What are Phenomena?

Phenomena are a plethora of strange, unexplainable occurrences which occur within the Backrooms — unexplained, unnatural irregularities that are typically not fully understood. Phenomena are known for defying laws of physics, pushing the boundaries of ideas such as time and Euclidean geometry, bending reality, and dipping it into the unreal.

From passing through solid matter, mysterious rituals, lethal environments that occur naturally within a given space, inanimate objects becoming animate, to a room suddenly appearing completely different after one blinks, phenomena can include a wide array of useful or inexplicable events. It is advised to use caution when exploring levels that are unexplored or poorly understood, as there is no reasonable way to know exactly what the unknown has in store.

Phenomenon Occurrence Rating

  • Unknown: While confirmed to occur, the existence & which levels these occur in are completely undetermined.
  • Level (#): The phenomenon exclusively occurs in that level.
  • Majority but mainly on level (#): The phenomenon occurs on a majority of other levels but mainly on that level.
  • Neutralised: The phenomenon has been halted.
  • Rare: The phenomenon occurs on less than 5 levels.
  • Uncommon: The phenomenon occurs on at least a dozen levels.
  • Common: The phenomenon occurs on more than 20 levels.
  • Majority: The phenomenon occurs on over 50% of levels.
  • Many: The phenomenon occurs on a myriad of levels.
  • The Backrooms: The phenomenon occurs on every level and the Backrooms as a whole.
"LP" means "Logged Phenomenon", and are used for parts of the Phenomenon List where there is very little documention, so all numeral values are not provided. Phenomenon can still be added to these.
