An image of a Rattler- oh, right, they’ve never been seen…

Description

Rattlers are well hidden creatures that roam the Backrooms, no one has ever seen a Rattler and lived. But I have, that’s why I write this page so no one will make my mistake…please, god it wasn’t my fault, I didn’t meant to send them to their death-

If a Rattler's face is somehow observed, the observer who viewed it's face will go insane and start crying, 45 seconds later the observer will kill themselves.

No one has ever seen a Rattler, they are masters of striking from the darkness and it is unknown if they even have a physical form, they’ll just drag you into the darkness before you get a chance to turn around (I’m so sorry Benny…). Fortunately, they are characterised by the rattling sound they make, very similar to a rattlesnakes. This is how you tell if one is nearby, DO NOT MISTAKE IT FOR ANYTHING ELSE, IT IS A RATTLER, IT IS, IT IS, IT İ̶̧̢͓̠̘̼͈̟̏͂̍͑͒̀́̑̽͝Ş̵͍̿̔̀ͅ

Habitats: Level 206, potentially can exist in any level with dark areas.

Rattlers are predatory and enjoy messing with their prey, they won’t kill you straight away but will constantly make their rattling sound, this is purely to drive you mad, they love the mad ones, that’s their favourite victim. They also have unparalleled speed, even if you were to run and never stop you would still hear their rattle, this is because they are moving at the same speed with you to make it seem like you aren’t moving at all. That in turn is one of their tactics for maddening, constantly rattling and moving with them to make it seem like there is no progress being made at all.

There is only one way to escape a Rattler, beeline straight for a source of light. Don’t think about the Smilers that will be drawn to it, think about the excruciating torturous things the Rattlers will do to you. Rattlers are not dumb however, if they sense you are trying to escape them and can escape them then they will abandon their main objective of driving you insane to just kill you then and there. You have a low chance of escaping but if it works you will be safe. And I know what you’re thinking, DO NOT drink Almond Water, they are deathly smart, they will know when they can’t drive you insane and will just kill you instead.

Update: Smilers and Rattlers actually have a rivalry, it started when a Smiler attacked and killed the victim of a Rattler, this infuriated the Rattler and it actually managed to drive the Smiler insane. The Smiler underwent drastic changes, it began frowning and it’s face began glitching and it would constantly try to get away from the Rattler. The other Smilers ended up attacking and actually killing the Rattler. The Rattlers, being smart, made Smilers public enemy number 1 to their kind. Rattlers will actually go out of their way to torment a Smiler instead of a wanderer, same can be said for the Smilers.

How to deal with Rattlers

What you should do

  • Try to focus on staying sane, the more you struggle the more likely you are to lose your marbles.
  • Try to find a Smiler, as stated above Smilers and Rattlers will attack each other on sight, then you can run.
  • If all else fails, then run, run until you find a light, this won’t keep you safe from Smilers but it’s better to have a Smiler attack you than to have a Rattler torment you.

What you shouldn’t do

  • Panic, that just makes the Rattler more and more entertained, and it won’t help your sanity.
  • Sleep, you will just be woken up, and sometimes instead of being shoved you will be beaten until you awake.
  • Use weapons or fists, because of the Rattlers speed you might as well be firing or swinging at complete darkness, and you’ll just waste energy and get more tired, the longer you stay awake, the better.

"I spent weeks with that one Rattler, I couldn’t kill it and it wouldn’t kill me, if I tried to sleep it would wake me up with a shove, by the time I escaped I practically had to drown myself in Almond Water, but it still wasn’t enough. Suddenly the creature came to the borders of my light source, it scratched something on the floor and I heard a soft thunk. I waited a day to make sure it had definitely left, then I move my light towards the spot, there was Super Almond Water on the ground, and a message that read ‘That was the best fun I’ve had in ages, and you even managed to get away, what a lively subject for me to play with :), you’ll need this. Just in case you come across another Aksiejwe.’”

Log

Chronological order of following events

  • Three wanderers are camping in a dark area, laughing to each other and telling jokes.
  • Suddenly, a rattling noise can be heard.
  • The youngest wanderer asks the other two to go check it out.
  • The other two talk for a little bit then decide to check it out
  • Suddenly, one is grasped and dragged screaming into the darkness
  • The other two, terrified, bolt for it in the other direction
  • The rattling doesn’t get any quieter, but it doesn’t get any louder either, like it’s moving at the exact same speed as both of them
  • Suddenly, one trips over and calls for the younger one to help them.
  • Darkness is creeping over the older one and the younger one bites their lip
  • After a little bit of deciding he finally says ”I’m sorry Benny…”
  • He runs off…
  • The creature is still following him and eventually he stops, panting, the light flash gets away from him, farther into the hallway. He closes his eyes and waits for death to come, but it doesn’t. It’s almost like the creature wanted the others to die purely to make this one survivor even more insane
  • He tries to stay awake for as long as possible, he believes the creature won’t attack if he stays awake, but eventually sleep comes to him…
  • He is in a field, two people are playing in front of him, he realises Benny and the other unnamed wanderer, Bess…
  • They invite him to play and he tries to run to them but dark tendrils wrap around him and drag him away, he tries to push forwards but is flung back by the tendrils.
  • He awakes, startled out of his dream as a tendril retreats back into the darkness.
  • The rattling has not stopped, how long will this go on for, days? Weeks? Months? Y̵̧͔̳̙̳̯͖̼̫̔͆͝Ȇ̷̡̛͖̥͉͖̮͉̲̗̅̈̽͐̈́͗͆̇̋͘̕A̴̡͇͈̥̦̙͙̗͑̉̾̒̍̍̍̂̚R̴͎͕͇̙̄̆̓̿̒̐͜͠S̸̨͈̩͖̍͊͒͊̋̎̉͘̕͘?
  • It’s been weeks, he has survived off of rations but will run out soon, he’s hallucinating now, it was also his birthday a few days ago and his friends were there to sing to him, he reached out to hug them as they disappeared, a sound in the darkness, just a rattle but he could swear it was more of a… pleased rattle?. He makes up his mind on the suicide plan he has come up with.
  • He bolts off into the darkness and doesn’t stop, he makes it to a lantern on the ground. A light source that won’t move.
  • He reaches the lantern and the rattling stops, then there’s the scratching and soft thud. We all know where it goes from here…
  • After drinking the Super Almond Water he reminisces the pain, now that his head has cleared from insanity he has time to think about what has happened, he thinks about it, I think about. WE thought about it. I’ll have to make a page on this creature so this never happens again…
