Level 850 is the 851st level of the backrooms.

Description

Level 850 is by wanderers described as being a dark grayish space with a slight green tint. It is estimated that the surface area of this level is roughly 30 by 20 meters and the ceiling height being approximately 4 meters. Level 850 contains eight tables that are neatly arranged inside the level. These tables are always accompanied by gray, plastic chairs. This level has proper illumination from openings in the presumed to be gray, tungsten walls, which are shaped in the form of a "line". It has been observed that while staring directly into the light, an individual will express feelings of discomfort of their eyes, however, these issues appear to be immediately resolved whenever an individual stops staring at these lights directly. This room does also include an alarm clock mounted against a wall, which is set to 90 minutes and appears to be counting down to zero.

An elevator-style door will be found on the left side of this alarm clock. Despite the fact that no such indestructible substance can be discovered in the Frontrooms nor does it match any specific material at all, the walls, doors, ceiling, floor, and alarm clock have been confirmed to be as of yet indestructible, which have been proven by numerous attempts to break through, or destroy them in any way.

Upon entering this level, people will find themselves sitting on a plastic chair behind a table, usually in the back of the room. On every table, a blank A4 formatted paper can be found, next to a singular pencil and one candy bar, usually chocolate. On approximately ten seconds after entering this level, individuals will be greeted by an unidentified male voice over the intercom. He will introduce himself as the invigilator. Despite this occurrence, no speakers from inside this level have ever been discovered. Because only one person can reach this level at a time, proper study as to what exactly is spoken has remained unknown, there which would only provide adequate information to the intention of this invigilator. it has been noted that the invigilator does know the name of the wanderer, regardless of whether the people themselves know their own name or not.

Recently, a lost traveler recorded the entire message, disclosing the exact text that was stated. The voice over the intercom tells wanderers who have arrived the following:

AUDIO RECORDING: LEVEL 850

BEGIN RECORDING

<NOTE: Loud rumbling accompanied with and Confused mutter by the wanderer can be heard upon entering this level, approximately ten seconds in, a mildly distorted intercom would start to speak>

Intercom: Greetings, traveler! You must have been going through a difficult, long, and painful trip. Let's relax your body a little while maintaining clear thinking, shall we? You will see a piece of paper and a pencil in front of you. There is also a candy bar for you on the table, in case you're hungry.

<NOTE: This candy bar has been shown to be safe to ingest without causing any extra unpleasant side effects.>

Intercom: I've developed a little test for you to keep your mind active, and I'll be your personal invigilator for it. If you can solve this test within the span of ninety minutes, you'll be sent to a safe place. A place where your mind can finally come to a rest. And if you don't manage to pass this test, ...

<NOTE: The invigilator appears to be silent for a brief moment of time and let out a sigh before continuing to speak.>

Intercom: Yeah uhm, let's not talk about that. Point is, you must pass this exam for your own benefit. During this exam, a few rules are taken into consideration. The first rule is that you are not allowed to speak to me throughout this test; So no asking for help, no begging. None of that nonsense, we've got to remain a little independent here. On the good side, other speaking is allowed, so let's not worry about that one. Onto the second rule, The second rule stipulates that you only receive one chance. So don't muck up your paper or go crazy. Just stay calm. Think about and make the test, no matter how difficult it may appear, as if it were a typical school test. How does it sound? It's not my fault if it sounds horrible, deal with it. And our last rule, even though I would not call it a rule but rather advise. Okay, so do you see that steel door over there? Don't even try to open it, or things will become ugly... I'd rather you stay in your seat and concentrate on what's essential for your survival. When the time comes, the door will be opened for you. Then, and only then, are you permitted to pass through it. Capiche? ...Very well. Before we start, do you have any questions before we start this test?

<NOTE: The individual has reported shaking his head.>

Intercom: Alright then. I do wish you the best making this test. Timer starts... now!

FAST FORWARDING 83 MINUTES: THE WANDERER HAS 7 MINUTES LEFT

Intercom: I see that you've finished the test guessed correctly, this is quite uncommon you know? Very well, the door should be opened. Feel free to walk towards the exit. And uh, don't forget to claim your prize!

<NOTE: At the end of the invigilator's sentence, the door would open, and a medal with no further information would appear on the table the individual was working on.>

Endings

Good Ending:

  • The individual has solved the test and has the correct answer written on paper. The door will open, and send you to a safe level. The individual is sent to a level with a maximum survival difficulty of 1.
  • The individual is certain of the correct answer but has not written it down on paper. The individual is, on the spot, sent to a level with a maximum survival difficulty of 2.

Bad Ending:

  • Bad endings are highly likely to occur owing to the fact that as much as one incorrect response or breaking one of the rules will result in a Bad Ending.
  • The door will open whenever a horrible ending happens. This time, it reveals a gloomy corridor. A unknown force will push the individual down this corridor. Soon after, the door will slam shut, and a swarm of entities will assault the person. As a result, even when wearing full protection, there is a 100% fatality rate.
  • When the person manages to break open the door, the above-mentioned event will begin to occur.

Entities

Noted entities which are present in the corridor during a bad ending are Skin-Stealers, Smilers, Child & Shadow Facelings, Antidullers, Phobic Centipedes and Hounds. Despite the vast number of listed Entities, it is commonly presumed that there may be other, undocumented entities inside this corridor as well.It is uncertain whether or not the invigilator himself is an entity as well, as he has displayed no other anomalous qualities.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of Level 850, establishing an outpost has proven to be impossible.

Do's and don'ts

Do:

  • Listen to the invigilator, he and his instructions have proven to be essential for survival.
  • Pay close attention to the A4 paper, There is no way to decipher it as it is completely blank
  • Write down your answer on the paper, it may increase the change of you being sent to a safer level.
  • Make a list of your ideas. The invigilator explains the regulations precisely as they are, which means that writing on another surface does not violate any restrictions.
  • Before writing things down, consider your options carefully. The final answer makes sense. Meaning that no matter how strange the solution appears, it may still be right.

Don't:

  • Open the door yourself, this will cause a 100% fatality rate.
  • Make an attempt to decipher anything. As there is nothing to decipher in the first place.
  • Mess up the paper. It is only for writing up the answers, and serves no other purposes than that.
  • Stress, this will eat up important time that might be used studying for the exam to get the right answer.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances:

  • There is no proven way for reaching Level 850. However, if you travel more than 10 levels within the backrooms, there is a negligible chance that an individual will be able to unintentionally noclip here.
  • It is suggested that noclipping through a dead end in Level -99 has a small chance of the person ending up in this level.

Exits:

  • By successfully answering the test by writing the answer down; The individual will be guided towards the door and walking in it will result that person to end up in a Level with a survival difficulty with a maximum of 1
  • By successfully answering the test by simply thinking of the answer and despite all odds, guessing it correctly; one will, at the spot, be immediately teleported to a Level with a survival difficulty with a maximum of 2
