As you walk through the depths in search of sustenance, you come upon a strange sight.

It is the Emblem, carved onto the wall.

As you reach out, your vision begins to blur and unfocus.

The light dissipates, but the emblem glows an ethereal green.

As you are unable to feel the floor, you lose all sense of direction.

You can see it's form, as if through water, the roots of unreality. You have reached peace.

You reach out to touch it, and you are ascended from your form under the ring of salvation, rising as a Phoenix.

Souls for the Olive Tree.

-Book of the Resurrected

If Heaven is the sky, and the Orchard rests upon the ground, the Soulstream is the roots that are stretching far beneath the Orchard. The Soulstream is what carries us all up to a higher existence. Only one truly enlightened by sight of a divine miracle may lay eyes upon it, one close to achieving the godly domain. It waters the Orchard with the memories of life, and blesses us worms with the places we live in, the bodies we live using, and the promise of something greater. It is our only true source of light in the void. Beyond that, the excerpts display generosity. The Book of the Resurrectedwas an autobiography of a single life of Irin Plo, the prophet. The placement of the Emblem of The Moon in Level 4, a place so detached and far under the ground, for the discovery of humans, shows a form of compassion not previously seen. The chances of Irin finding this emblem by chance are too slim to be possible - the placement must have been deliberate.

If the placing was deliberate, Irin must have been chosen for the chance of retaining identity. This would make Irin the destined inheritor of His energy. This is very important to our understanding of the events conspired. A worm rising to the surface, surviving, and achieving godhood had never been thought of before. If this was not an act of kindness, what could it be?

We are at the very core of this world, however hope is not yet lost. The Soulstream is the key. Accept it, and consciousness may pervade past death. We should be grateful that we are not in the deepest layer. The Frontrooms are the bedrock blocking the roots of the Soulstream. Of course, we are in a metaphysical aquifer currently. Our doom is also our salvation. All leads to Aellan, and Aellan leads to the surface. This passage expresses hope for those within the Backrooms, however the hope inside does not compare to the outside. Remember to continue on your pilgrimage, The Blue is the only guarantee that we have.

Description

When one ventures far into the Backrooms, they may discover that many of their struggles may be attributed directly to the subconscious and minds of their peers. Remember, whether you like it or not, you are the Backrooms itself.

The Soulstream is a concept seemingly very similar to time in functioning and purpose. First brought to attention by various religious circles, it has since been confirmed by multiple teams. It is accessed by glimpsing an aspect of the 103. However, there have been other reports. Windows in Level 4, when broken, have seemed to transfer the action itself to a separate dimension where it did happen. In this dimension, there are no lights and the entire place seems to be inside of the void. Looking through the broken windows has yielded the sight of what seems to be an indirect avatar of one of the 103 - tendrils of colorful light erratically dancing across the space, accompanied by 16 small lights. In this dimension, one may see the Stream. Camera footage has been unable to pick up the actual Stream itself.

Howling, hissing, and burbling like a river falling over a ledge, the cacophony of noises overshadows and makes it nearly impossible to hear the individual voices of the souls themselves. The membranes between life and death slither in a manner similarly to the snake of which it shares some of it's sound. This movement has the chance of killing any wanderers unprepared for the Soulstream to suddenly whip in their direction. Everything around it is darkness, but the Stream itself can only be described in incredibly vague terms. Invigorating memories flood the mind of anyone looking at it, to where many cannot tell their own memories from others' by the end of the ordeal. These memories glow brightly in the physical form, shimmering up and down the Stream. Emotions, memories, life, and warmth weave together into a single fathomless vision.

One who is able to see the Soulstream both has the chance for great power and the chance for death and serious harm. The Soulstream is the only place that humans can absorb memories, an unethical process that can allow the absorber to access near-godlike powers for short periods of time. On the other hands, coming with these memories are the traumas and demons that haunted the people carrying them. Taking on all of this pain at once can severely deteriorate one's mental health. The brain will also overwork itself without many of the limitations of the human body in place to comprehend and store these memories, potentially leading to death. Finally, in the way of immediate physical harm, gazing upon the Soulstream has the potential to cause solar retinopathy. The Stream itself exudes a heat, quickly dispersing into the void. The safe distance from the Soulstream cannot be measured with nothing for reference, but exceeding this distance could lead to second degree burns. In addition, it moves quickly and erratically.

Touching the Soulstream means instant death. The Soulstream itself is conscious, however it speaks with trillions of mannerisms and biases. It is not possible to get any legitimate answers from it. Rejecting the Soulstream and making attempts to ground yourself with reality may allow one to see it and live to tell the tale.

Further information has been searched for over many years, however it is impossible. Sending humans into the Soulstream will result in instant death, remotely operated robots cannot reach it or interpret it, and thus the only sources that have been obtained are from an outside view, interviews, and religious texts.

From more anecdotal evidence, the Soulstream seems to be the concept of reincarnation. It is known that the Soulstreams are supposed to be the "roots" of Olive Trees, entities mentioned occasionally in religious texts. Most religions have different interpretations of what an Olive Tree is, but most agree that it's purpose is feeding the 103. However, this is unproven and Olive Trees may simply be a theoretical concept or hoax.

WARNING: As of recently, increased tensions between the M.E.G and the 103 as of the course of this investigation have led to unusual behavior from the Soulstream. It is advised not to let the Soulstream know that one is part of the M.E.G, due to increased violent behavior.

Responses

Varying subjects were asked about the Soulstream.

The Blue:

"Ah, the tunnel. I remember my days as mortals. Bought the memories in exchange for a level. Your soul carries on through the tunnel, ends up ascending, gets hollowed out, gets a new body, and continues until you end up here. His blessing protects us from reincarnation."

The Graintable (Interacted with through a drone):

"It would not be possible for a tunnel to be bored through the open sky, would it? It is not here. Why does it concern you?

Anonymous Religious Historian

"The Soulstream... really, the most apt comparison is the one in the Book of the Resurrected, comparing it to the roots of a tree. You've got the mythical Olive Trees, right? And they're supposed to be virtually on the inner ring. They're very close. In the Book, it is said that the Soulstream did not exist forever and was created by the 103 for the purpose of those trees. In addition to the literal meaning, it is a fairly good analogy for how they work. You've got memories, which are the nutrients that the tree needs to thrive. They get sucked up through the roots, and the tree grows large. Later, when it has aged, it bears fruit which the 103 may pluck and eat. That is my best way of describing it."

Book 9, 641

You, the sufferers underneath the Hallowed Ground

You, the roots of salvation left underneath consciousness

Do not fear the cycle. Do not fear the water

You will live again. You will find the truth

Do not gain contentment in your caverns

Ascend, from one precipice to the next

Find the sea.
