Basic Description
Level 71857, also known as ‘Greg’s Paddock’, is a 50x50m (164x164ft) enclosure on a flat plain of short dead grass, with steel wire fences 10m (32.8ft) high. These fences cannot be broken, bent, or changed in any way. Outside of the fences a bland normal landscape can be seen, no structures or signs of life such as plants or animals (apart from dead grass) appear to be in this area, just rolling hills. The temperature stays at roughly 13Co(54.4Fo), these natural conditions of the level never change, it is always in a winter climate.
Wanderers that come into this level will be spawned next to a gate that is to the height scale of the fences and is also unbreakable like the fences. Opposite the gate, right at the other end of the enclosure, is a metal barnhouse with a tin roof. The barnhouse has no windows, and is littered with pieces of yellow straw and brown animal faeces.
The Entity, Greg
There is a steel door in the barn house that is unlocked and leads to a small dark room with a concrete floor, in this room there is a steel container (similar to a trash can) that is filled with pellets, there is a laminated sticker stuck to the container that the name ‘GREG’ is written on. Upon opening this container, a black and white goat entity (supposedly named Greg) will be immediately summoned, and will promptly storm the small room. It will desperately try to eat the pellets and will not care about the wanderer.
Greg will be very hostile for roughly 10 to 20 minutes after finishing the pellets (or if the wanderer simply closes the container while he is eating). Greg is easy to fend off and will very rarely charge, Greg simply threatens and headbutts the wanderer. However it is advised not to attempt to seriously harm Greg, as wanderers who have gone into Greg’s level with the intention to do so were never seen again after entry, and with the added risk that by killing him the wanderer will be trapped on the level indefinitely.
The Sketch of Greg
After the period of hostility, Greg will calm and become a neutral entity that is very easy to provoke. Greg cannot be tamed however, many people have tried this and failed. Greg at some points may even display friendliness. Sketches have been drawn of him, detailing a black, wooly goat with patches of white on it’s face and amber eyes. Due to his neutral yet sometimes unpredictable behaviour, wanderers are advised to keep their guard up when interacting with Greg.
There are two alternatives ways to summon Greg, the second way is to take a photo at any point in the level, if a photo is taken while Greg is active, he will not let the wanderer leave until the camera and image have been destroyed by him. If Greg has not been summoned while a photo is taken, he will appear behind the wanderer and immediately repeat the same process of dismantling the camera and ruining the image as if he was always active, if the wanderer is backed up to the corner of the enclosure, Greg will emerge from the small room in the shed and charge at the wanderer. There seems to be no way to view Greg actually spawning into the level.
A third way to summon Greg is also available, any attempts to climb the fences or the gates will immediately summon Greg below the wanderer once they are halfway through the climb. Greg will begin climbing at a rapid speed to stop the wanderer, he will pull them down by biting at their feet, and the more the wanderer fights back, the more aggressive he becomes. It is noted by climbers who have neared the top of the fence that many black humanoid shapes will begin hastily approaching the paddock from all sides once a certain height is passed.
This occurrence leads to the theory that Greg is only trying to protect the wanderer from these figures, and why he himself does not leave. M.E.G. believes that Greg welcomes visitors but prefers to have none, this explains his neutral/hostile behaviour and him letting the wanderer leave at any point while neutral.
Greg seems to have complete control of the enclosure he is in. He has been witnessed doing things such as reviving and growing the grass at will in order to eat it, or teleporting the wanderer to either level 0, 1, 4, or 10 at their request, it is unknown whether he can take wanderers to other levels apart from these ones, but asking for any other level has been unsuccessful. The extent of the control Greg has over the seemingly infinite, dead, hilly fields is debated, for example, some believe that the black humanoid figures are his own creation as a way of enclosure security, others say that they are something that is a threat to him.
Level Resets
Once the wanderer visiting Level 71857 leaves, it returns to it’s state when they first entered. The container will be refilled and closed, the door will be shut, and Greg will despawn. It is theorised that if an alternative exit is found to this level, it may be possible to bypass this reset and maybe even bring Greg to another level, however this is not pursued very much due to the fact that Greg becomes hostile when him leaving the level or enclosure is suggested. Along with the fact that he cannot be tamed.
