Description
Liquid Pain, designated Object 12, is a viscous substance found in most levels of the Backrooms. It is prominently known for its corrosive properties, capable of altering the chemical composition of various materials and objects. It has a striking red hue, and emits toxic crimson fumes. Samples of Liquid Pain are often found in nondescript containers falsely labeled as other objects or substances.[1]
Further testing has determined that Liquid Pain has a pH of around 1-to-2, giving it properties similar to hydrochloric acid; it is able to dissolve soft substances such as flesh, styrofoam, and paper. Due to this, Liquid Pain is often stored in metallic or otherwise thick containers. Despite this, it is still able to corrode most materials with ease, save for most steels, Kevlar, and various metals.
When extensively exposed to air—commonly around three-to-four days—it will harden and turn into a resin-like substance; the substance does not pose immediate danger, yet has the chance to spontaneously combust, rupture, or otherwise explode. Due to this property, wanderers have weaponized hardened Liquid Pain in the form of bullets, arrow tips, and other rudimentary projectiles.[2]
Compounds
Upon making contact with a number of substances, Liquid Pain has the possibility to create new materials through chemical reactions. The components and their resulting compounds are listed below:
- Liquid Dread (LpAl): A mix between Almond Water and Liquid Pain. Has detrimental psychological effects on wanderers.[3]
- Dolor Metallum (LpTi): Formal term given to a mixture of Liquid Pain and titanium. Has the same volatile effects as hardened Liquid Pain, and is used to manufacture shields and bullets. Stronger than most metals, albeit easily combustible.
- Firesalt (LpCl): Mixing Liquid Pain and salt will produce Firesalt, which is red-orange in color and highly flammable.
- Corruptivoid (LpCru): Much like the former reactions, mixing Corruptionite with Liquid Pain will result in Corruptivoid.
- Nuclear Infection (LpU/LpPu): Mixing Uranium or Plutonium with Liquid Pain will create Nuclear Infection, a highly toxic, volatile substance.
Symptoms and Effects
As aforementioned, Liquid Pain is capable of dissolving flesh and other soft substances. Due to this, it is highly unadvised to make contact with it, unless one takes proper precautions and wears the proper equipment to handle it.[4]
Upon contact with skin, Liquid Pain immediately dissolves the first few layers of the epidermis, causing agonizing pain to most. Within around thirty seconds of exposure, it would have already reached the dermis, with several minutes of prolonged exposure reaching the hypodermis. If the contact is cut off at any point by removing one's hand from the source, scabbing and scarring will occur after several hours.
If one is exposed to Liquid Pain for an extended period of time, irreversible damage can be caused to the human body. In most cases, fingers and limbs have to be amputated after prolonged exposure. In most cases, exposure is fatal, partly due to the toxic fumes it emits, as well as the extreme toxicity. The acidity often leaves wounds open for an extended timeframe, causing infections and other problematic things.
Uses
Liquid Pain, due to its toxicity, can be used for a variety of applications. One of the most prominent purposes it is used for is against entities and hostile individuals. Whilst hardening it and manufacturing it into projectiles is proven effective, others tend to merely splash it onto their targets, which is more effective and does more long-term damage to the recipient overall.
As also mentioned above in the Compounds section, Liquid Pain can be used for a variety of compounds. Dolor Metallum is among the most useful of these, allowing the manufacturing of rudimentary shields, armor, and projectiles. The volatile and combustible effects of it allow Liquid Pain to be a desired and sought-after material by the M.E.G., A.E.G., and more.
Locations
Liquid Pain can be found in most locations throughout the Backrooms, save for levels where objects and other articles are scarce, or otherwise do not appear at all.
Origins
It is relatively unknown when Liquid Pain was discovered. Multiple conflicting sources suggest it was first tested sometime in the 1940's, contrasting with earlier records dating back hundreds of years.[5]

Footnotes
- ↑ It is rumored such instances are mislabeled to trick one into consuming it.
- ↑ Due to the volatile and unpredictable properties of the material, it is notably effective against Skin-Stealers, Wretches, and other entities.
- ↑ Almond Water may be substituted for Cashew Water. Nonetheless, the transformation still happens, albeit with more volatile reactions.
- ↑ This typically consists of a Kevlar or otherwise carbon fiber suit. This may vary, however.
- ↑ The earliest recorded encounter with Liquid Pain was sometime in the 1500s. Who exactly discovered it was lost to time.
