Description

Level 989 takes the form of an impossibly vast jungle of woodlands similar to the deep zones of an Oregon forest and with an atmosphere similar to the Amazon rainforest as it is damp, humid and raining almost constantly with a thick blanket of fog obscuring the forest floor. Level 989 also has a number of swamplands, rivers and creeks as well as mountains that can be seen on the horizon above the sea of trees.

Level 989 is home to a variety of entities ranging from passive to extremely hostile, most notably the apex species known as the Ravager Apes, as well as a dangerously contagious and aggressive bacterial agent.

Properties

The bacteria that causes Jungle Fever as seen under a microscope

The rain that falls on Level 989 in a near constant downpour is notably either very cold and boiling hot and what form it takes appears to be a random, sometimes even changing in mid-downpour.

There is no visible sun but there are day and night cycles and the level is pitch black and impossible to maneuver without night vision equipment at night.

Level 989 is plagued with an aggressive brain-eating bacteria that causes a disease known as “Jungle Fever” symptoms of which includes the growth of a highly irritating, green boils on the affected’s skin, swollen, watery eyes, blurred vision, muscle spasms and a deteriorating mental state as the bacteria spreads through the host’s brain, causing hallucinations, seizures and general insanity. Bacteria is found primarily in the water and in Ravager Ape saliva.

Entities

Ravager Apes

The apex predators and effectively the dominant species of Level 989. The Ravager Apes are a race of highly intelligent, excessively cruel and violent Sasquatch-like creatures somewhat resembling orangutans. A full grown Ravager Ape averaging at around twenty feet tall and weighing in at 2,000 pounds. Ravager Apes possess immense levels of strength, durability and speed significantly above an average gorilla and are terrifyingly intelligent, being able to develop complex hunting strategies and possessing a memory span on par with on elephant’s. Ravager Apes live in family groups much like actual apes and there are multiple clans of Ravager Apes found throughout Level 989, Ravager Ape clans have been known to lead to violent confrontations and thus, opposing clans tend to not interact with each other. Ravager Apes are strictly carnivorous and have a taste for human flesh especially. Ravager Apes can see in the dark and their roars and howls are strong enough to damage human eardrums at close proximity.

The Ravager Apes have a terrifying capacity for violence and are almost always hunting, having a twisted sense of pleasure in the act of hunting and killing human beings and having a tendency to play around with their victims, giving them a false sense of security and leading them to believe they harrowingly escaped only to jump them unexpectedly. Although relying mostly on their strength and knife-like teeth, Ravager Apes have been known to use makeshift hunting tools such as wooden spears and nets woven from vines and their own hair.

Other Entities

  • Death Moths
  • Jungle Penguins - Penguin-like entities that are green and brown in coloration. They are ambush predators that use their coloration to blend in with their environment and wait until striking, using their very sharp, elongated beaks. Meat is edible but hunting them is not advised due to their hostile nature and superior use of the environment.
  • Swamp Hares - Amphibious, dog-sized rabbits that live near the swamplands and are capable of swimming and diving into deep depths to feed on algae and other amphibious plant life. Non-hostile and meat is edible.
  • Siren Vipers - Highly venomous and carnivorous snakes capable of mimicking human voices and spitting their venom more then ten feet away. Avoid the sound of female Nordic throat singing at all costs. Meat is edible but reportedly tastes horrible, hunting is not recommended due to risk factor.
  • Vampire Deer - Carnivorous deer-like entities with six inch long fangs and bat-like ears. Diet consists entirely of blood, not known to hunt humans. Meat is edible.
  • Dyna-Mites - Small insects resembling Nicrophorus Vespillo (burying beetle) capable of causing a chemical reaction within their bodies to explode and release a burning acid with a radius of three feet. Inedible.
  • Hippie Frogs - Multicolored, tree faring frogs that secrete a hallucinogenic toxin that induces hallucinations and intense euphoria when making skin contact. Inedible.
