ROLOGUE

Day 0

My name is Doctor Kobie Fischer. I am an Australian scientist, I study quantum physics, and for years I have theorised about something unusual existing beyond our reality. It began with the disappearance of my 8 year old brother when I was 15. He was playing tag with his friends at school, when he went missing. His friends said they saw him trip and fall through the floor. He was never heard from again.

Then I heard about other missing people, witnesses all said they had gone through a wall or the floor. I chased some leads. One person had disappeared, and later come back. He was being treated for PTSD, and so I went to talk to him. He told me all about the Backrooms. The endless expanse of rooms wandered by Facelings, Partygoers, and things even more mysterious. I couldn't believe it at first. An entire civilization, living in a seeming hell. The more I thought about it though, the more I was convinced.

If you are at all like me, you know about the multiverse theory, grounded in quantum physics. If someone else finds this, I'll put it simply for you. Throughout our life, and the entirety of time by extension, we make choices. We remain on our timeline, but it branches of. Every decision we make, an alternate universe is made, which is formed by what would've happened should we have made a different decision. These can be formed by anything from choosing Porridge instead of Weet-Bix for breakfast, to choosing whether or not to kill a man.

After all I'd learned about the Backrooms, I was certain that it was simply an alternate universe. I was driven by knowledge though, and that led me to make a foolish mistake. One that I would regret for the rest of my life.

So in other words, not for long.

CHAPTER 1: THE LOBBY

Day 1

My name is Doctor Kobie Fischer. I am an Australian scientist, I study quantum physics, and for years I have theorised about something unusual existing beyond our reality.

And today, I got a good look at it.

It was about midday. It had been 10 years since I found out about the backrooms, and I'd had no further leads. To put it simply, I was frustrated. I didn't think I had any options left, so I made the greatest mistake of my life. I packed some food and water, a laptop, some camping gear, and a backpack. And I ran into a wall.

Or rather, I ran through the wall. I had done it. I was in the Backrooms. And it took until now for me to realise what a bad idea this was. I immediately turned around and tried to go back through the wall, but I was stuck. So, I set about searching for an exit. After several hours of searching, I was exhausted and decided to settle down, try and sleep. I saw a good alcove where I would have a hard time being seen, and unpacked my camping gear.

I lay down on my sleeping bag, and thought. The Backrooms. A place beyond reality, where I might just find my brother. I just had to not die before then. I had a hard time sleeping. Something was nagging at the back of my mind. I then remembered it; a wall I went past, it had a web address on it. I'd memorised the address, and so I pulled out my laptop and typed it in, with the wi-fi that was somehow there. And what do you know, it's this website. I found out about Level 0, but that's as far as I got before I realised I needed to sleep. I took a quick inventory check and wrote it down, and headed to sleep.
