Level 655 is the 656th level of the Backrooms. It is as of right now an unconfirmed level. If you noclip from this level you will go to Level ∞/1

Survival Class: Varied

Unsafe

Unsecure

Description

Level 655 is an abandoned endless wooden staircase. presumably set within an mineshaft. The first floor, the bottom floor, is coated with an unknown element. Inspection of this element has shown it to be a mixture of concrete, sand, dirt, mud, and Almondium. There is no doorway at Level 655s entrance- rather, a door-shaped hole is the replacement for it instead. (Was there a door before or..?)

A few steps inside Level 655 is a wooden staircase. While at first, the wood used to make the staircase is virtually soundless, it will get more and more creaky as you walk up. There are about 655 steps on the staircase. While it doesn’t go on forever, it goes on for quite a long time. After the 100th floorboard, doors will begin to appear, to the left, right, or even on the floorboards themselves. Sometimes doors will be invisible/look like walls, but the moment you even go near them, you instantly are teleported to another unknown and undiscovered level. For every 100th floorboard, there is a stage.

Stage 1 (1-100 steps)

Your typical wooden staircase. While this stage is Safe, it’s not recommended to stay here for too long, as the effects of starvation and dehydration will begin to take its toll on you if you take longer than 3 weeks to complete it. Stage 1s walls seem to have rust growing all over it, even though the walls are made of frozen dirt and mud. There is a 50/50 chance Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” will begin to play when one enters this stage, even though there is virtually no technology in this stage, and certainly not technology advanced enough to play music. While this stage is the least anomalous out of the others, it has an infamous tendency to rise to temperatures as hot as 38 Celsius/101 Fahrenheit. The entrance, however, is a little more hotter, reaching temperatures of 40 Celsius/103 Fahrenheit.

Stage 2 (100-200 steps)

After the 100th floorboard, the floorboards will progressively get more and more rusty until the 120th floorboard, which at that point becomes complete metal. The walls in Stage 2 are also made out of Frontrooms metal. The metal in Stage 2 appears to be anti-corrosive, but not fire-proof, as this Stages staircase has started burning up whenever Stage 1 rises to extremely hot temperatures. If this happens, traverse Stage 2 as fast as you can. There has been burned corpses found behind recognition, scattered across Stage 2s staircase, because they did not traverse the Stage fast enough.

Stage 3(200-300 steps)

The metal will begin to fade away around the 200th step. Around the 210th step, the walls and floors will once again have their usual rust from Stage 1. 10 more steps in, and Stage 3 looks exactly like Stage 1s staircase once again, but the floorboards are extremely creaky. Doors are randomly teleported on walls, on the stairs themselves, in front of a subject, or even worse, in the Subject. Understandably. Subjects who have had these doors replace their internal organs have almost died within seconds. (Not to worry; doors appearing in you are rare. The most common occurrence is for a door to appear on the wall.)

However, around the 250th step, the Subject will begin to walk on a high-end, luxurious red plush carpet staircase. The walls will shed their rust and become marble, and windows will start appearing on walls and ceilings. Sometimes, fake sunshine is even filtered through the windows and onto the staircases. However, there will be an insanely loud buzzing that sounds more like a hive of bees than the air conditioner buzzing located within Level 0. However, no bees have been found in Stage 3.

Stage 4(300-400 steps)

The walls turn to porcelain tiles. The staircase wood morphs into marble. A rusty, falling-apart safety railing will appear around the 302nd step and become stainless steel at the 305th step. Windows start appearing as well. You may see technology now appear- such as an intercom, radio, computer, or even a tablet, all glued on the narrow, closing-in walls of Stage 4. Do not use these technologies. They are traps to teleport you to different stages- for instance, a radio could send you all the way to a flaming Stage 2, or a tablet could send you right in the sights of an irritated, angsty Skin-Stealer. Simply keep walking up the staircase without looking back- if the walls call of a sudden, begin to close in/actively move to crush you, just keep walking. Do not stop walking. There are no hostile entities (surprisingly) within this level, rather, you get teleported to one.

Stage 5(400-500 steps)

Rainbow Christmas lights and decorations start appearing on the walls and railing. The railing morphs into solid gold. The staircase marble seems to be sprinkled with glitter at this level. The ceiling will have various Christmas-related murals on it, such as depictions of Santa Claus and Ms. Claus, Ruldoph, a Christmas Tree, and on some occasions, Jesus Christ. Cookies and presents will be glued upside down on the ceiling, with the traditional, but infamous hum-buzz of Level 0. This hum-buzz will get steadily louder and louder as you walk up. Touching anything Christmas-related in this level will send you to the Void or Level !. This is also the smallest Stage- Staircase steps are a measly 5cm and require you to tip toe to be able to walk. The railing bars are only 1 inch away from each other- presumably to stop the Subject from escaping by jumping off the railing. Around the end of Stage 5, the walls will all of a sudden, narrow in. The walls are also decorated with various Christmas decorations such as Lights, Presents, and Drawinfs depicting Christmas traditions. Even bumping into these decorations by accident will send you to the Void strictly.

Stage 6(600-655 steps)

This is the last stage recorded. The Christmas lights and decorations disappear, coated over with white paint. The staircase steps will become extremely unstable and creaky- Subjects have been seen tripping on a Stage 6 staircase and falling all the way down to Stage 1- or even worse, a flaming Stage 2. The best thing to do is to walk lightly, but to also walk like you’re walking away from hell itself. The ceiling will become white, the walls will become clean and white, basically everything expect the railing will become white because the railing will disappear during this Stage. After the 655th step, there is one final door (all-white) that you must open. The last step will fall if pressure is applied to it for more than 3 seconds- so you must open the door and get out to Level 656 as fast as you can.

How to Enter and Exit

It is possible to enter by wandering for a long time in Level 11. After walking from anywhere to [[1]] miles, it is possible to find a small, deserted area with sand everywhere with a wooden building at the center, where this level can be entered. To exit, walk back out through the entrance door to return to Level 11.

Exits

  • Fall off Stage 11 or 12 to fall into Level 600
  • Finish going up the steps, open the door in Stage 6, and walk in to enter into Level 656.
  • Touch a Christmas decoration in Stage 5 to enter the Void/Level !. (50/50 chance for each)
