Chapter 1: Into The Dark Forest
One note, this is a WIP, so don't be mad that the story is unfinished.
One day, a group of six friends, Mark, Daniel, Andrew, Mike, Anna, and Ashley went out on a trip to a forest in the middle of the city.
Daniel: I have a bad feeling about this...
Mark: It'll be fine! We will only be there a couple of hours to look at birds.
Anna: Maybe he has a point?
Mark: Seriously, we'll be fine, stop worrying.
After looking at the forest for a few hours, one of the friends noticed something suspicious.
Mike: Is that something glowing in the distance, or is it just me?
Ashley: Relax, it's probably just a flashlight.
Mike: No, no, it's glowing purple.
Andrew: It's probabl- what?
Daniel: Why are you wasting time looking at it? We need to get home or we're gonna be late!
Mike: It looks like a... portal?
Everyone ends up going to see the "portal" themselves, little do they know that this portal's destination...
IS GOING TO RUIN THEIR LIVES FOREVER.
Anna: We should probably stay away from it.
Mark: Screw that! Let's go in!
Everyone except Mark: No, it is probably extremely dangero-
Anna: Wait a minute, is that... a wolf?
Everyone: RUN, RUN, RUN!!!!
As soon as they see the wolf, they all run in the opposite direction... into the portal.
And just like that, they find themselves in...
The Backrooms.
Chapter 2: Mono-Yellow Madness
As soon as everyone gains consciousness, one by one, they all scream in shock.
Anna: WHERE ARE WE? SOMEONE? HELP?
Daniel: I DON'T KNOW! WE'RE IN SOME SORT OF... MONO YELLOW PLACE?
Mike: The carpet... smells... disgusting...
Ashley: Alright... Focus... Relax...
Andrew: RELAX? RE-FRICKING-LAX?!?!?! WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, IN A BUILDING, AFTER BEING FORCED INTO A PORTAL BECAUSE A WOLF CHASED US!!!
Mark: Ugh, why are you screaming? We're probably in the back of a clothing store or something.
Daniel: If that's the case, then why does the carpet smell so bad? The janitor would've vacuumed it.
???: You're not in either of your theories.
Mike: I don't know who you think you are, busting into our conversation.
???: I'm busting in to tell you where you are.
Andrew: Alright then, just where are we?
???: ...
Andrew: So...?
???: The Backrooms.
Everyone: Care to explain?
???: My name is Nathan, Private of the M.E.G, you're all very lucky to end up in this spot of the backrooms, we came on an expedition to inspect the carpet fluid.
Mike: So that stuff is what made it smell so bad.
Nathan: Yep, and you all are currently in a spot of the backrooms called Level 0.
Anna: So, is there anything you can tell us about this "level 0" place?
Nathan: Yes, we all separate certain levels of the backrooms into "classes", you all are currently in a Class 1 level, which is safe, secure, and has a minimal entity count.
Mark: So whats an "entity"?
Nathan: There are many different entities, however you probably don't have to worry about that right now.
Daniel: How do we leave?
Nathan: There... aren't many confirmed ways to leave...
Everyone: How do we leave this "level"?
Nathan: Well, there's no particular way to "leave" its more of a "clip", you kind of have to clip out of the level... it's the only confirmed way to leave this level.
Ashley: How do we literally go through a wall?
After going through a lengthy explanation of how to "clip", and that they need to find an electrical outlet, the group went on the hunt... for a power bank.
Nathan: Well, that's all, see ya!
Everyone: Thank you! You're a life saver!
Nathan: No problem.
Mark: Well, now that we know what to do, let's go find an electrical outlet!
Everyone: Alright!
After about thirty minutes of searching, everyone realized escaping, and surviving...
Is going to be way harder than they thought.
Daniel: I see something in the distance.
Mark: Is it an electrical outlet?
Daniel: No, it looks like a... creature? I think more of them are coming.
Andrew: Wait a minute, they're... chasing us?
Daniel: I think so!
Mark: FIGHT THEM!
Anna: ARE YOU INSANE?
Mark: No, i'm a daredevil.
Mike: HEY! GET BACK HER-
Mark: TAKE THIS! YOU PESKY ENTITI-
Mark: WAIT, what AA-
*stab stab*
*tear bite stab tear*
Mark: HELP! HELP ME! *tear*
Andrew: OH MY GOD WE NEED TO HELP HIM!
Anna: WELL WHAT ARE WE DOING JUST STANDING AROUND COME ON!
Mike: I BROUGHT A MED KIT, LET'S GO!
Mark: GHHFJSKOANAVN
Mark: *cough* *cough* u g h h h h.................
Mike: What! NO!
Anna: he's dead...
Daniel: WHY ARE THEY LOOKING AT US?!?!?!
Ashley: I THINK WE'RE THEIR NEXT VICTIM!!!!
Everyone: RUN!
As the group of five, reduced from six, runs from the entity horde, which starts to chase them, they start looking for electrical outlets while running, as soon as they start to give up as the entities get closer and the group gets more tired, they spot something that will save their lives.
Daniel: It's too late, *huff* there are no electrical outlets... *huff*
Ashley: I see something a few yards away!
Mike: *huff* another entity?
Ashley: No, i think it's.... *gasp* AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET!!
Everyone: WELL THEN, LET'S GO!
Anna: Alright then, hmmm.... *clip*
Daniel: Let's go! *clip*
Ashley: Come on... *clip*
Mike: Rrrgh.. *clip*
Andrew: Finally! *clip*
Chapter 3: A Surprising Revelation
After No-clipping through the electrical outlet in level 0, the group all ends up in level 1, the 2nd level of the backrooms.
Ashley: Wow, this place looks... different.
Daniel: It's an empty warehouse!
Mike: No, i see a crate over there.
The group looks inside the crate and...
Andrew: What's with all this... stuff?
Mike: "Almond Water"... "Firesalt"... so much random stuff...
Daniel: I guess we should take it with us.
Mike: Alright then.
The group explores the level more and goes down hallways for about thirty minutes, and then they meet someone familiar.
Daniel: Is that someone in the distance?
Anna: I think so, and they look... familiar...
Mike: Yeah, and i think it's... *gasp*
Everyone (angrily): NATHAN!!!!!!
Nathan: AAA- *trips and falls*
*thud*
Nathan: What the heck- you guys?
Mike: Why didn't you note the entities?
Nathan: What do you mean? Also where's your other guy, Mark?
Daniel: He got killed, by entities!
???: Excuse me, just what kind of rant is going on in here?
Anna: This guy we met from the "M.E.G" or whatever never told us about entities because "We wouldn't have to worry about them because the entity count is so low here."
Mike: Then our friend Mark got attacked by entities!
Daniel: And died!
???: Ugh, my name is Rachel, Sergeant of the M.E.G, and NATHAN, WHAT DID I TELL YOU ON YOUR VERY FIRST LESSON, YOU ALWAYS EXPLAIN ENTITIES TO WANDERERS, NO MATTER HOW LOW THE RISK IS!!!
Nathan: But-
Rachel: NO BUTS, YOU COULD NOT BE ON THINNER ICE RIGHT NOW... ACTUALLY DO YOUR JOB, OR ELSE!
Nathan: Okay, i understand.
Rachel: GOOD. NOW LEAVE.
Nathan: Ok.
*leaves*
Mike: Why didn't you give him a more severe warning?
Rachel: Because death couldn't be more common in the backrooms.
Daniel: I'm sorry, death couldn't be more what in the backrooms?
Rachel: Don't worry, you'll be fine here most of the time, i'm sure you saw on your class guide.
Anna: What class guide?
Rachel: He didn't give you that either?!?!
Anna: Apparently not.
Rachel: Ugh, here, have a class guide, you're in a class 1 again, i'll explain the almond water and firesalt you found in that crate you're carrying and the entities that roam the backrooms.
Everyone: Thank you!
After explaining a few objects and a few dozen entities, and the base that they met, the group felt more than prepared to explore the hell that is the backrooms.
Mike: Thank you so much for the info, you're a real lifesaver.
Rachel: No problem, come swing by again if you need anything, whether it's medical assistance, supplies or anything.
Daniel: Alright, we'll take note of that.
*both go their separate ways*
Going to explore for an exit to level 1, they keep their guard up incase entities show up. Twisting and turning down the halls, and empty, vast sections of the warehouse, they finally find an exit.
Anna: Is that a note?
Andrew: Yeah, i think so.
Mike: It says: "Exit this way." Through an extended hallway and then through a vent, that makes sense.
Daniel: Well, what do we have to lose, let's go.
*everyone reluctantly goes down the hallway*
Mike: Well, let's get outta here.
Daniel: Alright then, let's get through the vent.
*starts climbing through*
After going through the vents for a few minutes, one by one, they enter level 2's pipe system.
Chapter 4: Nightmare of a Labyrinth
After entering level 2 by going through a vent in level 1, the group went in search for a base, or an exit.
Anna: What's with all of these pipes?
Daniel: I don't know, but it's hot in here...
Mike: Just try opening that door over there, maybe it has something.
Daniel: Good idea.
Ashley: Uh, no, it's not, what if a skin-stealer is in there?
Daniel: Relax, we know how to deal with one, we'll be fine.
*tries to open door, unsuccessfully*
Daniel: It's locked anyways.
Mike: Alright then, let's look for a base, there's gotta be some around these pipes.
Ashley: Just be careful, smilers can roam this level.
After searching for a few hours through the maze of pipes, the group noticed a major difference.
Mike: Why is it so much hotter than it was before?
Daniel: I don't know, let me check my thermometer... Oh. My god.
Mike: Oh my god what?
Daniel: 142 degrees F. (~46.9 degrees C.)
Everyone: That explains it.
???: You got that right.
Andrew: Oh nice, what random encounter did we get this time?
???: I'm Jake, member of The Survivors,
Mike: Huh, so for once we meet someone who's not from the M.E.G.
Jake: Yep, and i was just waiting for the leader, Austin, to get back from the rooms he's searching.
Austin (from a distance): FOUND SOME MORE ALMOND WATER TO TRADE!
Jake: That's great, i just met some wanderers!
Austin: Oh, that's nice, here, let me introduce myself.
Daniel: No need, we heard about ya'.
Austin: That's great! Open to trade?
Anna: Give us a sec to decide.
Austin: No worries!
Anna: What can we trade?
Daniel: We don't have much, and the firesalt is crucial, we might need some of that later, plus, we only have two handfuls.
Mike: I think we should trade one handful of firesalt.
Ashley: I think it's risky, but this stuff is extremely valuable, so it's probably worth a shot.
Anna: Ok, then it's settled. One handful of firesalt.
Daniel: Here, a handful of firesalt.
Austin: Oh my goodness, how many crates did you find?
Mike: One.
Austin: You guys must've hit the jackpot, because normally if that's in a crate, you only find a few crystals.
Ashley: Wow, i guess we did get lucky.
Austin, Yep, and you chose the right time to trade that good stuff, because we are overly scarce with it, so...
*pulls out three bundles of items*
Austin: Here, choose two bundles, between a dozen bottles of almond water, three level keys, and two squirt guns.
Mike: Wow, that is a steal.
Daniel: No kidding! What should we choose?
Anna: I say we let Ashley choose one bundle.
Ashley: Well then i will choose the almond water, because we only have three bottles.
Daniel: May i choose the second? I have an idea.
Mike: I don't mind.
Anna: Sure, Why not?
Daniel: Andrew?
Andrew: I'm sorting our stuff, but i don't mind if you choose.
Daniel: Alright then, i'll choose the squirt guns.
Austin: Here you go then, thanks for your purchase!
Everyone: Our pleasure!
Daniel: Here's my idea, *grabs lighter, gloves, and metal container*
*puts firesalt in container*
*bottom heats up, melting the firesalt*
Daniel: And... Voila! *pours pyroil (melted firesalt) into squirt gun containers*
Ashley: Nice! Now we have a quick liquid explosion device!
After arming themselves with pyroil guns, and feeling more confident than ever, everyone felt more than brave to enter the levels that come next. Little do they know that things are only going to get way, way worse from here.
*heavy breathing and sweating*
Ashley: it's... so... hot... it's starting to burn a bit...
Daniel: yeah... let's turn back... my thermometer exploded a while ago...
Mike: No, we are not turning back.
Anna: I'm sorry? It's too dangerous, we have to leave this hallway.
Mike: No, i see a fire exit, i did not come all this way just to ignore possibly our only exit.
Daniel: *sigh* just get over here...
Mike: *scoffs*
Ashley: Okay, Mike, first lesson of awareness you need to- wait, Mike? MIKE?
Mike: If you're not going to come with me, than i will.
Daniel: NO! DON'T!
*steps forward*
Mike: OW, IT IS BURNING! I NEED TO LEAVE.
Anna: See, we told yo-
*hallway closes*
*pipes heat up to enormous temperatures*
Mike: HELP! IT'S BURNING ME! IT'S BURNING ME!!!!
Ashley: GO THROUGH THE FIRE EXIT!!!
*mike yanks the handle as hard as he can*
Mike: IT'S A FAKE!! IT'S GETTING HOTTER!!
Anna: BREAK THE DOOR!
Daniel and Ashley: WE CAN'T! IT'S SOLID STEEL!
Mike: AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
*thud behind the door*
*everyone stands in disbelief*
Daniel: Let's open... this door...
*creak*
Daniel: It's open, and it says "exit".
*footsteps into level 3*
Chapter 5: Liminal Power Players
Daniel: Be careful, it says this is a class 4 level.
Ashley: The machines are running wildly...
Anna: SMILER!!!
Andrew: GO FETCH!
Andrew: Not getting THAT flashlight back, this level is liminal.
Daniel: Hey, a room, let's see it.
Ashley: Sure.
*enters room*
Anna: An electrical generator, and it has a lot of buttons.
Daniel: Useless.
*explores the hallways*
Anna: Prison bars?
Ashley: Yep.
Daniel: Stand back...
*shoots a small amount of pyroil from squirt gun from a distance, exploding*
Daniel: That should do the trick- WHAT?!?
Anna: Did it break?
Daniel: No.
Everyone: Ughhhhh....
Ashley: Let's just go this way instead.
Daniel: Yes, yeah, this is Daniel speaking, yes, i used pyroil. The bars are unbreakable? Okay. Yeah. Okay thank you, that's good to know. *hangs up*
Anna: Who were you just talking to?
Daniel: The M.E.G.
Anna: How? We don't have Wi-Fi or cellular service, plus, we don't have their number.
Daniel: One. We do have Wi-Fi, the M.E.G told us. Two. You... Didn't see me getting handed a notecard with their number on it...?
Everyone: Oh.
Daniel: Well anyways, as i got told the bars are unbreakable. So let's move on.
Anna: Okay then.
???: AAAAHH!!!
*entity screech*
Andrew: BEHIND THE BARS? HOW?
Ashley: I think i know, we need to help him so let's move fast, follow me!
???: Huh, that's bravery right there.
???: You got that right.
Ashley: Three lefts, that's how, it was in a room, which is why we didn't see it.
???: Pretty good critical thinking for being in a panic.
*arrives at room*
Daniel: No... We couldn't save him...
???: But you did prove yourselves.
Everyone: Huh? Oh, you again. Wait... WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP US, NATHAN AND RACHEL?
Rachel: Because that wasn't real.
Nathan: Yep!
Daniel: But...
Anna: ...How?
Rachel: Well... it started... about fifteen minutes ago. We decided to test you, find out if you have the heart, and smarts to risk yourselves to save someone else. Basically, the short story is that you passed. And the long story... Nathan, after a long scolding, thought you guys had some guts to yell that loudly at a serious member of the M.E.G, it was the first thing he was right about in a while, so i decided to do a little test, so we put a fake body in the room and remote activated a tape recorder from afar. The entities were not real either. Not even the bars were real, you could've went straight through, it was a hologram. However real bars are actually unbreakable, don't worry. The reason we knew where you were was from...
Daniel: ...Me calling you to ask why the bars didn't break.
Rachel: Exactly, you can actually give credit to Nathan for the idea of how we pulled this off.
Nathan: Sorry again about the level 0 situation...
Anna: *sigh* Just. Don't worry. About that.
Rachel: ...
Everyone: ...
Rachel: Do you want to... Join us? We could use a group like you here.
*looks around, thinking*
Everyone: Sure, why not?
Rachel: Alright then, welcome to the M.E.G!
Everyone: Thanks! Now do you know how to leave this place?
Nathan: Yep! There is an elevator nearby that leads to level 4.
Ashley: Alright then, let's go!
*footsteps*
Daniel: So, what is level 4 exactly?
Rachel: It's basically a big abandoned office, i believe one of our members is there right now! Along with M.E.G base Omega!
Anna: Can't wait to meet them!
Andrew: I still feel a little rushed, and crazy from that big "test" of yours. Ashley, could you hand me an almond water?
Ashley: Sure!
Andrew: Thanks. *chugs bottle down* That's better.
Nathan: There's the elevator!
Daniel: Alright then, let's go!
*presses button*
*elevator opens*
*steps inside*
*elevator goes up*
*opens up again*
Ashley: Level 4, let's relax here.
Chapter 6: Followed by Nothing
After the "test" took place in level 3, the group went to level 4, all still feeling a little shook up from the fake death.
Andrew: We're here, and we oughta process things... and collect almond water.
Anna: Let's explore the dangers of this level before we do anything.
Guard: STOP RIGHT THERE!
Daniel: Excuse us?
Guard: Only M.E.G members are currently allowed in right now, the area will be on limits in 15 minutes-
Daniel: Here's a notecard specifically with the number of the M.E.G base alpha.
Guard: Doesn't mean you're part of it though-
Daniel: That was never meant to be evidence, you calling the number was, ask if Daniel, Anna, Andrew, and Ashley are members of the M.E.G.
Guard: Fine. *punches in number*
*ring*
*answers*
Guard: This is Jonathan speaking, just met these pip-squeaks named Daniel, Anna, Andrew, and Ashley who are trying to enter a private area unauthorized. They... are authorized? There's no way. Okay then, sorry about that. *hangs up*
Guard: Sorry about the misunderstanding. Come in.
Daniel: Thank you.
*enters*
Daniel: What the...
???: I THOUGHT THERE WERE NO SKIN-STEALERS HERE!!! GET AWAY BEFORE I BLAST YOU WITH FIRESALT!!!
???: DID IT JUST...? Oh, it was another hallucination, level 6 has taken an enormous toll on my mental health. Wait a minute is that, them? The guys Rachel told me about over the phone?
Ashley: What do you mean?
???: Rachel called me telling me that i would see you soon, so as to stay near the entrance you were about to enter the level from.
Daniel: Well that's nice, but where is M.E.G base Omega?
???; Over here. My name... well, people refer to me by my codename, Sly, Brigadier General of the M.E.G.
*starts walking towards base Omega*
Daniel: It feels like we are meeting higher class M.E.G members by the second.
Sly: Need some supplies? Like some almond water, or firesalt, perhaps?
Anna: No, we got both of those.
Sly: Well then, is anyone hungry?
Everyone: We could have a bite to eat.
Sly: Quite literally. *arrives at base Omega*
Sly: Hey, Jen, could you grab us 5 servings of royal rations?
Jen: Sure! *puts a single spoonful in 5 tiny cups*
Sly: Here, i know, i know, it looks like refroze grease, but this is a superfood, and thats an understatement, because it is not only delicious, but one spoon gives you enough nutrition for an entire day.
*eats royal ration*
Everyone: Wow, that does feel like a whole days course.
Sly: WATCH OUT! *throws flashlight*
Sly: Smiler hallucination. Nothing new, sorry about that.
Daniel: No worries. Y'know, we've been wanting to find a way back to earth, or as M.E.G here says, "The Frontrooms".
Sly: If you find any thing out of the ordinary on a level that's embedded with yellow light, it's probably the way out, here's a printed page of the article online.
Ashley: Thank you!
Sly: No problem, now, there is one thing i want you four to know. The elevator next to us is to level 6, which is the most DANGEROUS level you will be in so far, followed by level 7, and level 8, and level 9. Here, more articles, i suggest you at least read level 6's article NOW, because if you don't, you won't get a chance until it's too late.
Ashley: Ok then!
Daniel: Thank you!
Sly: Stay safe!
Daniel: Level 6 is pitch black, no light works here, and there's not much else to it, everything is environmental and mental.
Everyone: Alright then, let's head out!
*enters elevator*
