Description
The second area
The third area
Level 977 consists of six areas of a large expanse of rural roads, forests, and moorland, all covered in a thick crimson fog. No houses have been seen on this level but the occasional barn or shack can be spotted. Each area extends for about 3 miles but this can change due to the slightly unstable nature of the level.
Areas
The first area of the level starts on top of a small hill with a dirt road bordered by dry stone walls. Attempts to leave the road or walk in a different direction are met with failure as wanderers experience a mental compulsion that prevents travelling in anything other than a straight line.
The second area is a ploughed field at the end of the dirt road which one must climb over a rusted gate to access. This area is sparsely populated by smilers that, instead of being shrouded in blackness, blend into the red fog around them. Normal precautions for smilers should be taken here.
Continuing on leads to a low fence with a stile separating the second and third area, this area is a dirt track with trees dotted on either side, large swollen rats can be found in this area and scurry away when approached. The transition between area three and four is gradual, with only the amount of rats decreasing and trees increasing until you reach a pine forest.
This is the fourth area, where no entities have been encountered and supplies like boxes of almond water can occasionally be found on the side of the path leading through the wood.
The fifth area sees the trees slowly become shorter and more often dead than alive as you progress through it, no supply crates are found here and when the wanderer is not looking at a spot low in the sky above the path, a moon will appear. Many wanderers that survived this level have reported feelings of heightened paranoia and feelings of being watched in this area and many of them link these feelings to the appearance of the moon.
The sixth and final area is a barren, sandy heath that starts at the abrupt ending of the woods in area five, the moon disappears when unobserved and does not return, and takes with it the feelings of being watched. Entities in excess of 16ft tall have been encountered here and to date exist nowhere in other explored levels, they resemble humans but with unnaturally long limbs and "too many joints" and have been designated as striders. The area ends at a massive hole in the ground with vertical sides and no visible bottom. Due to the mental compulsion pulling you in a straight line there is no way for wanderers to navigate around the hole.
Entities
Striders are usually non-hostile and stop to watch passing wanderers as if out of curiosity but if a wanderer makes a noise above roughly 50 decibels then the strider will attack, contrary to their size, they are relatively weak and can be driven off by an armed wanderer but they pose a much greater threat in packs.
Colonies and Outposts
No known colonies or outposts exist on this level.
