Description

Level 996, otherwise known as “White Torture”, is divided into 2 contrasting areas. Each area is comprehensively different, although they share the same similarities such as its color; the scarceness of entities; perplexing architecture that nullifies the intended purpose; its isolating nature; and the abundance of food. These areas are somewhat connected, as entrances to these areas are quite common. Gravity in Level 996 is much weaker than in other levels, making it feasible to jump from a high distance and land on the ground unscathed. The gravity in Level 996 has been measured to be 2.047 m/s², instead of the typical 9.807 m/s². Any supplies carried by a wanderer will be absent when one immediately enters the level. Although residing in Level 996 is possible, it is not feasible to permanently call Level 996 home. Multiple people had gone missing, and a few had turned into Insanity while on the level. It is presumed the extended period of the isolating nature of Level 996 can be the provocation. Hallucinations are quite common in Level 996, more commonly family and friends back in the Frontrooms or the Backrooms alike. Due to this, psychotic breaks and mental breakdowns might occur, which can lead one to turn into Insanity.

The Building

the Building is the first area of Level 996, and the location wanderers are led to. The Building takes the appearance of an edifice that consists of corridors and interconnected rooms that range in a variety of shapes and sizes. No rooms are similar in appearance in Level 996; they range from small bathrooms, enough to fit only one toilet to an expansive complex of staircases that lead to nothing. The level is entirely made of concrete, as this also applies to the few pieces of furniture located on Level 996 such as beds, doors, fridges, etc.

The structure of Level 996 shares similarities to the interior of a typical home, determined by the few pieces of furniture that exist inside Level 996. The architecture of Level 996’s structure is diversified, however, its features are uniform; as the concrete, it its entirely constructed of is all painted white, with the only distinction originating from light from the windows and the light blue sky. Although it could function as a living place, its means of being one is undetermined. Due to the abnormal geometry and architecture of Level 996, any intended purpose it may serve is disannulled; rooms filled to the brim with pillars making walking and breathing difficult; staircases that lead to the sky; random floating roads in the middle of the sky; rooms flooded with Almond Water; staircases which lead to nothing; hallways going in different directions; light from windows radiate in an odd angle, leaving areas completely pitch black; and random pieces of furniture placed in the middle of rooms. Remain on high alert when entering these dark areas due to several fundamental dangers and factors they pose; several rooms and corridors directly leading to the Void, small claustrophobic tunnel-like hallways; and much more. It is highly advised to carry a flashlight when entering these areas, as one can easily get disoriented without bringing the proper equipment. Visual and auditory hallucinations are quite common in these areas, with hallucinations of Smilers being the most common which can pose a false sense of danger that might prove fatal for persons.

It is confirmed every building in the City makes up one single structure, as no structure in the City is separated from each other, they are always connected to them in some way or form. The Building appears to be under the ground of the City, as tunnels, shafts, sewers, and vents located inside buildings leading down to the ground always lead to the Building. The windows show other parts of the Building hanging from the ground and occasionally supported by pillars.

Pieces of furniture are quite rare in the Building, however, one may stumble upon them from time to time. They on occasion are placed in abnormal locations, as they on occasion pass through walls, and even be placed hanging on the ceiling. These pieces of furniture will turn to normal when a wanderer touches it. It is possible to construct a living area using these pieces of furniture, and some have even built makeshift tents and houses. Food can be found on tables, with white rice and plain yogurt being the most common. Other consumables such as Almond Water, vegetables, fruits, cooked meat, etc. are all white, although they can still be consumed and still possess the same nutrients and flavor they bear, with the only deviation being their color.

The City

An image of the City.

The City is the second area of Level 996 which can be easily accessed from the first area, the Building. The City takes the appearance of a city that bears an undetermined size and only consists of skyscrapers, buildings, and shops, similar to Level 11; however its features and characteristics distinguish it similar to the level; it is entirely white, and the only deviation of color in the area is the sky. No visible roads or pathways have been discovered, instead it only possesses flat white plains for means of traversing the area. Unlike the Building, the City has objects made of other materials such as rubber, metal, bricks, plastic, etc. Pieces of furniture and other decorations are common, although they are exceptionally dangerous due to these objects being randomly positioned; they incessantly fall on unsuspecting wanderers. Gravity reduces the risk of fatality, nevertheless, it is possible to be crushed by buildings as they lack the foundation to keep them stable. The City is completely devoid of any parks, gardens, houses, metro stations, and so on.

Buildings in Level 996 are similar in structure to that of those in the Frontrooms and Level 11, however, their interior mostly consists of vents, pipes, machinery, etc. It is unknown what purpose or objective these buildings serve, however, it is theorized there exists an unimaginably massive factory that requires a large amount of electricity to function. Buildings in Level 996 do appear to possess architecture that can exist in the Frontrooms, as it is assumed their architecture is the reason these buildings are still standing.

The sky of Level 996 is frequently light blue, however, the sky can shift to white instead. Ocassionally this transition usually happens when rain is about to come. The raindrops in Level 996 are Almond Water, however, its color is entirely white. Its sanity-restoring properties are gone though, only leaving its sweet almond-like taste.

Colonies & Outposts

Communities had been established in Level 996; however they had either disbanded, gone missing, and/or all or some members turned into a Wretch.

Entities

Although there are reports of people turning into Insanity inside Level 996, no corpses and remains have ever been found. It is unknown if their remains disappear quickly due to an anomalous effect the level might possess, or if the level is so unimaginably large it is impossible to find these remains. Level 996 is completely devoid of any entities; any reports of wanderers spotting entities in Level 996 are all false and lack sufficient evidence and proof.

Entrances & Exits

Level 996 is infamously hard to exit, although a few possible exits have been discovered.

Entrances

  • Locations in Level -69 might lead to Level 996 which can be identified by glitchy pieces of furniture completely painted white;
  • Rooms resembling a mental hospital in Level 799 will lead one to Level 996.
  • Areas within Level 13 may perhaps instantly send one to Level 996, though it is yet to be confirmed.

Exits

  • Wandering far enough into the Building will eventually lead one to a location which fade in Level 0 due to a variety of factors;
  • Noclipping through a wall plastered with desert wallpaper will lead one to Level 997.
  • Areas in which if one enters them will unknowingly lead them to Level 141.
  • If you endure this hell, you might get sent to Level 700.
