Level 67 is the 68th level of the backrooms.
General Description
““Level 67 is definitely what I’d consider a strange case when it comes to levels. Although it seems like a foggy and stagnant harbor at first glance, many things make this place rather mysterious. Despite only being recently discovered in 2016, we’ve been trying to study it as best as we can.”
— D. Žylinski, Spacial Exploration Organization Researcher.
Level 67 is best described as a heavily misty harbor that takes place sometime early in the morning. The harbor appears to be very large, as several expeditions have shown no barriers in either direction. The area is trashed, with abandoned boats and other metal objects lying around all over, indicating abandonment from a long time ago. Since the level seems to lack any life forms, it is currently unknown why the level is in a state of disrepair. Despite the rundown nature of Level 67, lights scattered throughout the vicinity still seem to function, likely due to an anomalous source.
Level 67 has a gravitational acceleration of roughly 33.7 ft/s2, which is slightly higher than Earth’s. Due to the high gravity present in the area, the water surrounding the harbor is stagnant. The water is also known to be particularly unclean and to host bacteria similar in nature to the Hydrolitis Plague. Attempts to transport across the waters have failed several times, with the boats and other vehicles not being able to work.
It’s been known that Level 67 lacks a day and night cycle, as the sky and environment tend to stay the same over several months. Since no sun or stellar objects have been recognized to appear in the sky of Level 67, it is speculated that light comes entirely from the lights that are found throughout the harbor. Although stellar objects have yet to be confirmed, it is thought that a ubiquitous light source exists in the sky. The reasoning behind this is that simple lights are not capable of lighting up a sky to such a degree. Level 67 is affected by Alone, making studying Level 67 a tedious task, as several instruments and people are required to accurately study the level.
The fog present in Level 67 consists of an odd compound that causes anxiety if exposed to it for over an hour. Because of the fog’s effects, it is not recommended to stay here for extended periods unless such stays are for research purposes. If one persists in staying here after being exposed to the compound for a few hours, their sanity will begin to diminish due to constant paranoia.
The temperature in Level 67 typically stays at around 60°F (15.55°C), with occasional increases in temperature every few days. It’s currently being investigated why the increases happen, though it remains unknown. The temperature, although cool, is counterbalanced by the level's high humidity due to its setting near the ocean.
"Morning Dawn" Areas
"Morning Dawn" areas are locations in Level 67 have a more orange sky in contrast to the dark blue skies present everywhere else. Strangely, morning dawn areas seem to have older buildings and boats, unlike other places, for unknown reasons. Although these boats seem to have less damage, it is still nearly impossible to use them as a way to transport across the seas. The majority of the morning dawn locations are isolated from the rest of Level 67, with only a few connecting through bridges or metal structures. It's tough to examine and study them because they're so isolated. Furthermore, they are extremely rare. This ultimately makes them hard and obscure to find, making them not a high priority when it comes to exploring.
The first-morning dawn area was discovered on January 4th, 2020, by S.E.O. explorer I. Frank when he reported an area with older boats and brighter skies in Level 67. When observed, the area seemed to be disconnected from the main dock, and the place had an orange atmosphere. Since the discovery of the first-morning dawn area, four more have been discovered and have been given certain designations. For instance, the first-morning dawn area is designated “67M-I.” The “67” is the level’s number; the “M” symbolizes that it’s a morning dawn area; and the “I” signifies it’s the first to be discovered. A list of known morning dawn areas is provided below with their respective discovery dates:
- 67M-I: January 4, 2020
- 67M-II: July 19, 2020
- 67M-III: May 24, 2021
- 67M-IV: February 16, 2022
- 67M-V: December 21, 2022
- 67M-VI: November 26, 2023
- 67M-VII: April 6, 2024
- 67M-VIII: October 31, 2024
Hazards
Level 67 has no known entities due to its spacious and not ideal environment for entities, meaning they’re impossible to find in Level 67. Howbeit, there are two known anomalies present in Level 67 with an undefined cause. Due to this, they’re currently under heavy study by the S.E.O.
The gravitational shift anomaly is an odd anomaly present in Level 67, where the gravity subtly increases or decreases due to the unstable gravitational force that Level 67 emits. Because of these subtle changes in gravity, wanderers may feel dizzy after staying for a prolonged period. Until recently, it was initially thought that staying in Level 67 for extended periods would cause dizziness until the S.E.O. began studying their strange phenomenon. After discovering that it was caused by mild gravitational shifts, it was eventually classified as an anomaly.
The broken wood anomaly is another well-known anomaly in Level 67, in which the wood present on the docks randomly cracks and breaks in certain areas. Since the docks are made of mahogany, which is notoriously strong wood, it’s unknown why the dock randomly breaks. It’s been suggested that it’s due to the pressure, though no large amounts of pressure have been detected in Level 67. Because of this odd property, this phenomenon has been classified as an anomaly.
Addendum
Levels like these may be rare, but not all "rare" levels are safe. It reminds me of a distant memory of being lost and isolated, as this place is also vast and open compared to that cave I was in. I’m not sure what this place is exactly, but whatever it is, I want to know more. It seems like this place is more than a harbor—an odd enigma.
“2017” is written on the back, indicating it was written in that year.
Thresholds
Entrances
- Certain tunnels in Level 39
that blend with the level’s waterwaysmight lead you to Level 67. - Corridors in Level 73 have an uncertain chance of being sent somewhere here.
- Descending a staircase in Level 268 might send one here.
Exits
- Level 71 can be entered by entering certain doors and hatches found throughout the harbor.
- There is a chance then entering and leaving a ship could lead one to Level 375.
- Various levels can be accessed by certain noclipping techniques.
