Description[]

Artist’s depiction of Level 87.

Painting

Level 87, also known as “Inescapable Paradise” is a tropical island containing palm trees, a pink tinted ocean, and a multi-coloured sky. On occasions, chilly breezes may occur; these breezes give a sense of relief, happiness, and a reduction of stress towards any affected wanderers. It is notable to mention that the breeze only affects certain type of people, mainly ones who are stressed out, or suffer from a condition.

Anomalously, attempting to swim away from the island is virtually impossible; the level seems to loop itself as if it was a miniature globe, causing the island to always reappear. However, when attempting to swim downwards, lengthy, narrow trenches can be found. These trenches frequently intersect, split from each other, or loop back on themselves. While this part of the level is mostly barren, there have been reports of gigantic fish-like bones aimlessly drifting. These bones are most likely native to another level that somehow found its way to Level 87.

Level 87 hosts several types of newly-discovered plants with many of them being yet to be named. Majority of these plants are safe for consumption, but must be washed thoroughly to get rid of any dirt or bacteria. The inhabitants of Level 87, however, still continue to rely on the outside world to supply them with resources, as the man-made farms simply do not produce enough food to nourish everyone.

As titled, the level is thought of to be inescapable; no exits have been discovered, nor confirmed. However, although this aspect of the level may seem to be a curse, the level is mostly devoid of any potentially dangerous hazards, and is a popular host for settlements. Though, it is notable to mention that a famine occurred on the level as a result of The Flicker.

Overtime, many wanderers stumbled upon Level 87, and eventually became one of the most populous levels. As of May 6th, 2019, the level holds more than approximately 1,769 inhabitants; a very small portion of them were born within the level. Despite all this, the island is approximately 10,000 square miles, and raises the concern of overpopulation in the far future. However, it is notable to say that the overpopulation crisis will not happen until thousands of years later, as the population is growing at a slow rate.

Level 87 was initially mentioned through an old journal. While the book doesn’t describe how the level physically appears, it suggests that an inescapable paradise may exist. This is stated in the following translated transcript:

“In my adventures through the Eerie Ocean, the Great Depths, the Decaying Halls, and the Replica, many have told me that an Elysium that one can simply not exit may exist. I continue to question if that is a curse or a blessing. Furthermore, I ponder if all evil is banished from entering the gates of the Elysium. Perhaps the Replica and the Elysium are closely related."

Up until recent years, there was no way to export information from Level 87. However, with the existence of Wifi and technology being provided to the local community, many of them were able to contact foreign groups and inform them on how the level visually appears, what attributes the level contains, and how they managed to enter the level. During 2016, The Flicker caused communications and devices to suddenly malfunction, and would begin the Famine of 87.

The Famine of 87[]

Famine of 87

The Famine of 87 was a level-wide famine caused by The Flicker. Foreign groups had no way to communicate and supply the local community with resources, and would eventually lead to the deaths of more than 100 inhabitants. Furthermore, agricultural and crops failed to produce anything, causing even more deaths to occur. It took several weeks for communications to be reestablished, and even more for food to be resupplied.

Due to several factors such as the level being inescapable, the agricultural failing, communications with foreign groups malfunctioning, and many inhabitants fighting others for food, the tragedy claimed the lives of more than 200 inhabitants. The event is expected to happen again in the future and many inhabitants have begun working as farmers to supply the community with food to prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.

Entities[]

No entities are known to be hosted within the level.

Colonies and Outposts[]

While Level 87 has more than around 1,769 people inhabiting the level, no proper colony or outpost by a foreign group such as the Major Explorer Group has ever been set up. The local community does, however, cooperate with M.E.G.

Entrances and Exits[]

Entrances[]

  • Noclipping into a painting that resembles a beach on Level 86 will bring you here;
  • Travelling far enough in the oceans of Level 630 will lead you here;
  • Swimming far enough in Level 7 may lead you to the shores of Level 87;
  • Using an elevator that takes you to levels instead of floors on Level 22 will give you the option to select Level 87. Selecting it will lead you here;
  • Swimming far enough into the ocean in the beach of Level 85 would bring you here;

Exits[]

Level 87 is a dead-end; there are no exits to be found on the level. Generally, swimming away from the island, noclipping into an object, or other factors would usually lead to another level. However, all of these methods have failed to work, and an exit that may supposedly exist is yet to be found.
