Level 84 is the 85th level of the Backrooms.
There is exceptionally little space, or none, for individuals who desire to wander through the seemingly never-ending alleyways of Level 84, composed of an assortment of establishments crammed together in an unconventional arrangement. Level 84 is home to an eclectic collection of institutions, ranging from minuscule dining establishments to barbershops and restaurants. The structures are primarily made up of forty-story skyscrapers and neoclassic residences. It separates into collections of identifiable fractals from an elevated standpoint. The convoluted nature of Level 84 is forged thanks to the bizarre yet distinct connections it establishes amongst those fractals, which aren't significantly different from the types of constructions previously exhibited.
The streets on Level 84 are built illogically, with perplexing and non-Euclidean geometry. Many routes return to their initial location without wanderers traversing on them noticing. Traffic lights are also present on the streets; they appear to operate correctly, but the lack of controlled cars renders them completely meaningless.
As it's commonly found within the Backrooms, Level 84's linear space differs drastically in comparison to that of The Frontrooms. Architectural structures appear to possess non-Euclidean geometry when they are linked together by non-intuitive space in certain portions of the level. The level encompasses the ability to change at undetermined intervals, making accurately mapping the level exceedingly difficult. This effectively turns the level into a labyrinth and makes it very difficult for navigation systems to find their way around.
The standard operating temperature of Level 84 is estimated to be approximately 32°C (90°F), though it fluctuates frequently. 45°C (113°F) is the hottest temperature that has been measured, while roughly -3°C (26.6°F) is the lowest. The sky is one of the numerous ways that temperature alters the physical appearance of the level. In regions with lower temperatures, the sky is white, while in warmer climates, it is blue.
Level 84's narrow alleyways are occasionally engulfed in a dense, white fog. The fog is so exceedingly powerful that it has been referred to as "The Great Fog" by explorers due to it severely decreasing ones vision and obscuring views beyond ~7m. While some explorers have claimed that the fog lasts for several days, The Great Fog typically lasts around three hours.
The vast majority of the structures situated on the level appear to be completely furnished, although a number of the buildings' edifices are somewhat damaged. Typically, their interiors include the most ordinary furnishings, such as mattresses, couches, chairs, dining tables, paintings, posters, and photos on the walls. Although there is no electricity throughout all of the buildings, a number of the apartments contain televisions, personal computers, and mobile telephones. On the other hand, an overwhelming number of structures don't have apparent entryways or are locked. Within the buildings, accommodations might exhibit identical appearances in multiple residences but differ in terms of furnishings. Most notably, there are no lighting fixtures throughout any of the structures. The buildings can contain lights or light bulbs in them; however, no individual has previously reported them functioning successfully. Flashlights, phone lights, and numerous other comparable gadgets will cease functioning and shut off instantaneously.
A handful of the apartment buildings appear to possess basement entrances; however, this has not been officially verified. These basement entrances lead to often empty subterranean compartments. It has been observed that certain basements seem to be flooded with Cashew Water, which is often contaminated with bacteria and is not recommended to be swallowed. It has been reported by wanderers that shortly after ingesting the Cashew Water, their thirst intensified.
The Volcano on Level 84
A 32 kilometer-tall brown volcano with more than 51 million cubic kilometers of material inside of it is the only structure on the level that remains immobile. The volcano is stationed on an isolated, uninhabited, and exceedingly miniature island that is disconnected from all other parts of the level. Notably, the volcano seems to have emerged out of nowhere; the origin of the volcano is entirely undetermined, and a few of the individuals who first discovered Level 84 stated that they failed to notice the volcano while exploring. Even though it wasn't nearly at its full destructive capacity when the level was identified, reports indicate that it has exploded a number of times since then.
I've researched, noted, and explored through the whole level without finding a single drop of water. Worst thing is, I don't even have a jacket, so I just have to live in these freezing alleyways. I broke a door with my leg and found a staircase leading to a "basement" of sorts; that didn't help me either. The whole place was flooded with dirty water. I'd rather starve than contract the millions of diseases that thing most likely contains.
If you're reading this, honestly, I'm probably already 12 feet deep in the underground. Send help, if you can. You're probably gonna die of hypothermia while reading all of this, so I'd recommend helping yourself first.

Entities are fairly uncommon in Level 84, nonetheless they still pose a threat to wanderers exploring the level.
- Facelings
- Hounds
- Deathmoths
While Level 84 is safe and sizeable enough to host major colonies and/or outposts, there is only one notable community which permanently resides within the level.
Érico's Diner is the primary and most prominent colony on Level 84. The colony is governed by an individual that goes by "Érico". It is located within a large restaurant between two buildings with neon signs pointing to the restaurant's location.
- Érico will feed and shelter hungry wanderers.
- Do not ask him to allow you in. Being aggressive reduces your chances of acceptance.
- Érico will force individuals out of the diner after a specific amount of time has passed, unless they are extremely significant to the colony (food providers, cleaners, guards et cetera.).
- The diner gets attacked frequently by entities, specifically hungry hounds which can smell food being cooked inside of the establishment.
- There are around 10 permanent members.
- Finding a part of the city in Level 11 where the buildings are closer than normal will lead one here.
- Entering the outflow of one of the pools in Level 30 will lead one to this level.
- Walking near a bulk of stiffly placed and tall concrete buildings within Level 83 will lead to one getting knocked out and waking up inside of a housing structure.
- Entering destroyed basement doors in Level 9 can lead here.
- One of the few confirmed exits is a pure white, slightly translucent building, which upon entry will bring you to Level 85.
- Enclosed areas will transport one to Level 198.
- Dark red hallways within certain buildings have a slight chance of transporting one to Level 410.

Anyways, the air feels much thicker and it is significantly warmer than before, definitely hotter than the 32°C mentioned on the article. I've also heard a few noises coming from the volcano, or at least the same direction as the volcano.
Notably, the entities have seemingly became more dangerous. I am not sure if my luck isn't good, although everyone (except humans, of course) attempted to attack me. This could possibly warrant the level going from a Survival Difficulty 3 to a Survival Difficulty 4
Furthermore, we've also noticed a few changes in the architecture of certain buildings. They appear more worn and weathered, and there are weird markings on the walls. Some of the structures even look to have caught on fire, considering the severity of everything aforementioned.
In addition, there are random sounds that come from nowhere. There's a constant hum in the air, which is accompanied by unusual vibrations. It's difficult to pinpoint the source, though we speculate that it comes deep within the level's underground.
May you look into what I've mentioned and provide more information?

Regarding the increased temperature, atmospheric shifts and the sounds from the volcano, these are concerning things. I'll initiate an investigation with my group and document the changes to make the article have more up to date information.
Thank you for your dedication to the exploration and documentation of the backrooms.
The sun rises again. This time, in an unexpected way, as the dystopian future was right in front of the eyes of the explorers in Level 84, carbon dioxide spread quickly through the buildings of the area. The first incident wasn't enough of a warning, as buildings close to the volcano functioned as shelter for some.
Moments later, the first clouds started to form. The horizon was tenebrous. Level 84 was soon to be only ruins. Soon enough, magma also started to come to the surface, establishing the beginning of the end of Level 84, as it was known. Of course, magma alone isn't enough to destroy a level, but what comes along with it surely is.
As pressure kept building up, the future of the city was starting to get worse by the second. Hours later, the first tephras started to glide through the level, demolishing whatever they landed on. Some of the most extreme ones were bigger than the houses settled there. As it thumped on the bigger buildings, many of them collapsed, causing a domino effect.
The gases were soon dispersed all through Level 84. The concentration levels of CO2 in the atmosphere were estimated to be higher than 20%, which is enough to kill an average person. The sharp shadows could be seen all around the area. No shelter on the surface was safe. The only escape had existed for years, although it had not been explored by the majority of the wanderers.
Level 84 is the 85th level of the Backrooms.
Level 84-A occurs following what appears to have been a post-apocalyptic surface incident. The extraordinary volumes of tephra that flew over the level when the volcano erupted destroyed most of the structures. There is only a single refuge beneath the known city of the homogeneous skyline because of the high temperatures and carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere that render the existing version of the location uninhabitable.
Underneath the city of Level 84-B, far beneath the surface and reachable by several buildings dispersed over the outer limits of the region, is a bunker that is ever-expanding. The shelter mimics typical suburban structures, including swimming pools, dining establishments, salons, and shopping centers. The traditional cycle of day and night is replaced with cold, white lights that are permanently running. The 'residences,' on the contrary, appear to have been pre-programmed by the level's intelligent architecture to control the Circadian cycle through a predetermined on-off mechanism. The entrances to the city have been sealed by the bunker's automatic organizing system and massive boulders.
The residential buildings are composed of the standard rooms seen in households across the United States of America
The following rooms are located within the homes:
- Hallways.
- Living rooms.
- Bedrooms for kids.
- Master bedrooms.
- Kitchens.
- Dining areas.
- Restrooms.
- Laundry areas.
- Personal offices.
- Garages.
- Terraces.
- Attics.
- Basements.
- Entryways.
- Pantries.
A small number of buildings within the level possess garage-like areas. There is a remote probability that the garages house automobiles, motorbikes, scooters, or bicycles. Each vehicle is unique in terms of its age, appearance, and functionality. While some can't even be turned on, others are fully operational.
Rarely, one may come across a picture or painting on the walls. They typically show serene, vacant landscapes, although they can also show a city-like atmosphere akin to the one found in Level 84 before the volcano erupted.
The vast majority of the level's characteristics are either artificial, like the grass that lies between the buildings, the rocks that were used to construct the majority of the structures, and the plants that act as decorations, or automated, like the floor and walls that are continually apparent to be clean and the food that is constantly being refilled, even though there doesn't seem to be any staff on duty throughout the level. The level's outside portions are all shielded from the bunker.
Three main entities inhabit Level 84.
- Facelings
- Clumps
- Shadow Figures
Despite the fact that Level 84-A has received reports from several groups of upwards of ten individuals, none of these have been well recorded to be verified as official colonies or outposts.
The bunker of Level 84-A had existed before the volcano's eruption. Due to the decent amount of safety within the city, the bunker was overlooked. When the Volcano Event happened, only then was the bunker seen as notable.
- Rarely a bulk of stiffly placed and tall concrete buildings can be spotted in the horizon of Level 83. Walking towards this bulk of buildings for a while will eventually cause the wanderer to be knocked out and the wanderer will wake up in Level 84-As bunker.
- Entering the outflow of one of the pools in Level 30 will lead one to this level.
- Noclipping anywhere except for the ground in the bunker will transport the wanderer to Level 85.
Is this really the life you always dreamed for?
Routine business guides all ways it was revealed of
Years and years wandering, only doomed and consumed,
fake realities are around, wounds don't improve
Groove with death, like Durden at the end of the movie
These burdens are hurting, one hasn't enjoyed truly
The gloomy days don't even shine a bit anymore
Surface; only tephras
Locked in a shelter
Is that what is wished for?
Level 84 is the 85th level of the Backrooms.
Level 84-B, previously known as simply Level 84, is a level that occurs following what was a seemingly post-apocalyptic incident involving the level's volcano erupting. The eruption caused a massive quantity of carbon dioxide and magma to spread across the level, thus making the city completely uninhabitable. While the magma is slowly disappearing, the city is still dangerous due to the sheer instability of the buildings and the slight amount of carbon dioxide that still inhabits the level.
Level 84-B, frequently referred to as "Homogenous Skyline," takes the appearance of a rather large landscape with most of its landmass being covered by an expansive city featuring Soviet-style architecture. Despite this, all dates display a year between 2010 and 2015. Level 84 encompasses an expansive variety of structures, including 40-50 level skyscrapers, hospitals, restaurants, and shopping centers. The city, similarly to many other levels in The Backrooms, possesses largely confusing and non-Euclidean geometry. Structures on the level are arranged randomly, with some structures even no-clipping through the others.
The volcano's eruption has significantly affected the majority of the level's area, rendering it unpredictable and unreliable. Parts of the structures are extremely unstable, regularly collapsing and lethally injuring wanderers affected by the fall. Additionally, while the city has an abandoned-like appearance, there are numerous signs that indicate that there was once life inside it, such as graffiti, writing on walls, diaries (particularly within schools), and so on...
Another characteristic of the level that heightens its danger are the extremely high carbon monoxide levels. Carbon monoxide-rich areas should be avoided at all costs, as when it comes into contact with the human body, it replaces the oxygen in red blood cells with itself. This can cause dizziness, migraines, chest discomfort, and, in some situations, even death.
Most buildings' interiors are hauntingly vacant, however one might occasionally come across an appropriately or even fully furnished edifice. The furniture found within the buildings differs corresponding to the structure's function; hospitals include medical equipment, office buildings hold various non-functioning computers, et cetera. Due to there being no furniture in some of the structures, their purposes are undetermined, and some are theorized to have no purpose at all.
Confusingly arranged winding asphalt roads connect all of the level's buildings. They appear to have illogical placements, as they often loop and lead wanderers to nowhere. Additionally, Level 84-B includes numerous traffic lights that continually flicker and change color at random intervals. There are many traffic signs located on the roads, which are theorized to be "randomly generated," most likely because they appear out of place and do not correlate with what is located on the roads.
Level 84-B lacks a traditional day-and-night cycle, instead being set in a perpetual night state that is able to become brighter or darker depending on the time. While this trait does not directly enhance the danger of Level 84, it can make exploring narrow alleyways highly difficult, particularly late at night. The temperature at the level is rarely consistent, though it typically ranges between 37 - 48℃. The level has obtained these very high temperatures mostly as a result of the eruption of the volcano within it.
The weather at Level 84-B is generally consistent, however, it varies depending on the time. Level 84-B is usually cloudy and dark, though it rains regularly. Natural disasters are infrequent in this level, although the most prevalent ones, such as earthquakes, floods, and blizzards, occur regularly.
The Volcano on Level 84[]
The Volcano on Level 84, generally referred to as simply "The Volcano," is an enormous structure that features an isolated island disconnected from the main city of Level 84, as well as a 32-kilometer-tall volcano containing more than 51 million cubic kilometers of material within it.
Level 84's volcano is the sole reason it has an abandoned-like appearance, unstable buildings, and high carbon monoxide levels. It erupted in 2019, establishing the level's present appearance. The volcano possesses the ability to explode again at any time, thus it should be completely avoided.
It is unknown where the volcano came from, as the wanderers that had discovered Level 84 noted that either they didn't spot the volcano, or that it just wasn't in the level at that time period. Due to the sheer size of the volcano, it is believed that the volcano randomly materialized at an unknown date and decided to permanently inhabit Level 84.
Even in such a confusing realm, this space is surely the most difficult I've ever traversed. It feels even stranger considering that I used to live in such a similar place to this back before i no-clipped into The Backrooms; seemingly endless cityscape, and you'll return to your original location no matter what direction you go.
It sure does disturb me that within this place any second could be my last, and my life could be cut short while I'm still writing this. Despite there being none, I can still smell the distant aura coming from the countless cigarettes all scattered around my friend's apartment building; when it was time to go back to home, I'd find another pile in the narrow alleyways, or near a street cat getting played with by my classmates who used to live in another apartment building that was practically identical to the one i was in.
However, not everything within the streets of this place is terrible. As I've expressed earlier, this place really does remind me of my life before i no-clipped, some of these buildings look almost identical to the ones I've seen. Maybe they truly are the same buildings? Perhaps I'm hallucinating? Am I in a coma, desperately attempting to wake up but being met with "The Backrooms" as a cruel punishment for my lack of patience?
There is one thing that always haunts me, that being the numerous entities that inhabit this landscape. I think that at any second one of them could pop out of the snow and maul me to death with their claws, and maybe, just maybe, that could be true.
I feel as if I have lost all hope of finding an exit, or finding anything for that matter. I've been isolated for almost the whole time I've spent within this space, and it will most likely continue that.
If you have, somehow, located this note, I request of you to spread this text and share the dangers of Level 84. I do not want other people to end up like me, even though I'm alive and fine, as entering Level 84 is more of a hazard than most "dangerous" that exist.
The volcano's eruption killed off most of the level's entities, making only a few of them remain. These entities include, but are not limited to: Facelings, Hounds, Skin-Stealers, et cetera.
Due to the level featuring poor living conditions, no colonies or outposts have been made within it.
- Destroyed basement doors within Level 9 lead here.
- Entering the outflow of one of the pools within Level 30 will transport one here.
- In Level 83, a bulk of stiffly placed and tall concrete buildings can be spotted on the horizon. Walking towards this bulk of buildings for a long enough time will eventually cause the wanderer to be knocked out and wake up here.
- Less cramped areas will likely transition to Level 11.
- No-clipping anywhere within the interior of a structure has a very small chance to lead to Level 85.
- Entering a movie theater will lead to Level 96.
- Entering a building covered in vines will lead to Level 122.
