, which can store and transfer memories. Any pictures one takes on Level 61 will also undergo alterations, transforming into the last wanderer that was on the level. The pictures also become grayscale and more worn down, causing them to take on the appearance of a picture taken in the early 1900’s.

Areas

Level 61 is divided into multiple areas based on the safety and stability.

Economy Class

Economy Class is the first zone wanderers will spawn in on Level 61. The Economy Class section takes up most of Level 61 and consists of a series of vintage train cars connected with each other. These train cars consist of sets of three seats facing each other in each row. Unlike the other areas of Level 61, the Economy Class sections do not have bathrooms installed on the trains. The Economy Class areas also have no resources and no anomalous properties, which the rest of the areas have.

First Class

Unlike the Economy Class areas, the First Class areas are nicer and styled like a massive restaurant, with the seats having tablecloths on them. Entities called “servants” inhabit the level and serve massive plates of food onto the tables. The First-Class areas have a little-known phenomenon known as the “Grand Effect”. When one sits at the tables, the servers will put massive plates of food on them, which they feel compelled to eat. As soon as one finishes their meal, an anomalous state of drowsiness takes over, and soon enough they are fast asleep. One will be fast asleep until they expire, or if they are removed from the First Class areas, at which point they will have no recollection of them going into the First Class areas. Due to this effect, it is not recommended to go into the First-Class areas.

Some First Class cars might contain bathrooms. Bathrooms are an essential resource on Level 61, as they produce almond water from the sink and toilet. Some bathrooms contain private showers, which also serve as a reliable exit out of Level 61, though they are pretty rare to find. Any anomalous effects that originated from the other cars will immediately cease upon entering a bathroom.

Entertainment Cars

The next areas, the Entertainment Cars, are the most dangerous areas on Level 61. It is not recommended to go into an Entertainment Car, and if you are in one, get out of there as soon as possible. Entertainment Cars are cars that are styled like shopping malls, movie theaters, or casinos. Each type has an anomalous effect that will kill you sooner or later if you are stuck in there for too long.

61-6

Cars that are designed like a shopping mall have an anomalous ability to make anybody feel relaxed and comfortable, causing them to stick around and start shopping. Soon enough, one will get addicted to shopping. When this effect takes place, one’s body will undergo severe alterations. Their figure will begin to change into a new instance of the entity known as “The Cashiers,” which dominates shopping mall cars.

Cars that are designed like a movie theater have an anomalous ability to make anyone who enters them feel like they need to sit down on the seats, which they describe as “comfortable”. However, the movie theater seats are actually entities themselves. When one sits down on the seats, microfibers reach out and fuse one to the chair, making them unable to leave. From there, the movie will begin. The movie tends to be really graphic, disturbing, and very advanced for technology at the time. Once the movie is over, one will be consumed by the chair.

Cars that are designed like a casino have an anomalous ability to twist luck in the house’s favor. Machines will break down or bounce away from the jackpot in order to lose. Even though one always loses, they are always drawn to playing the games. The casino cars always creates some sort of drunken feeling and loose gambling. Unlike the other anomalous properties, the anomalies in the casino can be easily escaped.

The Engine

The Engine is the area in the front of Level 61. The Engine resembles a normal steam engine, except it seems to contain no steering wheel, seemingly driving itself. A stockpile of coal is at the front, yet the train seems to be running as if it had coal. Attempts to open the coal shaft is still ongoing.

The Caboose

61-7

An image of the Caboose

The Caboose is the last area of Level 61. It is accessible if you walk to the very back of the train. The Caboose is an open carriage with leather seats facing each other. The Caboose is mainly very shaky and jostling, and as a result, it can be very hard to stand up in the caboose. If one decides to step even further and go into the back balcony of Level 61, they will be thrown off the train and into the outside area, where they will be consumed by the fog.

The Multiple Trains Event

The Multiple Trains Event is a major event that happens in Level 61 from time to time. The event, just like their name says, is where two trains seemingly parallel each other on the track. One could go to the other train if they wanted, as the doors that are closest to each other will open. One will only have a thirty-second window to make the jump. Once this is over, the doors will close, and the other train will seemingly disappear into the fog.

Entities

The Passengers

The Passengers are passive entities that are on Level 61. The Passengers are ghost-like entities resembling humans. They appear to either be dressed in an expensive business suit or wear a very large dress. The passengers usually wander around Level 61, and they are discernible by the scared look on their faces. It is unknown why they are nervous.

The Cashiers

The Cashiers are humanoid entities that were transformed from humans that fell for the entertainment cars’ anomalous trap. The Cashiers can be described as “skinnier facelings” due to their appearance. They are also transparent like the Passengers, and they are very hostile.

The Servers

The Servers are the entities that inhabit the First Class Areas. They are also ghost-like entities, like the Passengers, but they are very hostile, and some say the Grand Effect in the areas is made by them. Once their victim expires, they will be dragged into the back kitchen, where they become the “food” for the next victim. When one tries to remove another from the first-class areas, they will be attacked and held back from retrieving them.

The Fog

Due to the nature of the Fog, it is assumed that the Fog is also an entity itself. There have been several cases where wanderers were apparently lured outside of Level 61 and consumed. The Fog seems to be able to lure wanderers outside of Level 61 and consume their memories. The Fog can also affect people outside of Level 61, where they will forget all the memories of that person.

Entrances

Finding a miniature train carriage on Level 60 will bring you to Level 61.

Level 61 is also accessible from Level 913 by boarding a vintage looking train. Once one is on board, they will pass out and wake up on Level 61.

This level can be accessed from the Orange line of Station 154.

Exits

Nocliping through a door lit with neon lights in an entertainment car will take you to Level 399, though it is pretty rare to find.

Sitting in a worn out chair will take you to Level 62.

Talking to a Passenger in Chinese will take you to Level 909.

I was on the vintage train that is Level 61 when I stumbled on a glowing ball-looking thing on one of the seats. I was very curious what it was, so I touched it. As soon as I did, it enveloped me with a quick burst of light and swallowed me whole. When I woke up, I was on a train, the Same train that was Level 61. But something was different; there were people. People In expensive business suits, people in large dresses, it all looked familiar—too familiar.

As I looked outside the windows, I saw that we were going through mountains, and there was no fog. It was a nice, sunny, sunny day. I was stunned at the environment outside. But then the train was approaching the inside of a tunnel, and a crowd of people had gathered around to see it. The events looked very familiar. As we entered the tunnel, things seemed normal until... .. It happened.

A white, milky fog began to envelop the train. I watched as two people jumped out of the train. I did not know what was going on until I saw it. People were screaming as the fog enveloped them. They began to pass out, one by one. Of course, I wasn’t affected since I was seeing everything through a vision, but people were suffocating and dying. The fog was consuming them, the train, everything.

And then I was back, inside the vintage train cars that were on Level 61. I then realized everything. It was the same explanation as the mysterious Zanetti tourist train disappearance in 1911. The fog that enveloped the train was the same as on Level 61. Because of this, I think that Level 61 is the Zanetti train, and the fog pulled it into the Backrooms and made it into a level.
