Level 999 is the 1000th level of the Backrooms.

Description
Level 999 is a lesser-known safe-haven for wanderers within the backrooms.
The level is a liminal city, all the buildings are marked with certain numbers, of course, they aren't linear (since not much in the backrooms is) but M.E.G has created a map of the explored areas. Most of the city does not have any hostile entities, and the M.E.G settlement there (Base Orion) has created the map with sectors. So, each few blocks have a division and each division has a code, kind of like a zipcode or postcode except based on safety and time of discovery. For example, one area of the city is a no-go zone, sector C4-07. C4 meaning Class 4 (very dangerous) and 07 being the 7th class 4 sector mapped by M.E.G. C4-07 is one of the most dangerous sectors of The Sub-City. It is infested with hounds, and is popular among bored hunters living in the areas protected by M.E.G. All the buildings are empty, except for the ones settled by humans. The reason one specific building (17 inside C0-01) was chosen for the base was because when you enter a building, there is a small chance of going to a random level. Building 17 in C0-01 has a backdoor that seems to not have this effect. C0-01 is also the safest sector. There are also a few smaller bases setup by wanderers who stumbled upon Level 999, the largest of which is called "The Survivors" in sector C1-14.
The level has a good number of supplies, the city snows most of the time, and the snow can be melted into Almond Water. Inside the buildings, you can often find food and even medical supplies in the hospital building however every time you enter it, the chance of going to Level ! increases about 1.4%.
The size of the level is thought to be finite, as the edge of the level can be seen from the tops of skyscrapers. If you fall off the side of the level, you will end up in The Blue Channel.
An ancient wanderer's poem about Level 999 was discovered by M.E.G and is now stored in Base Orion, a digital copy can also be found in their archives, below is an abridged copy. Backrooms Level 560, M.E.G Archive, lost poem by early wanderer.
- Backrooms Level 560, M.E.G Archive, lost poem by early wanderer.
- "It is the city beneath all cities, the buildings supporting all buildings, the wind that blows is the wind pushing the wind that cascades through reality.
- It is a place of survival.
- It is not a place of life.
- Your blood can flow safely,
- Your lungs can breath calmly,
- But no level in this treacherous place can you truly live."
Entities
The entity count is fairly low in Level 999, and M.E.G has stationed guards to defend sectors C0-01 (Base Orion's sector), C0-03, and C0-07. The entities are mostly hounds, however you may find crawlers in the more dingy buildings. There have been a few unconfirmed cases of Smilers in the dark buildings of sector C5-02. If a human starts the wretched cycle, they are allowed to say goodbye, and are then executed.
