Water Chaos

Description[]

Oceanic Chaos, also known as "The Chaotic Waters", is a turbulent mass of constantly flowing water where no solid land exists. The gravity and currents in the level, while unchanging from their current state, are chaotic; this is apparent wherever one is in the level. Currents never completely follow one gravitational axis and are always leading randomly throughout Oceanic Chaos to the point where they often even run oppositely parallel to each other. Every area in the level, while typically vast in size, is enclosed within surreal formations of flowing water, often containing waterfalls resulting from the extremely altered gravity. Fortunately, the shifts between gravitational alignments are smooth and the water has an unnaturally high buoyancy, minimizing the risk of one drowning.

The geometry within Oceanic Chaos is also quite chaotic, partly due to the presence of Phenomenon 14. In addition, however, simply descending into any of the waters' depths will result in one re-emerging in another area or aquatic level entirely regardless of location or gravitational angle, though the former is more likely. In such a situation, one will be strongly propelled to their destination once they reach the gravitational divergence between the two areas. This is almost impossible to occur by accident due to the water's high buoyancy. The constantly disturbed state of the water ensures that one can never see possible shifts between future arrival points of this nature, perhaps meaning that this is actually also Shifting Geometry in effect.

Regardless, it is possible that this anomaly also reacts differently to Object 3 in that it instantly filters the substance out of the level when it enters before it can spread and cause irreparable damage. If this is not the case, then it is probable that the level has a natural cleansing effect that counters the infection, as this would certainly explain how the substance has not already corrupted Oceanic Chaos given the level's common aquatic-based entry.

Light in the level inexplicably originates from random areas in the air and can sometimes even be discerned from other areas through geometrically shifting water if one is close enough. Despite their randomness, however, these light anomalies provide more than sufficient light throughout the entire level, albeit never enough to be blinding.

Wanderers who enter Oceanic Chaos almost never remain there for very long, as the constantly moving currents typically always lead to a giant water tunnel that leads directly to another level. Whether or not one attempts to contribute to their own movement in the water usually does not make much of a difference to which level they end up in.

Entities[]

No entities have ever been reported in Oceanic Chaos, although due to the lack of thorough documentation of the level, their existence there cannot be denied for certain.

Colonies & Outposts[]

No colonies or outposts can be established in this level.

Entrances & Exits[]

Entrances[]

  • Venturing into the far reaches of Level 7 may lead one here; the entrance could take the form of a transitional water barrier reminiscent of those in Oceanic Chaos or a giant tunnel of water.
  • Extremely rarely, moving at high speeds within water anywhere in the Backrooms may transport one here.

Exits[]

  • One will almost always end up in a giant water tunnel leading directly to a random level. Much like the rest of Oceanic Chaos, these tunnels have random flows and occasionally flow away from the very level they lead to; nevertheless, entering a tunnel that allows access to its destination is usually inevitable.
  • Travelling deep enough into the level's waters may occasionally send one to a random aquatic level.
