Lycanthropy is a highly prevalent disease in the Backrooms.

Description

Talbotti Lycanthrosoma A.K.A. The Talbot Worm

Lycanthropy, also known as "Were Fever" is a disease that is found in the Backrooms. Lycanthropy is a mutagenic disease that transforms those infected into feral, physically powerful and extremely hostile human/animal hybrids known as Lycanthropes.

Lycanthropy is spread by a parasitic flatworm known as Talbotii Lyncanthrosoma otherwise known as the Talbot Worm that resides in the Host Organism’s bloodstream and it's known to infect a multitude of entities and can be found in items such as raw meat and unwashed flora.

Lycanthropy is commonly spread via bites or scratches but can also be spread through contact with infected bodily fluids such as blood and saliva.

The type of Lycanthrope one will transform into upon infection depends on a multitude of factors such as the type of Lycanthrope they were infected by, the infected's diet, their environment etc. Many Lycanthropes possess unique traits and abilities depending on the animal they mimic, such as Avian and Werebat specimens being capable of flight.

There is no known cure.

Symptoms

Stage 1: Fever - Hours after transmitting Lycanthropy, the infected will experience typical flu symptoms such as fever, cold sweats, swollen throat, aches and pains and gastrointestinal distress.

Stage 2: Animalistic Behavior - Two days after infection, the infected's mind will being deteriorate rapidly into an animalistic state, as they become more and more feral and obtain bloodshot eyes & foaming at the mouth, similar to rabies.

Stage 3: Transformation Stage - Three days after stage 2 is complete, the infected will undergo a series of mutations, transforming them into their Lycanthrope form. The process is rather slow, with every aspect experienced by the host as their body painfully morphing into an animalistic form over the course of several hours, with skin stretching, bones breaking and muscles exploding in size as animalistic features such as fur or scales grow out.

Stage 4: End Stage - The affected have now reached the final stage and have fully transformed into their Lycanthrope form.

Types of Lycanthropes

Many species and sub-species of Lycanthropes have been documented within the Backrooms, with canine & feline Lycanthropes being the most commonly infected, while pandas, insectoid, & fish-like specimens are highly uncommon. While most infected by the disease are highly aggressive, there are, on rare occasions, passive infected instances, described as “gentle giants”. Test results presently remain inconclusive on the effects of Lycanthropy on the Ravager Apes of Level 989

Intelligent Lycanthropes

Although very rare (1 in 100,000), there have been cases of Wanderers infected with Lycanthropy that retain their human minds and have become a rare form of intelligent Lycanthrope. There are even rumors of entire clans of intelligent Lycanthropes of all types. Intelligent Lycanthropes can be identified by the use of tools and improvised clothing and being capable of human speech.

The Wolven

The Wolven are a species of Lycanthrope that are intelligent Werewolf-like people, who are once again wanderers who were turned, but for a different reason. The Fang is a plant, much like cannabis, that turns wanderers into Wolven when ingested. These wanderers retain their intelligence and everything, as only their appearance changes. They mainly populate Level 54, but can be found in other levels too.
