Level 9996 is the 9997th level of the Backrooms.

Survival Difficulty: Obscurus

Unsafe

Unsecure

Undocumented Entities; presumably Humanoid Entities

Description

Level 9996 is a hellish-like city, similar to mid-20th century Soviet cities, or modern Pyongyang. A key difference in the visual description of this Level is the skies -- during the mornings (up until 12:00 P.M,) the skies are red due to an unknown fog emitting out of several factories in the city. Level 9996 is filled with buildings that are worn down, filthy, and could collapse at any moment. Notable exceptions to this are in the center and outskirts of the city -- where architectural gems can be found that are actually sturdy. They are believed to be home to humanoid Entities that rule over the city. The buildings vary in height -- some are relatively tall, whilst others barely reach above 15 feet. As aforementioned (yet not well-explained,) the buildings are worn-down -- nearly every report of interiors in Level 9996's city has been among the lines of filth and sadness -- very bad living conditions for the unfortunate souls that live here. Outside, there are roads, with few cars travelling -- barely anyone there could afford them anyways. Also, a flag is waved from nearly every window on this Level -- red, yellow, and black in appearance. Final statement on Visual Description is with an escapees' report on Interiors.

> Escapee of Level 9996's take on the interiors of the level:

As someone who lived in the City of-- apologies, you kind people call it Level 9996 my entire life, I never saw anything better than badly-smelling, small quarters, with barely any space for anyone of my family... not to mention, these quarters rarely had kitchens (we swapped sometimes,) and when they did... well, we didn't have anything to cook. For the better portion of my life, I was starving, in this empty, sad place... I can only pray it is destroyed soon... of course, after I get my family out... You people -- the M.E.G.. will help me get them out, correct?

There are no reported Special Properties of Level 9996. However, it is almost entirely accepted (by the Major Explorer Group) that the Level is ruled over by humanoid entities, due to the extreme productivity and force that they have control over. Entity depictions have been created by survivors of Level 9996, however the aforementioned people did not know they were drawing Entities. They simply believed they were drawing pictures of what they'd seen as their Leaders -- not odd creatures who had enslaved humans.

Tales

The following contents of this M.E.G Level Page are takes of experiences in Level 9996. Each comes from survivors with varying occupations in the Level.

Survivor Williams

1; Survivor Williams, after being rescued on December 31st, 1956
In the City, I was a factory worker... I don't really know what we were working on.

But, what I do know is that it was laborious. The agony of slaving with a shovel just to burn some...
Some coal like substance... it was the worst job ever. Even then, it was slave labor.
I gained nothing, and...

there was a slight pause

And if we didn't work "well" enough (I don't know who decided this,) we could have our families harmed...
sent away...
That's all I have to say.

Survivor Elizabeth (now an M.E.G researcher)

2; Survivor Elizabeth, 3 years being rescued.
Well, I thought this would never be brought up again... My past in Level 9996.
I didn't enjoy any of it.
I remember... one time, when I was young, in school... one of my friends was "taken away."
It was because her mom... well, she'd... done some crime, and they both had to be taken away...
I distinctively remember...

there was a pause of about 2 seconds

just 3 days before she was taken away... well, she told me that "the bad men" were trying to take her Mom away.
She told me they were abnormally tall, and wanted to take the entire family.
Evidently, to some "bad place..." that's what her mom had told her.
I don't want to talk about this anymore.

(researcher Elizabeth refused to talk any more about her history in Level 9996.)

Survivor Johnson

3; Survivor Johnson, a few years after rescued from 9996
Back in the City, I worked as a school teacher. It sounds like a peaceful job, but,
definetely wasn't. At least, not in Level 9996. We weren't really given... well, any breaks,
now that I look back upon it. Thank God I work at the M.E.G now. Anyways, where was I?
Oh, yeah, sometimes the teachers were ridiculed for even mispronouncing a word in class.
I never figured out how, but it was as if we were always being watched in class.
I looked around in most of my classes, but I never saw anyone watching.
Like an invisible force. But I don't believe that the Leaders had cameras.
Anyways, that's my take on Level 9996. I hope it helps.

Researcher Louis studies on 9996

> Note from Researcher Louis:

Researcher Louis, here. These are my studies on 9996. Also, if you're reading this, I think that Impresario G, from the Graces, has ordered only Level 10's to be able to read the 9996 pages... so, if you're below that security clearance... you're kind of dead.

Level 9996 is a very interesting case, to me. I've studied many levels in the Backrooms, but this one... it's fundamentally... weird. The unseen Leaders of the Level are quite the conundrum, if my theory is correct.

I believe that they are, themselves, humanoid Entities.

This could mean that they hold the ability to shapeshift -- making them very dangerous entities. We already know that they do not align with the M.E.G morally, due to their torment of the people of 9996. If my theory is correct... Level 9996's entrances must be blocked, at all costs... along with its' exits. Although this will harm the innocents of 9996 that desperately need to escape... if these Shapeshifter entities escape Level 9996 and use their ability to become someone important -- like the Impresarios, then it would be easy for the Backrooms to fall into chaos.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of this level, colonies can't necessarily be established -- there is, however, a governmental state that rules over the City. It is mysterious and little-to-nothing is known about it.

Entrances and Exits

> Note from Researcher Louis:
I'm contacting the Impresarios, specifically Impresario G, on removing this from the Level 9996 page. If my theory is correct (and most of my theories are correct,) then no one except the Impresarios should know of the entrances and exits. This is too risky to be on any pages.

Entrances

  • Be born in Level 9996
  • Find a rusty door on specific levels.

Exits

  • Leave the heavily guarded city
