Welcome wanderer, you have been assigned in this mission selected by the researchers and agents.
Receiving the Towers' mental hazard effect is part of a Mental Threshold Index evaluation.
The sound you are experiencing is the Signals it broadcast, affecting your psyche.
Pleasing standby for your evaluation.

An anomalous Class Ψ level. It has been classified by the efforts of M.E.G. and Backroom Colonists. Information of this data are merely briefed and summarize as it is strictly forbidden to enter as it is only allowed for the assigned wanderers, preferably experienced and has high Mental Threshold Index.
Description[]
A vast desolate city-based level, it is dark and its sky were predominantly red. Its environment are dangerous to navigate due to this level's dilapidated buildings and its surface could collapsed and fall down.
It is also contaminated with pockets of radiation which obstructed to navigate unless with protection gears and preventative equipment should pass of it unharmed.
It is noted this level poses considerable of threat due to the capacity of broadcasting its anomalous signals to nearby levels and any devices.
Place Of Interest[]
The Towers[]
There are several structures that are constructed for some time ago and are responsible for broadcasting which can be seen through the distance.
Properties[]
Its properties are different from those of any other Class Ψ levels and its mental hazards which driving the victim insane and gradually transforming them into Wretches, instead this properties attack the victims' nervous systems and cognitive functions until they eventually lead to death.
This also expands its anomalous signals further, potentially reaching other nearby levels.
Entrances and Exits[]
It is strictly forbidden to enter these levels, they are guarded by several M.E.G. and Backroom Colonist personnel and other groups in the collaborated effort of containing this level spread.
Colonies and Outposts[]
As mentioned from before, there are no colonies or outposts established within the main levels instead several checkpoints are guarded by personnel away from the entrances of these levels.
Occasionally, they were attacked by these entities but it is manageable to handle these situations.

You're here, welcome. Out of all of the wanderers, you guys are the only ones who can resists and last long from its broadcast coming from that Tower, and you already know why we brought you here, right? If you want see more details and some contexts, I'll leave it here. Or if you don't want it then you just skip it.
Take your time.It is discovered this level is one of the Marauders' territory, they must have conquered this undiscovered level from some time ago then repurposed it into a sort of "weaponized" level as their means to deter anyone attempt entering their territories while converting them and add to their army.
This is the first an instance of what the Marauders are capable of, when converting a level, that has ever been documented.
Description
The tower can be seen in the distance. This was taken when the Tower was seemingly constructed from some time ago before.
An unusual Class Ψ level. It is strictly discouraged to enter this level due to the serious threat posed by the mental hazard it poses. Unless a wanderer has a Mental Threshold Index[1] of 4.5 or higher[2], they may be allowed to study for a limited period of time, depending on how long they last, with permission from the administrator.
It's a huge, barren area littered with ruins. However, a closer examination suggests that there appear to be its traces of conflict in this area, among them numerous shootings, explosions, and broad devastation from undiscovered unconventional weapons. Some claim to be in a dead forest, while others are in a frozen wasteland, and so on. The only constant appears to be the building known as the "Tower," which is located there and is visible from a distance.
Particularly for this level, the sky is mostly red and the environment is dark. There are various large machines scattered throughout the level, including cables, hatches, and other items. These machines are either arranged neatly and orderly or haphazardly suggesting that they are connected to some other source and have unidentified purposes.
However, it is risky to travel through as it is contaminated with pockets of radiation, requiring the use of protective gear and equipment to pass safely while avoiding some unstable and hazardous environments, as both the surface and the buildings may collapse due to disrepair.
Place Of Interest
The Tower
An array of tall structures that can be spotted from distance simply by their vibrant glow it emits. These structures are similar to telecommunications towers, which are used to operate these anomalous transmissions as a whole:
- A towering structure that resembles a radio mast, it reaches 900m tall and covers a 20 m2 area, and above its structure is a pulsing red and/or violet glow that is said to be the source of the Signals it broadcast as it stands in the middle surrounded by smaller structures.
- Smaller structures that resemble cellular towers normally number around 3-5 structures, arranged in a circular pattern around the main structure, which is attached by smaller poles with wires that support its stability. These buildings, which stand roughly 200m tall and span an area of 30 m2, have all of their panels facing away from the main structure, which is thought to be their method of dispersing the Signals afar and transmitting it to any unsuspecting communication devices.
Signal Properties
Its properties are different from the rest of Level Class Ψ's mental hazard effects as it does not turn the victim into Wretches.
Instead, these dangerous effects emitted by this Tower can be heard within an affected area through auditory hallucinations, and on rare occasions, visual hallucinations, though the range and intensity of these Signals vary and unpredictable as some instances were lethal or subtle yet enough to feel the effects of it, this Signals can be visibly seen as a pillar of red light, grossly distorted resembling a data corruption.
Devices has been infected and emitting the Signal due by the Tower it broadcast. It was found in Level 4 after a wanderer left their belongings. This was promptly destroyed.
These anomalous Signals can propagate much further from their initial level by broadcasting to devices, but doing so would infect and destroy them, rendering them as emitters of Signal anomalies. Only those wanderers with a high Mental Threshold Index can withstand these anomalies for much longer before succumbing to their effects, and any exposure beyond their limitations will result in death.
Its range and patterns are undetermined, yet some assume that it contacted surrounding levels and/or any available devices, and then slowly expanded within their confined areas until it could propagate to another target.
If the victim felt by this Signal will initially experience them, generally with deafening ear ringing or impaired vision, followed by the manifestation of during and after effects, which include but are not limited to:
- Auditory hallucinations (Described deafening sounds of incoherent voices)
- Visual hallucinations
- Fatigue
- Recurring Nightmares
- Hampered motor functions
Furthermore, if the victims are exposed to these Signals for an extended period of time, depending on their Mental Threshold Index, they will progress to the second phase and experience symptoms similar to migraines, but some will be more severe, such as bleeding from the ears, eyes, and/or nose, indicating the later stage of lethal mental hazard effects. These effects will gradually deteriorate the victims' neural and cognitive functions, severely affecting the victims psychologically.
Here is a list of some of the aftereffects that victims experience:
- Dissociative Disorder
- Sleep Paralysis
- Aphasia
- Prosopagnosia
- Paralysis (Mild to Severe)
- Dementia
However, in the first phase of these conditions, these can be treated, however the effects may linger depending on the intensity of the exposure to the Signals prior to the second phase. And once a victim have reach to its second phase, the damage is irreversible, with no means of treating the victims, including Almond Water or any anomalous objects, thus impossible.
If the victims have finally reached their limit, they will either collapse and die on the spot or convulse and die later.
Expansion
The Signal anomaly poses a significant threat due to the Tower's broadcasting, though the expansion is slow yet steady in its pace while its effects are no doubt lethal should the victims ever contacted of it.
Experts believe the Signals will spread roughly 3 meters per month from the main source, but it may quickly spread through broadcasting to any devices if multiple devices are present in multiple areas (or potentially levels), which can be resolved by destroying the affected devices, but given the unpredictable nature of the Backrooms, it could reach any unsuspecting victims with low Mental Threshold Index to any levels unnoticed, perhaps that could potentially lead to high casualties.
If the Signals continue expanding unchecked, some levels will eventually become a part of that level. This should not be taken lightly and be vigilant should this anomalies manifest elsewhere.
Fortunately, these transmissions can be terminated using a specialized jammers designed specifically for the eradication of Signals. It hinders their expansion until they eventually become white noise thereby removing its dangerous properties. However, it is costly to produce this equipment, and may be damaged if the Signals become too overwhelming for the jammers to handle. It must be placed in strategic locations and levels, and it must be constantly monitored within levels (preferably safer levels), and any suspecting affected devices will be apprehended for dismantling.
Entrances and Exits
It is only permitted for assigned wanderers, preferably with a high Mental Threshold Index, to travel for a few hours at a time, and are allowed to enter the checkpoint via a notice from the experts and the captain's permission given by the director and who oversees from the nearby M.E.G./Colonists forward base to permit with their assigned expedition.
To discern on how to enter is simple as the guards will station at nearby entry, its distinctive aspect are dark areas with weak glow and these can be heard of its broadcast. The exit will be the same as the entry.
It should be noted there are possibility of the entering and exiting this level is unreliable as some wanderers will most likely emerge from different levels instead of their initial entrance.
And in some incidents, other entrances leading to this level are manifested that are not known to the groups, posing an additional risk that has yet to be addressed.
Colonies and Outposts
As previously stated, no colonies or outposts have been constructed within the main levels, instead checkpoints are established, guarded by personnel aside from nearby entrances of these levels.
They were occasionally attacked by these entities, but these situations are manageable.
Entities
Be warned, there have been reports of Marauder presence within this level, likely guarding their territory, however it is unclear how many of the major Marauders are available, however, sub-entities are present in particular to guard the Tower.
Subverted Entities
The victims who have now been designated as entities, they are dead yet retain enough of their brain functions enough to move and use any objects as tools or weapons and the they are aggressive to non-affected people. The hordes are consists of wanderers and entities.
Unlike those converted by the Marauders with their distinctive mechanical eyes, the mouths and eyes of these entities emanate a bright red glow. Their movement is sluggish and shuffling due to a lack of balance, and they are easy to eliminate, but never underestimate their massive numbers as they will move in hordes, and if any of these entities notice, the majority of them will follow suit.
As mentioned before, they may use anything as weapons if a wanderer or any humanoid entity becomes a Subverted Entity even so when they are capable of wielding and operating firearms, albeit highly inaccurate. As the victims' nerve systems have been reduced their pain threshold is nonexistent, making killing these entities difficult until the head is destroyed.
These entities can be seen wandering aimlessly and no-clipped to one level and then another throughout the Backrooms, but the majority of them can be located there where they gather together to migrate to the Tower in its level.
Additional Information
Addendum PT-Ψ/13
With each passing day, the number of victims, both wanderers and entities, has recently increased to over 1,000, as a result of the effects of Signals from all levels. It is unknown how many entrances lead to these levels, however, given the nature of the Backrooms and the lack of resources and manpower required to properly set up several checkpoints, containing anyone who enters these levels is impossible.
Entity Encounter: Variant Ψ "Dictator"
A Dictator appeared and raided in one of a Colonist base. This variant attack with an arc of lightning onto victims. No survivors have found, including their bodies.
Some of the wanderers have recently discovered a new Marauder variant, hereby designated as "Dictator," its properties are identical to the Tower and its Signals however more dangerous and active as evident to utilize and directing their Signals to their targets.
They can attack multiple targets at once, distorting their victims' perception and even physiological functions enough to be harmful to the victim's body causes them to incapacitate or occasionally damage it. Interestingly, if their victims are happened to be entities, especially with anomalous properties, are more vulnerable to their assault.
Moreover, their notorious method of attack are the bolts of red lightning[3] via physical contact from the lightning or simply visual contact from these entities causes severe damage to their nervous system leading to their agonizing deaths, or if they survive, the victims will leave permanent damage on some parts of their bodies and various psychological disorders.
Moreover, they can transmitting through devices much like how the Tower operates. However, they are not capable of propagate to seemingly compensate of their manipulation of lightning.
An instance of a Dictator's attack, it uses through a victim's phone. This attack was a coincidence as this victim was a higher-up belonging of some group.
They are also responsible of the creation of these Subverted Entities as Dictators will use dead victims to resurrect causes the corpses' mouths and eyes to brightly glow red. They coordinate the hordes with undetermined range and limits, and it is assume these entities share information with the Dictators.
Its appearance are vague, the remaining survivors who have encountered from that variant before described as them wearing overcoats and helmets which gives a semblance of Frontrooms' dictators, this description assumes their roles as sort of commanding officers or overseeing their army or within their respective levels.
Recovered Footage PΨ ██ ██ ████ 16:04
A small outpost stationed in an undisclosed level where engineers and other personnel that underwent early development of the jammers in response to the threat and in an effort of counteract the Marauders' "weaponized level," the Tower and its Signals.
The schematic of the jammers are strictly confidential with only access to few trusted members leading this project in order to prevent the Marauders from gaining this information.
This footage have been recovered after the outpost has been attacked. Do note the half of the portion of the video has been corrupted due to the Signals' exposure but managed to isolated its mental hazard effects.
<Begin Log>
Adrian █████: Day 159 of the first development of the jammer. Just a little recalibration and...
[Jammer activates]
Bella █████: Done yet?
Adrian █████: Almost done, we just have to make sure this baby can handle the stress from the Signal. Once finished, we'll cram out as many as we can.
Bella █████: We hope so, those things are cost to make. You really don't how much trouble we went just to get those stuff from some Deadzone-class Levels.
Adrian █████: I know and that's why can't afford of wastin' it.
[Staff Joshua █████, holding two coffee, enter the workshop]
Joshua █████: You look like shit. Coffee?
Adrian █████: Yeah, haven't enough sleep from yesterday, just put there in the table.
Joshua █████: You really need to sleep, man, don't wanna see you turn into a Wretch.
Adrian █████: I've seen a lot worse than that but those things... I'd rather turn into that than from the Tower's.
[Jammer emitting static noise and the TV located at the corner of the workshop starts to flicker. The camera and its portion of this footage began to corrupt difficult to watch]
Adrian █████: What?
[Joshua's body went stiff then suddenly starting to shake, groaning in pain. He dropped his coffee then collapse and suffer from a violent seizure]
Bella █████: Josh? Josh?! Adrian!
Adrian █████: Hold on! I'll send-
[A red lightning burst of Joshua's head, screaming in pain in a distorted sound then died afterwards]
Adrian █████: Fuck!
Bella █████: What's happening?!
Adrian █████: Shit, it's them! We gonna warn everyone before-
[Distorted sound of screams and panic from the crowd leading some staff members dying from a Marauder's attack]
Bella █████: Josh...
[Bella became distraught]
Adrian █████: Look at me - Look at me! We need to leave now! I'll carry the jammers-
[Joshua's body began twitch and slowly rising up but Adrian shot him in the head, killing Joshua twice in the process]
Adrian █████: I'm sorry... Come on, hurry!
<End log>
Upon closer inspection, it was a lone Dictator variant who attacked the outpost counting 37 on-site staff members died but 8 survivors have made it out alive and retrieve the jammer and its schematic thus continuing with the project.
It remained undetermined how they managed to locate the outpost, it is possible a Marauder somehow trace the jammer's feedback when Adrian █████ runs a test. The members were relocated and far away from nearby Tower's undetermined range.
Fortunately, the project that they are working are finished and begun the production while they are still continue to develop the jammers through iterations to improve its reliability.Footnotes
- ↑ A term that denotes of a wanderer's mental resistance to any mental hazards before the effects are manifested. In short: person's mental fortitude.
- ↑ Higher index denotes last longer when a wanderer introduced to a mental hazard, though it is uncertain as the anomaly can be overwhelming if unprepared.
- ↑ Giving the infamous term of their attack pattern, simply the "Lobotomy."
Right. Back to our discussion.
You guys are here to silence that Tower - shutting down the Signal it broadcast but impossible to go down there to its source, luckily our R&D department found a solution of it, they explain a lot of stuff about those things, so to make it short: They made jammers to stop its broadcast by turning it into white noise, that way a lot of wanderers can be safe, probably including entities, from becoming of those things.
Your job is to go inside of that level - well outside of its radius where you guys can handle of its broadcast. It'll be five team with members of three as each one of you would carry these, spread out as far as you go then place it down and these have to be surrounding it, in theory, it'll cut the Signal off to some places but I doubt those computers and phones and some gizmos are going back to normal, but it'll have to do.
And you gotta be careful though, that place looks like it's gonna collapse if you take one wrong step and it was scattered with radiation so take those counters with you.
And then there's a problem... it's possible one of them gonna patrolling their own area especially where you guys gonna snuck in so if you do just hide and keep moving. But what I really concerned to face with one of them is this bastard.
Like here.
They called them Dictators, basically walking Tower bastards and they said there's more of them, they thought, but I doubt it as to my experience, and so far, only this one is guarding in that level, that image I showed you is the same guy who attacked one of the Colonists' outpost that I was stationed with, I guess the more dangerous these guys are, the fewer and rarer they are.
But this one is the worst... I can hear of their distorted screams - all of them dying in agony from just a simple glare at them... I still remembered few of us were barely make it out of alive but one of my men... he just reduced into a paranoid mess with mind of a toddler yet can't bring myself to put him out of misery... not enough balls to do so.
Speaking of Dictators, if any one of you ever feel woozy or have your vision all messed up, then all of your team need to go back to the base and take some rest the other will take in your place, I don't wanna lose you turn into one of those so whatever you do, don't disobey our orders and avoid them as much as possible.
And let me remind you again, you put those things down then go back and be done with it. Simple as that. Staying anything longer than that then they'll know what's up and track you down, if that happens spread out we can't risk it to know what we're doing.
And you ever felt something wrong at the back of your mind for some reason then it means that guy's know where you are, it's not worth fighting back, so just fall back and hope you can make it out alive.
Briefing's done. Anyone clear? Good.
And one more thing, if were ever done - don't pat yourselves on your backs, it's not over yet. It's not one level but there more of these and one of them happen to be place it near with us.
Should if we ever bust that Tower down then... they'll know we're fighting back and they'll definitely don't like it.
But we need to get rid these bastards and show them that they don't belong in the Backrooms.
Now then, everyone, make yourselves at home for few days, my guys will guide you in your rooms to sleep. Once all of you ready, pack your things and with those jammers.
And remember. We can't afford failing this.
