Description
Picture of the buildings in Level 84.
The virtually infinite space of Level 84 is composed of an amalgamation of buildings jammed together in an eccentric system, leaving little to no space for those who desire to wander around the streets of the area. Constituted mainly of 20-story edifices and neoclassic houses, the structures seem to be divided into groups of fractals, easily visible from a bird's eye view. It doesn't show variations from the two types of constructions presented before, molding strange, but unique connections between those fractals, which forges the mangled reality of Level 84.
As it's commonly found throughout the Backrooms, linear space in Level 84 is heavily different from the one found in The Frontrooms. In certain parts of the level, buildings are connected through non-intuitive space, seeming to exhibit non-Euclidean geometry. The general space of the level is unstable, with the possibility of modifying its areas randomly. This makes orientation by navigation devices nearly impossible, transforming the level into a maze-like area. There is only one structure on the level that can't be moved by those properties: a 32-kilometer tall volcano, containing more than 56 million cubic kilometers of material inside it. Reports have shown that it has erupted since the level was discovered, although it wasn't even close to its true destruction potential. The volcano is active, but its destiny is solely decided by the randomness of the level.
Most of the buildings present in the level appear to be completely furnished, albeit the structure of the edifices are slightly damaged. In contrast, most structures are either locked or with no apparent entrances. Some of them contain entryways to basements, although they haven't been documented yet. Rooms inside the constructions can appear similarly on different domiciles, but with different furniture.
Entities are generally very scarce in Level 84. The biggest community of these beings are Facelings. Sightings of Hounds and Deathmoths have been described, although they aren't nearly as common as the other one.
Colonies and Outposts
No colonies or outposts have been reported, although their existence is not discarded.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
- Finding a part of the city in Level 11 where the buildings are closer than normal will lead one here.
Exits
- One of the possible exits is by entering a building that is slightly brighter than the others. This will lead to Level 188.
- Another confirmed exit is through a beige room with old furniture in a random building, that takes to Level 231.
Interlude
The sun rises again. This time, with a quite unsettling landscape; as the dystopian future was right in front of the eyes of the explorers in Level 84, carbon dioxide spreads quickly through the buildings of the area. The first incident wasn't enough of a warning, as buildings close to the volcano functioned as shelter to some.
Moments later, the first clouds started to form. The horizon was tenebrous. The level was soon to be only ruins. Soon enough, magma also started to come to the surface, establishing the start of the end of the Level 84 we knew of. Of course, magma alone isn't enough to destroy a level, but what comes along with it surely is.
As pressure kept building up, the future of the city was starting to become worse by the second. Hours later, the first tephras started to glide through the level, demolishing whatever it landed on. Some of the most extreme ones were bigger than the houses settled there. As it thumped on the bigger buildings, many of them collapsed, causing a domino effect.
The gases soon were dispersed all through Level 84. The concentration levels of CO2 in the atmosphere were estimated to be higher than 20%, enough to kill an average person. The sharp shadows can be seen all around the area. No shelter in the surface is safe. The only escape had existed for years, although not explored by the majority of the wanderers.Level 84 is the 85th level of the Backrooms.
Description
An image of Level 84.
Level 84 takes place after a seemingly post-apocalyptic occurrence on the surface. After the volcano erupted, it destroyed the majority of the buildings by the surreal amounts of tephra that flied over the level. The carbon dioxide levels and the elevated temperature on the atmosphere makes the current version of the area inhabitable, leaving only one shelter beneath the known properties of the homogenous skyline.
An ever-expanding bunker hides under the city present in Level 84, deep underground, accessible by multiple edifices scattered through the exterior parts of the region. The shelter emulates common buildings found in suburbs, as pools, restaurants, barber shops and stores. The cold, white lights replaces the usual day-night cycle; they are always kept on. In opposition to it, the 'houses' have a set system of on-off to regulate the Circadian rhythm, seemingly pre-designed by the intelligent architecture of the level.
Most of the features of the level are either artificial – the grass found between the structures, the rocks made to build most of the buildings, the plants that serve as decorations — or automated, as the floor and walls always apparent to be clean and specific kinds of food are replenished in constant periods, despite the general lack of staff throughout the level. None of the exterior parts of the level are exposed to the bunker,
Entities
Three main entities inhabit Level 84. Confirmed reports affirm that Facelings and Clumps are present, along with a unique entity.
Shadow Figures
The Shadow Figures are a level-exclusive entity. They do not have a physical form, instead being represented by a black patch of mass that is understood as the presence of a person or an entity. Similar to the Peripherals, except for the fact that they can appear in all field of view regions. The shadows can be seen doing common activities, as entering some buildings, walking by the bunker and cleaning the houses. The figures seem unaware of their surroundings, often "no-clipping" into the walls or the floor. They are incapable of interacting with any other beings in any way.
Colonies and Outposts
Although many groups of around 10 people have been reported through Level 84, none of them have been documented in depth to be completely confirmed as an official colony or outpost.
