Survival Difficulty: Class 4
》Unsafe
》Unsecure
》High Entity Count

This is a photo of the "sun", the photographer is missing. According to wanderers, the "sun" is always staring at you.

Level 78 is the 79th level of the backrooms. It is strongly suggested not to enter Level 78, since it is infamous for its ability to deceive wanderers into thinking it is secure. Level 78 is described as a strange and warped grassy planet suspended in an endless expanse of blue skies, that is sparsely populated by individual suburban buildings, structures, and strange mushroom-like entities.

Description

You will usually start off in a room with a light blue floor and marble walls that is full of mushroom structures. If you stay in this chamber for too long, the mushrooms will develop human-like eyes. Most wanderers will become disoriented as a result, and they will feel compelled to flee as quickly as possible. When you leave this section of the level, things start to get strange: houses look fake, the "sun" randomly disappears and reappears, but when it disappears, everything is still lighted up as if the sun never went away, floating eyes appear and disappear for no reason, and the sky will occasionally turn into an eye for a split second. The last section of the level will be a void with a checkerboard floor and mushrooms with eyes on them; according to wanderers who have exited the level, the mushrooms appear to be "talking to you psychologically." The mushrooms will say things like "you're not real," "nothing is real," and "wake up." Most people will enter this section by attempted no-clipping while others could enter by entering houses, and once they do, they will automatically have the feeling to run as fast as possible.

For an unknown reason, if you take photos of this level, some of the photos will have text on them.

Entities

This is a photo of the entity.

Shrooms

Shrooms are beings that can sprout from any sort of ground, including grass, concrete, and glass. Observing the creature for more than a few minutes will cause the Shrooms to develop eyeballs, then they'll spray you with green acid, which will most certainly cause you to pass out and land you in the beginning of the level again. The acid they spray is alien, and it has severe psychological consequences on those who are exposed to it.

More Facts About The Entity

  • Shrooms cannot move.

The Smile Killer

This is an attempted photo of The Smile Killer, the photographer is dead.

The Smile Killer is a towering figure with a huge knife in its hand. This monster follows wanderers around the level and stabs them when the moment is appropriate. It is uncertain if the Smile Killer is a real entity or not because it wears a mask and continuously prevents people from removing it. The Smile Killer is incredibly quiet, which allows it to easily murder wanderers.

Possible Lore

The Smile Killer is typically depicted as a person wearing a mask with a happy face on it. Everyone who has encountered it has hypothesized that the Smile Killer is a wanderer who has gone mad, however this cannot be true because everyone who has gone insane in this level has either committed suicide or been murdered by an entity.

More Facts About The Entity

  • The Smile Killer is unobtrusive.
  • Fortunately, the Smile Killer is deaf in one ear.

The Eyes

The Eyes are psychological entities that solely attack mentally stable wanderers. They will appear for a fraction of a second before disappearing. These entities will only begin to appear as a wanderer nears the end of the level. They will only stop attacking you if you start to lose your sanity. There isn't a lot of information available concerning the eyes.

More Information about The Eyes

  • If you try to attack an Eye, it wont be effective, and it will most likely spawn a swarm of eyes to come after you
  • Taking a picture of an Eye is nearly impossible.
  • There are some instances that the Eyes will have angel wings, but that has been rarely seen.

The "Sun"

This is a depiction of the sun, this is not the actual entity.

The "sun" is an entity in the sky with a smile on its face. The "sun" looks oddly colored, almost like a jumbled mess of code with a smiling face overlaid on top. Although this entity isn't hostile, it's strongly suggested that you don't gaze at it since it will blind you and all you'll be able to see is a jumbled mass of code.

More facts about The Entity

  • The "sun" is always glaring at you, directly at you.

Colonies and Outposts

Making a colony or an outpost is impossible due to the fact that this level is highly difficult to survive in.

Entrances and Exits

This is a photo of someone going through the 1st tunnel in this level.

Entrances

  • This is tough to describe, but you must sleep on any level and will remain on that level while dreaming. You will be exploring this level in your dream, and you will not be able to wake up until you depart; if you die in your dream, you will die in real life. When you wake up, you will be on the same level that you are intended to be on as well as when you leave this level when you are not dreaming.
  • Entity 74 in Level Corrupt has a 21/79 chance of sending you to this level if you are killed by it.
  • There is a potential that you may find two tunnels in the underground tunnel in Level •, and travelling down the first tunnel will always send you here. What happens to those that enter the second tunnel is unclear.

Exits

  • The most typical route to escape this level is through the door at the level's end. This will take you to Level 2000.
  • In other cases, entering the door will transport you to Level 45.
  • Level 243 may be reached via opening a door to a mushroom-shaped dwelling.
