Description

Televisions are an extremely odd and weird entity. Their main characteristic is that if you interact with one you are dead. Anybody and everybody who has ever touched a Television never returned. All reports on how this creature kills are sourced from TV shows and/or other movies related to the Backrooms. Studies have shown that when a character in a TV show/movie dies, whoever was the last person to have interacted with that specific Television is most likely to die, even if they are far away from the entity. The entity poses little to no threat until this type of interaction happens.

This entity has no intention of hunting anybody down, and likes to sit and chill for the most part. The entity has been said to "know where wanderers are". This theory got millions of wanderers scared, with about 20,910 died upon initial reaction due to other entities in those wanderers vicinities, or overall not paying attention to what they were doing as a result. It has been proven somewhat false, but evidence in recent time has shown small inferred cameras. Whenever these small, inferred cameras are connected to the entity is unknown. Communication with the Televisions are 100% possible. The entity will always communicate with a red, flashing light on the bottom left corner of the screen, speaking in Morse Code. The entity is capable of responding to human speech, however, if one where to use scientific words, the entity will cease all communication attempts made by wanderers.

Behaviors

Televisions are odd to say the least, but have been observed time and time again. They seem to be docile for the most part until one is stupid enough to interact with one. They seem to be unbreakable and cannot be killed naturally. The only way to kill a Television is via the use of weapons, but this has serious consequences if preformed incorrectly, as if that is the case, the entity will release a shock-wave, stunning anybody caught in the blast. The entity will then turn itself on, spawning a Tele-Figure which will resemble a random hostile entity. This figure is artificial, and has more advanced properties then the original variant.

The entity is capable of showing emotions with pictures on the screen. Televisions hate it when they are turned on physically, causing it to react the way it does. It does this mechanism to kill any predators looking. Anything electronic related can and will pose a threat to the entity. This is due to a certain chip within their system which causes them to go haywire and see anything coming near them as a threat. Even the softest touch can trigger this entities self defense procedure. It is unknown what caused the Televisions to perceive anything coming at them as a threat.

One notable feature of the entity is that it is fine with controller interaction. Video gaming is something the entity is comfortable with. It has been known to contain games that were not made in the real world. Some of the games include: Radical Adventure, Back-Fighting, The One Who Smiles, etc. The controllers are a mix of a N64 controller, and a GameCube controller. Nobody knows why they look like this. The controller can be used to turn on the entity and what not. It is unknown why the entity exhibit's this behavior, but people speculate it has to do with not touching the entity physically.

They can also emit audio frequencies that can hypnotize anybody in a 30 meter radius around the entity, but is significantly affected by the distance of the wanderer, and how many walls are in their path between the Television itself and the wanderer. This hypnotic effect turns wanderers hit by it against themselves as they lose control over their own movement. The wanderer will then unwillingly touch the entity, leading into a quick and painless death. It is unknown where these audio frequencies come from but one thing is clear; the ones causing this frequency to happen are models with antennas attached to the entity. They tend to use this function to their advantage in order to take down predators hunting for it.

Biology

Televisions consist of a motherboard, a power cable, and, optionally, a stand. The motherboard also has a magnetic pulse, used to repel any liquid substance, or any other material used to destroy such objects, away from the entity. This ability is what lead to the discovery of the entity in question, when a fellow wanderer in Level 829 met an unfortunate fate with the creature. Even if the entity suffers from damage, their magnetic force is good enough for putting the entity back together. A deceased Television instance has been seen on the streets of Level 9202, being taken in for custody, so that members of the M.E.G can do some research. What they found inside were tiny little magnets on the motherboard. Upon further inspection, it has been shown to pull any metal towards these magnets in an instant, pulling objects like guns, computers, phones, and other objects into the vicinity of the entities remains upon exposure to the interrogation rooms atmosphere.

The wiring of the creature is complex in design. It has many HDMI ports on the back, no matter what model, although, there is no use for it. Other port holes are on the back, however, they are heavily distorted, making identification of these ports impossible. From the underside of the Television are buttons to turn the entity on, a pair of volume buttons, a pair of channel buttons, and a source button, which do nothing. These buttons can only be pushed if the entity is dead, which explains why they have no effect. They also have a cord plugged into an electrical socket, feeding off of the electricity to keep the entity powered.

Discovery

In Level 829, a wanderer by the name of "Jacob", went into a bedroom of the level to rest. He set his Almond Water on the dresser with the entity, when suddenly, it moved. He placed it over and over again, with the bottle toppling off of the dresser over and over again. He examined what was causing his Almond Water to fall off the dresser. He theorized that the Television on the dresser was the one causing it, and when he tried to throw some droplets, only to have them thrown right back at him, he was correct.

Jacob touched the entity, hoping to watch some of his favourite TV shows when he was a kid, only to see something he didn't recognize. He observed the show he was watching, but he saw someone that died. It was unfortunately the last time he was ever heard from. The M.E.G. has found the body in the same room, making the exact same mistake as the wanderer, and made a physical interaction with the entity, dying within the first few minutes of the movie starting.

This log describes and narrates Operation Watch'n'Assist, carried out by a group of researches from M.E.G. Outpost Omicron.

Jerry Diamond: Ok, so, what was this expedition about again?

General Clark: It's about a disappearance that happened in the level a while back. Let's say, around two months ago.

Flitch Walkman: Seriously? Why didn't you dispatch us sooner general?

General Clark: Fuck's sake, for the last time, we didn't know what caused these damn disappearances.

Flitch Walkman: Making us do the dirty work? Damn.

<Jerry places his almond water bottle on top of a Television>

Jerry Diamond: Ow!

Flitch Walkman: You ok?

Jerry Diamond: Was that the television?

Flitch Walkman: Was that TV always trying to communicate with us?

Jerry Diamond: Touch it, I dare you.

Flitch Walkman: Ok, ok, whatever.

Jerry Diamond: OK, gotta end this log cause I don't want anybody to hear thi-

Relationships with other Entities

Despite being immobile, the Televisions surprisingly have relations with other entities, especially when it comes to what they can communicate with. These are the most known ones studied by an unknown group

  • Partygoers: The Partygoers have this belief that the Televisions know something about them that they don't, and that, if the information is spread out to the public, it could mean extinction for the entities race. They hunt down and unplug their feeding tubes as a result to not spread said information upon wanderers
  • Facelings: The entity will always act kind around facelings. It will even play movies to the entity in hopes for some entertainment revenue, or even something that resembles some sort of appetition in return.
  • The Crimson Wanderer: The Crimson Wanderer is the only entity to understand what a Television feels. The Crimson Wanderer will always show compassion for the entity, and will have conversations with a Television that usually last an hour or two.
  • The Storyteller: Whenever this entity is in the presence of a Television, it will show extreme fear by showing something the Television finds scary, like a Liminal Space, an entity it already fears, death, the freezing cold, humid weather, something lurking in the dark, etc.
  • The Gardener: Televisions always have an irrational fear over this entity. Whenever she is near it, the entity will always show pictures of the Greek God Medusa on the screen. When asked about The Gardener in general, the Television grows hostile, releasing a Tele-Figure as a result. It is unknown why it engages in such activities when asked about this one entity in particular, however it could be a sign that the Televisions knows something about The Gardener that it doesn't want to share.
