Victories for the R.E.U.!
We have won back the Power District and successfully defended the Transportation District from one of the largest army's the R.E.U.'s seen yet. The Royal Backrooms Monarch personally commends the leaders: Captain John Eggs and Captain Ryan Goodfall for their outstanding leadership. Without each other, there would have been an overwhelming chance of their loss. The Power District has very few facilities at the moment due to the attacks but power will be restored shortly! This reduces Atrego-claimed territory solely down to the Mining District.

We have bridged over rivers, tunneled through mountains and we have survived being sent to hell. No obstacle, big or small will stop us. Persevere. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Giving up is nought but a shame. We can't let the Ecotopia and the Party win.
Summary:[]
We are a group dedicated to making the entirety of the Backrooms safe. After over one hundred years of going undiscovered, we have finally reached the database. We are now exploring and colonising levels like any other group in the Backrooms. What sets us apart is our fierce determination, no matter the danger level (excepting deadzone for obvious reasons); if it has sustainable food and water, we'll try to inhabit it.
Our purpose is to bring the entire Backrooms into unity. We aim to become a hub for civilisation and trading and to bring all wanderers of the Backrooms together by establishing colonies in safer levels and leading wanderers out of the dangers of unsafe levels. We do not want to colonise every level in the Backrooms and keep it for ourselves as there are definitely enough levels for everyone. To avoid turf wars, we will only colonise levels that do not have any colonies within them yet. This includes levels that we discover as well as levels with extremely dangerous properties.
Genesis (1882-1915):[]
The Royal Exploration Unit was first established[1], away from all other society in 1897. A small amount of people from a group named New Britain found themselves in Level 248 in approximately 1882. The exits to this level did not function at this point in time, so they were forced to construct some form of settlement. While only later mapping revealed the true shape of the level, many of the members all felt that they were home. Over time, people started clipping straight from The Frontrooms to this level. Specifically from Britain. In 1893, there was a small, informal hierarchy of people. Generally, everyone had the same goal, to start a civilisation. The level definitely seemed big enough to support a growing populace and it is estimated that the Capital District, then named "New London," had its early infrastructure completed[2]. When it came time to decide on a government, there was disagreement among the people as the population was growing fast. The tensions were rising and people were preparing to fight for power. As the legend goes, the first Royal Backrooms Monarch, George Windsor stood up in the centre of the then "New London" and told everyone,
““We came from nothing and it had not even been 20 years since we have broken free from the bliss of immediate danger and what have we done? We have now decided to become the danger. This simply will not do. Humanity is weak but that does not mean it can't be strong. Our swords shall not be drawn toward each other but with each other. We are not enemies, we are allies. If blood is to be drawn by none other but the same, I do not wish to see it. Therefore, if anyone is to be murdered or executed, let it first be me and if you cannot kill me, one who will not fight back, you cannot kill each other. Humanity's weakness is believing ourselves to be the strongest. Each and every one of you believe you will win and you cannot imagine it any other way. I know that deep inside your hearts, you are not ready to die and so is everyone else. Lay down your curses and fists.”

There are multiple accounts of what happened next. One account states that everyone immediately rejoiced and nominated him King for his brave words which sees high skepticism from many. A second account states that one person walked towards him and hit him repeatedly, until blood flew from his mouth and he collapsed. The individual proceeded to keep kicking him until the rest of the people pulled him away and proceeded to execute him quietly before only then appointing him King. Nobody has come up with a indisputable reason for his appointment. Nevertheless, the then King created the government system and organised people into groups and jobs. In only three years, the Steam Engine was redeveloped. As well as tools and agricultural practices. The population increased by 11,000 people according to records at the time. The reason for this technological and population boom was never discovered. By 1902, cars were redeveloped and by 1911, each of the Districts had the foundations and planning completed. And by 1915, the Transportation Lines were fully completed. While most agree that it is peculiar, no explanation will likely be found in the near future as records from the time are often vague or partially destroyed.
Industrial Re-revolution (1915-1940):[]
Following the massive technological boom, the economy exploded. Production lines were quickly established and <10% of the monthly food production was consumed per month. An education system was being developed to account for a more youthful population, the system was very barebones but derived from the British education system, entirely relying on teachers from The Frontrooms to create the lesson plans. The Royal Backrooms Pound was created in early 1916 and widespread use began immediately. Commercialism shot through the roof and, as a result of an exceptional speed of growth, there was a massive amount of nationalism. The Power District's power plant was fully operational in 1931 and was followed by a national television station and radio station in 1932.
Around 1933, the Military District and the Naval District were being finalised, then being called the Enforcement District and Fishing District respectively. Entities began entering the level in small numbers around 1935 but most were culled immediately. Despite this, a fair amount of people were petrified of them. People rarely walked the streets in fear of the supernatural and the popularity of public houses and restaurants dwindled. The Divisions of the Royal Exploration Unit's military started with the R.B.P.F. and R.B.A.E.D.[3].
Leading up to 1940, the younger generation began questioning the Backrooms as a whole as well as why they needed to learn about the history of a place we will never return to, The Frontrooms. This caused a major shift in the philosophy of the citizens, who believed that we shouldn't worry about the semantics of places completely irrelevant to us. They also wanted to reduce military funding but nobody protested yet because it wasn't affecting their quality of life.
Rise and Fall of Isolationism (1940-1963):[]
As citizens grew even more nationalist, disagreements became common. The generalisation and idea that Level 248 was the entirety of the Backrooms and that The Frontrooms didn't really exist at all became widespread and became the belief that most citizens had. When the Enforcement District and Fishing District changed into what they are known as today, the Military District and Naval District, there was a fair amount of public outrage. In 1949, believing that the military was a waste, protests began, verbal protests. There was never any rioting or damage, but the noise was aggravating.
The first naval military ship was built much to the public's dismay and set off on its maiden voyage in 1951, the H.M.S. Maiden[4]. The ship was armed with a full crew and cannons, to find out if anything lay beyond the vast ocean surrounding the island. They were to record video of what they found at sea to prove to the people that we weren't alone. When the ship returned a full two years later, everyone was shocked. The footage showed The Thing on Level 7 attacking the ship and the crew barely managing to make it out alive. It also revealed the discovery of a large, unidentified galleon[5].
Isolationism, as it was then called, radically dropped in believers over time and reached the state it would remain almost indefinitely in 1967.
Preparations (1963-1999)[]
With the presence of creatures that massive and the sighting of another ship (as it wasn't known then that entities could be not fully biological), the public began asking for more investment in the military, a stark contrast to the demands they were making previously. The R.B.A.E.D. was split into two divisions, the R.B.A. and the R.B.M. as well as the development of the R.B.N. and R.R.D.. After a very long period of thought, the King declared the name of the group to be the Royal Exploration Unit. He died two years after in 1983 at the shocking age of 122. The heir to the throne, King George Windsor II[6] then took his place.
Military funding increased significantly and ships and troops were being produced at incredibly fast speed and citizens began worrying about personal safety. Entities began appearing more and more often during this period, peaking around 1984, but an infestation never occurred. After a disgusting display on the Royal Palace, vandalism's punishment rose from a £4 fine[7] to a £1,350 fine. This reduced total property damage costs across the level by £2,998,154 monthly.
The R.B.N. grew to around 3/4 of its current size in 1988. The public, as well as the government, were afraid of what others may ave at their disposal. Scientists were ordered to attempt to create a nuclear bomb but had to settle for a M.O.A.B. due to the lack of radioactive material anywhere on the level. To compensate, they built 112 over the course of 40 years[8]. In 1987, the internal market striked against the government to have more political power and was immediately shut down by the C.E.O.s responsible being sued by the government. The money was the used to develop a medical care system and national medicine, the N.H.S..
Turn of the Millennium (2000-2023):[]
The 23 years after the turn of the millennium featured no large movements and was comparatively empty. Commercialism became more widespread and the government shifted to a council led and chosen by the Monarch. Social Welfare laws were then rolled out and was followed by an immediate drop in employment before they were readjusted. There were planned strikes but they failed because the unemployed had no jobs to strike from. The Attack on Tall Tom occurred in 2019 which caused trespassing laws to become more strict around government property. One individual then broke into the R.B.M.'s bedroom to say, "Fuck you, pig," to them and was immediately arrested. Security around the government buildings was also increased heavily. The day on which they did it, 6th of January, is now a national holiday for all as a reward for not saying, "Fuck you, pig," to the Monarch. Anyone who says it will be located and forced to work on the holiday anyway.
Present (2023-Present):[]
After the discovery of other groups, the government immediately wrote up a treaty and proposed it to the first major explorer group they encountered, this being the Major Explorer Group.

Defending our glorious colonies from criminals, our upholders of justice roam our many colonies and seek out crime to punish. The R.B.P.F. are armed with: a truncheon; a padded uniform; a custodian helmet; a small can of diluted Liquid Pain. If you spot one of our enforcers, feel free to report a crime or ask for assistance for they will be glad to assist you.
The R.B.P.F. is the oldest division currently running as of today, being established for the first time in 1937. The Royal Backrooms Police Academy features a training program that takes 6 months. Once complete, you'll be an honourary enforcer of the law and this comes with several responsibilities. There are also 4 subdivisions:

Defending our entire organisation from harmful Entities and harmful Factions. The R.B.A. is our second strongest military force. Our royal, loyal subjects are armed with: Muskets; light metal guards (shin, knee, chest, shoulder and elbow); a padded uniform; a daysack; a brodie helmet. They are also responsible for expeditions and the colonisation of more dangerous levels. Training takes 2 months and is performed in the Military District.

R.C.T.D. (Royal Counter-Terrorism Division)
The brave Counter-Terrorism Division is solely oriented toward countering terrorist organisations and penalising any criminals. You will need to be brave and loyal to the R.E.U. and you will see some horrible things. The R.C.T.D. works closely with the Major Explorer Group as we have many common enemies. Despite this, you will primarily be working in colonies of the R.E.U..

R.B.M. (Royal Backrooms Militia)
The proud grunts of our organisation. The R.B.M. is our first line of defense against minor threats that aren't worthy of the R.B.A.'s intervention. While weaponry is not distributed to them, they are often seen with: makeshift CQC weapons (pitchforks, hoes, metal rakes, bats and knives) and, sometimes, Muskets. They R.B.M. is also responsible for the erection of colonies in zones from Threat Indexes 0-3 and Danger Classes 0-3. The R.B.M. are also sent into undocumented levels for documentation. Training takes 5 months.

R.B.N. (Royal Backrooms Navy)
The pride and joy of our military. Ships of varying sizes float restlessly by our docks, waiting to provide support to our army and militia on ocean-neighbouring levels and to conquer the ocean levels themselves should conflict arise. These ships defend our shores from unwanted entity invasions and allow the transport of inhabitants from one level, through Level 7 to another level.

R.R.D. (Royal Research Division)
Following in the M.E.G.'s footsteps, we have decided to set aside some of our budget for research. It isn't a large amount and we mostly just help out in other ongoing projects. Our lead researcher, Dr. Henry Indigo, got the research station's marketing team to sell Dr. Henry Indigo bobbleheads. A major research expedition was planned on embarking into Level 7 but was cancelled after a massive shift in the level's structure.

Allies.
Since our rediscovery of the Backrooms, the M.E.G. have been extremely accommodating and have informed us of all that has occurred, including but not limited to: wars and disagreements, level changes, technological advancement and faction activity as well as introducing us to the database. Despite their Americanisation, we are especially grateful for their British roots. They have also signed the Treaty of New Britain which gives mutual protection to both factions, (heavily favouring the Major Exploration Group). As a group relatively new to the rest of the Backrooms, we take their guidance and advice whenever possible.
The Backrooms Colonists have also been very kind to us. They have had a "history" with the M.E.G. but the problem has been sorted out. We have very similar goals but have agreed not to get in each other's way and we have some trade deals. Like us, they also have British roots. We are generally friendly and have flourished in trade.
The Republic of Aurielle. Their relations with the M.E.G. are extremely strained and the only thing that holds them together is the Republic's export of weaponry and the M.E.G.'s heroic victory over them in the past. They haven't shown hostility to us and we've returned the favour. Their culture is fantastic and we hope for better relations in the future.
The Royal Exploration Unit has formally declared war against The Ecotopia of Atrego, The Halloween Party and terrorism.[]
An almost unstoppable force. Anything must be done to prevent them from spreading. Followers must be terminated, people who have come into contact with them must be placed in I.I.Q. They should be removed from existence as best they can. Any and all texts referencing the Atrego must be locked away or destroyed with no exceptions. In the public's eye, the Atrego doesn't exist and it will stay that way. Anyone wearing green and black in the R.E.U. must be tried for treason with a polygraph. They will not take us down.
A large terrorist group. Less dangerous overall but much more heavily equppied. Any members of The Halloween Party should be killed on sight or otherwise terminated. Responsible for the largest of the terrorist attacks including the annual fire attacks on Tall Tom. They are extremely dangerous and if a base is located, a raid must happen as soon as possible. They cannot be in our home. They are pests.
Our government follows a monarchy with the second highest leaders being chosen by the Royal British Monarch and the second highest leaders choosing the third highest leaders and so on. The three major leaders are as follows:
Royal Backrooms Monarch:
The Royal British Monarch is the supreme leader of the Royal Exploration Unit. They have high leadership over any other political entity. The Royal British Monarch is the eldest child of previous Royal British Monarch. The Royal British Monarch must hand the throne over to an heir after 15 years of being on the throne.
Supreme Military General:
The Supreme Military General works directly beneath the Royal British Monarch and makes all military decisions. Beneath him are the High General and the High Admiral. Working under them are generals and admirals.
The Minister of Diplomacy:
The Minister of Diplomacy makes works directly beneath the Royal British Monarch and makes all diplomatic decisions.

In order to join the R.E.U. as a citizen, you must have lived in one of its colonies for 3 years and have no charges of tax evasion. Any other crimes are allowed as long as you have finished and obliged to sufficient punishment. Any charges of tax evasion or acts of terrorism will have your citizenship revoked. Additionally, you must speak either fluent English or have completed an English language programme to qualify as well. You also are granted a citizenship if you are born here.

While not the only curriculum in the R.E.U., the Royal Curriculum is the royal standard. In Royal Curriculum, it is broken into groups of age groups called Focus Blocks. The first Focus Block consists of early development and a baseline assessment of the children, called the Baseline Block. The other blocks begin focusing on different areas throughout the years. In the last two years of school, students take A-Levels and choose 4 subjects to specialise in and take GCSEs to get a final score for each. Different schools have vastly different offered subjects.

05/11/2025 09:11. Two improvised incendiary explosives were planted at the base of Tall Tom and detonated. Several civilians celebrating bonfire night near Tall Tom either died or suffered from severe, disfiguring burns. The culprits were caught and apprehended and a crackdown was put in place. Nobody is allowed near Tall Tom for reasons of safety. Luckily, the great tower was saved. Rumours about a second bomber arriving are likely falsifications. Do not believe them.

The Capital District was briefly opened to the rest of the districts for a shocking sight on the 4th of January. The public torture and execution of terrorists in the Capital Plaza. In a brutal display that lasted a grueling 23 hours, over 350 terrorists were hung, drawn and quartered in public in sets of 10 at a time. The public had largely mixed expressions. A poll run by the government the morning after showed that 76% of registered civilians enjoyed or were otherwise satisfied with the display while only 24% were distgusted or otherwise appalled. The R.B.M. came out with a statement, "We did not want to do this but the problem has gotten out of hand. The prisons are filling up and we simply cannot account for the terrorists anymore. They are trying to make a joke out of us and we have tried to accommodate them to the best of our ability. Hopefully, this will ensure that the others will think twice before trying to hurt us again. This will be done for every single terrorist that we capture until the problem subsides."
A fairly large divide between people has formed. Approximately half of civilians are defending the government's actions, agreeing that the problem has gotten out of hand. A large amount of the people have experienced firsthand these terrorist attacks and the rest are comprised of the upper echelon of people who mainly reside in the Capital District. Approximately 1 eighth of civilians are strongly against it, saying it is barbaric and wrong. They argue that it is a suppression of free speech despite the sheer nature of these attacks. The rest of civilians are staying out of both of these groups out of fear of escalation.
The government urges us to not let tensions increase because we cannot be after each other when there is a larger and ever-present threat. The Capital District was subsequently locked down again immediately after. An important detail to be brought up is the extreme nature of the crimes. A list of some of the crimes is provided below.
Extreme Crimes:
- Assault and torture of several children under the age of 5
- Arson or attempted arson and demolition or attempted demolition of public landmarks, offices and residential buildings
- The assault and kidnapping of officers of law who were then burned, waterboarded and tossed, tied up, into the ocean. Not to separate individuals.
- Carrying a gun into residential homes and extorting them for their lives.
The R.B.M. assures everyone that all of the executed have at least one count of murder.
Value of R.B.P. Increases Significantly
As a result of a large amount of the money being destroyed, defaced or otherwise lost, wages are dropping harshly and product prices are slow to catch up. Basic amenities, like food and water are lowering in price at a much slower rate. However, the GDP and GDP per capita has increased. Supply now supersedes demand and export has grown. However, these supplies are mostly consumer goods as the previous main export, building materials, has taken a massive hit. You need to delegate more forces to the defense of the Naval District. As of the second of January, four more boats have gone missing since Christmas. FOUR. The fact they have enough people to crew FOUR military vessels is a travesty. We need more defense. The boats weren't empty, the crew sleep on the boats. We can't let it happen again. Overall, they've stolen seven vessels and we've sunken two of them. Two of our own vessels. This doesn't account for the fact they could be building more. It's unlikely but possible. In a full-force naval engagement, we'll definitely win as we still have over 100 vessels. The problem isn't that they're stealing our ships, it's that they are beginning to steal more and more.
Where are they getting all these people from?

Postscript: We've found Private Stone and Private Septus. They were both thrown overboard at sea. Septus didn't survive. We've sent Samuel to the hospital. Thought you'd want to know.

The M.E.G. sent us a large amount of their Team D-2. Out of nowhere. They also brought a large amount of military supplies, including explosives and much higher-grade armour. The terrorists have begun forming land bases again so we appreciate the help. Simply just updating.

01/01/2026 00:07. The main power facility was raided and extensive damage was dealt to the facilities in the building. Several people were then thrown into the malfunctioning equipment. Of 156 bodies recovered, 2 were identified. One of which was the facility overseer and the other was a technician. 34 had to be transported to a hospital as a result of the attack. The old power plants were rebooted for temporary use while repairs to the main building are done.

Access to the archives is extremely selected. However, you can simply add the documents under the names ArchivedReportX starting from 1. The amount of documents is clearly indicated for all, regardless of clearance level. As of writing this we do not have any so you will want to file them under ArchivedReport1 and ArchivedReport2. Please append it to the R.E.U. databank and not any other databank.
