Description
Smilers are hostile entities, recognizable by their signature reflective eyes and gleaming teeth. These entities only appear in dark corners or doorways, where the rest of their form is not visible. There have been approximately 1,300 confirmed sightings of Smilers thus far. These entities do not have bodies; rather, the darkness is their bodies.
Behavior

The Smiler is attracted to light, similar to a moth, and will chase after anything remotely bright, lunging at any source of light they see (Turning on a flashlight in front of a smiler will have the Smiler lunge at you). If you engage with the entity, be sure to have a good throwing hand; if your throw is weak, the Smiler will simply lunge at you.
The Smiler are typically passive creatures but sudden noises or motion (from panicking or retreating), will make them highly aggressive. When seeing a Smiler, it is best to stare it down and retreat. Do not blink.
Smilers have a rivalry with Frowners and Rattler and will go out of their way to attack them, even abandoning their wanderer target
Biology

Smilers have a long smile, with multiple sharp teeth, and has white glowing eyes, it is unknown what other physical features they possess, it is rumored to have a physical body, which cannot be seen with the human eye. It's also rumored they have non-human, alien-like bodies, with arms and legs bent in unnatural ways. but this is unconfirmed. The M.E.G. is currently trying to find out more about it's biology at the moment.
The Glowing Face War
On July 15th, 2015, a growing infestation of Smilers in Level Frown displaced the Frowner population that inhabited it. This nearly drove them to near extinction with Frowners being reclassified from frequent entity spotting's to low frequency entities on July 23rd, 2015, with Frowner appearances becoming more and more uncommon as they fade away in the aftermath of the devastating Smiler infestation.
Discovery
It is unknown how the Smiler was originally discovered, as it is extremely common in most levels. The earliest modern report of the Smilers was when a Reddit user using a throwaway posted about them running from a "Glowy Smiling Thing" in 2014. Before that, the group known as The Lost had descriptions of what they called "The Ones That Smile", a demonic entity that eats alive whoever it sees.
