Level Haze is believed to be a sublevel connecting levels 777, 888, and 999.

Description

One of the first found images of Level Haze that captures the house in which Jack lives.

Level Haze seems to be a beautiful forest full of wildlife and old structures. The only two things that would set it apart from the front rooms would be the unnaturally bright sunlight that covers the Level in haze. There are only two entities, Child Facelings, and the main resident of the floor: The Jack of Spades.

SPECIAL PROPERTIES

Exposure to Level Haze's direct sunlight will cause an inability to rest or go to sleep, most travelers claim they passed out from the sheer strain that the light puts on human eyes, side effects of the sunlight may include: migraines, nausea, episodes of psychosis, peeling skin, and suicidal outbursts. There is only one way to protect yourself from the light: finding shelter in a small white home with blue windowsills in the far south of the field where everyone (no matter which floor you came from) will no-clip to. That house is the only way to shied yourself from the sunlight, shade from trees or structures will have no effect on the sunlight's effects. It is widely believed that since the house is the only way to stay alive, the level was designed to force a confrontation with the resident entity. This house is inhabited by an entity that calls himself the Jack of Spades, 'Jack' for short.

The only exit can be attained if you wait through fourteen days where Jack will fall in love with you and give up a key hanging on his necklace. Several survivors had come forth and described their experience with Level Haze and Jack, each of their stories seem to approximately follow this timeline:

After arrival to Level Haze from floors 777, 888, or 999, the traveler will find themselves alone in a bright open field

Almost every traveler that we've interviewed told us they became very sick and passed out after around 30 minutes of exposure to the sunlight (This seems to be the trigger to the main event), Jack will find you wherever you may have tried to hide yourself before loosing consciousness.

Travelers will then wake up in a large blue bed with a cup of cold almond water beside them, Jack will come in shortly after the traveler wakes up. Jack will introduce himself and invite you to stay. (If you refuse you're sure to die there and then)

He will invite the traveler to dinner on the seventh day and he will kiss them.

After another seven days he will offer the necklace around his neck that holds a small gold key, and with that he will seduce you, no matter the travelers sex. All the travelers we've interviewed had not turned down his sexual advances, even if before this floor they had no sexual attraction to men (Many believe Level Haze's sun also has mind altering properties because of this)

Location of the keyhole taken by [DATA EXPUNGED]

As the sun rises, Jack's key around your neck will glow and pull you out of the house into the light, it will pull you over to a large deteriorated building and you will find a small keyhole.

As soon as the key is inserted and turned the level would be completed and you will be taken to a level between level 250-273 or Level 5.

ENTITY DESCRIPTIONS

There are only two entities that can be found on Level Haze:

CHILD FACELINGS

Child Facelings have a large role to play in Jack's survival. The Child Facelings are in charge of all household chores and are often seen frolicking in the sunlight, while not cleaning up after Jack of course. Jack seems to care about the Facelings and treats them as if they were his own children. The Child Facelings on this level are entirely harmless and are rather affectionate towards guests that wind up in the level. The most harm the children will do is attempt to steal the key off of Jacks' neck, and if they manage to grab it, they give it back, telling us they have no desire to leave, or are too scared to try.

THE JACK OF SPADES
The Jack of Spades is an entity that only exists in Level Haze and takes the role as a caretaker and almost parental figure to the Child Facelings on Level Haze. Jack appears to be handsome and kind but after exactly fourteen days on level haze, he will begin to act obsessively towards travelers: Any who has the misfortune of not leaving as soon as they get the key have less than a 20% chance of survival.

Jack is known to be very temperamental if he doesn't get what he wants which is evident from 'Haze-019'. For an unknown reason a cassette tape was found on Level 260 by a traveler from the M.E.G. Base Water Waders. It was later submitted to B.A.S (Backrooms Analytical Squadrant) for research being done on Level Haze. The tape was later named 'Haze-019'.

"*woman sobbing* I tried to stay and I [UNINTELLIGABLE]. He's crazy, he took my hand, the suns too bright, they're [UNINTELLIGABLE]. The blood won't stop [UNINTELLIGABLE] hiding. *snapping of branches and woman's shouts*"

The tape was cut there but then resumed recording.

*man whispering* "I'm going to stay everyone *laughter* I love Jack."

Another pause in the tape

"*wailing* HELP ME PLEASE, GET ME [UNINTELLIGABLE]"

One last scream be heard on the tapes before a loud crunching sound could be heard

The Jack of Spades looks and acts human, but as we know all too well: nothing human comes out of the backrooms.

Colonies and Outposts

No colonies can be created in Level Haze, because only one traveler can enter at a time.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • It's rare to travel to Level Haze through Level 777, but if you find yourself passing out and you hear bird calls, you'll regain consciousness in Level Haze
  • In Level 888, in the wooden landscape, if you see a white rabbit- chase after it, while you're running you'll pass out and wake up in Level Haze.
  • While wandering in the frozen cities of Level 999, you may reach a white door with a blue frame, that'll lead you right to Level Haze

Exits

  • There is only one way to leave Level Haze, and that is to (at the fourteen day mark) take the key on the necklace Jack gave you, and find the large structure directly to the north of his home, find the keyhole (which the key itself will help you find), insert the key and turn. You will end up in a level between levels 250-273 and on occasion Level 5.

The Truth About Level Haze

Each time a traveler enters Level Haze, Jack will have no recollection of past romances with other lovers and the key will return to Jacks' neck, and so the cycle will continue. It's not yet understood why this happens and there are many theories regarding the purpose of Level Haze, but one that my colleagues and I widely agree on is that this level was manmade.

The way Jack's actions repeat themselves for every new traveler without regard for the traveler's personality leads us to believe that this entire floor may just be a bunch of pre-programmed responses. No matter how hostile or non-reciprocal a traveler might be to his advances, his responses will be as if you reacted well. Telling him off does not incur his anger, but if you run away he will harm you. And if he doesn't kill you, the sun will.

Level haze is almost reminiscent of a Dating Simulation that resets at each new 'player', the only difference is that you're risking your life. It seems all too convenient that you have to go into his home to be safe from the deadly sun, which triggers the romance. You either die from the sun trying to get away from Jack, or suffer through the fourteen day one-sided romance and live.
