"Would you rather see where you're going, or see where you came from?"

The Maze of Vents is a newly classified sublevel in the backrooms, but with a still unidentified main level. There is a speculation it could be a sub-level of Level 11, however this is majorly unconfirmed.

Survival Difficulty: Class 3e - Environmental
》Unsafe
》Unsecure
》Non-Entity Hazards

No entities have been documented as of writing, but their existence inside has been theorized by expeditionaries and researchers. However, without concrete evidence, the survival class is still set to 3e.

Description

The Maze of Vents is a newly documented level in the backrooms. This level is a maze of what is written to be thousands upon thousands of vents, with an indeterminate size due to it's still highly mysterious nature. Although very few logs have been recovered, they all said the same thing.

"Do not look away."

This text has been interpreted to mean that anything that leaves anything's line of sight will immediately be subject to change. Entrances can shift, walls may warp and twist, and holes and damages seem to get repaired instantaneously. According to Dietrich, any objects that you lose sight/touch of, will be teleported somewhere inside the maze.

So far, there have been three expeditions, each comprised of five people, but none have returned as of writing.

A hypothesized "Center" has been formulated, but with the ambiguity of Dietrich's log, only the return of the expeditionaries will be able to prove its existence. It is believed to no longer change outside of sight, and can contain holes that radiate a faint orange light. The air is said to smell and feel much better beside these holes.

The actual layout of this level appears to be an extremely thin tunnel, with vents connecting each side. It is extremely dark and claustrophobic in here and the fact that it is theorised to be impossible to leave makes it a literal hellscape for humans. This level is just a good example of what physical and psychological torture are like.

Dietrich's Diary (Translated)

11/02/??

This is Dietrich Weller. I am a maintenance worker, and I arrived here when I entered through a vent in Level 11. I have been doing this job ever since I got in this city. It has been three days inside these mazes, and I am writing in case anybody unfortunate stuck here with me stumbles upon this journal. If you see this notebook, please, PLEASE.

Please do not take your eyes off of it.

If you are here with me, do not bother asking for help. Nobody's coming.

Don't try to pierce the metals. Because the moment you blink, whatever dent you've created in this thing will be gone.

11/03/??

Sometimes I wonder, what if I find somebody here? Would I feel fortunate to find someone to talk to, to veer away the insanity looming over myself? No, that's impossible. Heck, If I've already found somebody, I wouldn't be writing this journal in the first place.

11/04/??

I am parched, and starving. I want just a little water. If I could only drink this dust. There's so much of them.

There seems to be others in here with me. I can't tell if it's just the maze or if there are others too. The dust seems to change thickness, I can feel it. I've been in complete darkness for I can't tell anymore. My sense of touch has heightened to the point where I can feel the dust moving with the fetid air. I can feel it thinning out sometimes, sometimes thickening. I have no idea how I somehow haven't lost this notebook yet, but maybe because I always place it inside my pocket.

11/06/??

I'm probably hallucinating. I can feel something. Finally, a bottle. There's something in here! Finally, something to drink. I just shoved the bottle into my shirt, I can't lose it.

I have a bad feeling about this. But come on, why would somebody leave a bottle of liquid pain in a damn vent? I gotta drink first, I'm placing this thing in my pocket.

This is probably my end. True enough, liquid pain. I feel like I just got stabbed in the stomach. I'll probably pass out.

11/07/??

I can feel my muscles breaking. I feel the pus in my legs as they lubricate my limbs and gather dust. I can't even write properly anymore. To anybody that finds this journal, best of luck to you. Maybe I can be lucky too, I found this orange light. I'm going there right now.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to its mysterious reality-bending and potentially dangerous nature, there are currently no outposts in the Maze. However, some organizations plan to use this level to enter and exit any level they desire, but this method is still unreliable and poses the risk of getting lost forever in the darkness. Currently, 2 people have tried to set up this plan yet failed miserably. One is presumed missing, maybe forever, the other has been reported to have escaped yet mysteriously dissapeared afterwards.

There have only been 5 expeditions inside, but there are many more planned to map out the maze and find any patterns on its shifting walls, and potentially how this maze is capable of bending spatial reality.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Any vent inside the backrooms gives you an extremely tiny chance to get stuck in this maze that bends spatial reality.
  • This includes any level, ranging from the safe level 11 to the most dangerous negative levels.
  • The holes in Level 39997 have a 0.08% chance to send you here, completely losing every item you had on you.

Exits (Theoretical)

  • Busting through the metal without anyone losing sight of it can let you exit, according to Dietrich, but it is unknown where it leads.
  • There is a hypothetical center of the maze, where the vents will no longer change.

Exits (Real)
