Description

Televisions are an extremely odd and weird entity. Their main characteristic is that if you interact with one you are dead. Anybody and everybody who has ever touched a Television never returned. All reports on how this creature kills are sourced from TV shows and/or other movies related to the Backrooms. Studies have shown that when a character in a TV show/movie dies, whoever was the last person to have interacted with that specific Television is most likely to die, even if they are far away from the entity. It is unclear if the character dying from the film has any emotional attachment to whatever touched the entity.

Nobody knows what the true intentions of the Televisions are. Some even go to say that they are used to spy on people, however, there is no sufficient evidence to support these claims. Communication with the Televisions is 100% possible, and if successfully pulled off, the entity will flash a red light in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. These entities seem to know Morse Code as a first language. In recent studies of the Television, it has been noted to understand any type of language, even if they happen to be made up, or unknown. If one were to use any type of scientific word around the entity, it will cease communication with any and all wanderers that try to speak with it. This ongoing behavior is still being researched upon.

Behaviors

The behaviors of these entities seem to not be fully understood yet, as certain actions they take usually cause more questions to unfold. The only way to kill a Television is via the use of firearms. This procedure can lead to serious consequences if the Television were to feel any pressure from the weaponized individual/group. If this where to be the outcome, the entity will release a shock-wave, stunning anybody caught in the blast. The entity will then proceed to turn itself on and spawn a Tele-Figure that will come through the screen to finish the job. It will resemble any existing entity that has more advanced properties then the original variant.

The entity is capable of showing emotions with pictures on the screen. Televisions hate it when they are turned on physically, causing it to react the way it does. It does this out of self defense, to kill any predators looking for it. Anything that is physical can and will pose a threat to the entity, however, more research needs to be done in order to fully understand this behavior. Even the softest touch can trigger this entities self defense procedure. It is unknown what caused the Televisions to perceive anything coming at them as a threat.

One notable feature about entity is that it is fine with controller interaction. Video gaming is something the entity is comfortable with. It has been known to contain games that were not made in the real world. Some of the games include: Radical Adventure, Back-Fighting, The One Who Smiles, etc. The controllers are a mix of an N64 controller, and a GameCube controller. Observations show that 1 in 8 instances of the entity can spawn with these types of controllers. These controllers can be used like a television remote, which could explain why this entity exhibits this behavior.

Some instances of the entity can emit audio frequencies that can hypnotize anybody in a 30 meter radius. This hypnotic audio wave is heavily affected by distance and obstacles that prevent sound from getting past. This hypnotic wave will cause anybody hit by to to lose control of their consciousness, and allow the Television to take over. It will wander around in it's new body for a couple of minutes before returning to it's original body by doing something it hates having to do, touch itself. Once the entity has returned to it's original consciousness, whatever body it possessed will go lifeless on the floor. They tend to use this function to their advantage in order to take down predators hunting for it.

Biology

Televisions consist of a motherboard, a power cable, and, optionally, a stand. The motherboard have little tiny magnets, to repair the entity, and prevent it from taking any damage from incoming melee weapons, or wet substances capable of frying electronic devices. This ability is what lead to the discovery of the entity in question, when a fellow wanderer in Level 829 met an unfortunate fate with the creature. A deceased Television instance has been seen on the streets of Level 9202, which was taken so that members of the M.E.G could do some research. Upon further inspection, the magnets has been shown to pull any metal towards the entities remains in an instant. These would include weaponry, scissors, some medical equipment, etc.

The back of the creature is complex in design. It has many port holes are on the back. It didn't matter what model the entity was. These port holes seem to be heavily distorted, making identification of these ports impossible. Some instances of the entity have small little buttons that can be used to control what the Television does, however, they do not seem to function. They also have a cord plugged into an electrical socket, feeding off of the electricity to keep the entity powered. If this cord were to be removed from the electrical socket, the entity will die in a span of 7-9 hours.

Broadcasts

Every once in a while, a Television will play a broadcast out of the following: News, Live Game Shows, Comedy Shows, Documentaries, etc. It is currently unknown what triggers these broadcasts. The broadcast should not be viewed under any circumstances, unless you are wearing a Carbon Mask. Upon viewing these broadcasts, many mental effects will occur, such as: Insanity, Hallucinations, Temporal Loss With Reality, Severe Depression, Mental Breakdowns, etc. The Televisions sometimes use these broadcasts as a way to tell others to leave it alone.

Discovery

In Level 829, a wanderer by the name of "Jacob", went into a bedroom of the level to rest. He set his Almond Water down onto the dresser with an instance of a Television next to it. He kept getting hit in the leg because his supplies went flying back to him within a matter of seconds. He placed it again and again, only for the bottle to continuously hit his leg. He examined what was causing his Almond Water to fall off the dresser, but he couldn't make out exactly what was. Even when he sprayed some of his almond water around the room, it would still come back towards him. He saw the Television instance, and had the bright mind to turn it on and watch some of his favourite TV shows and movies he hasn't seen in years, only to see something he didn't recognize.

He observed the show he was watching carefully. It was a comedy show with a Smiler as the joker. He watched it for around an hour before something tragic happened to the studio the live comedy show was filmed in what looked like to be Level 3. It was unfortunately the last time he was ever heard from. The M.E.G. wasn't informed about the situation until more disappearances started to pop up in Level 9, Level 17, and Level 69 two months after the incident first occurred. Once 2 members from Outpost Omicron were dispatched to figure out what was causing these disappearances, they wound up making the exact same mistake as Jacob. They watched the movies which seemed to be some horror film. An unknown figure was chasing 3 innocent people to the depths of Level 0. When one of the individuals got caught and inventively ripped apart by this figure, one of the members apart of the investigation died. The other one cut to black around 15 minutes later.

Archived Log: Operation Watch 'n' Assist

This log describes and narrates Operation Watch 'n' Assist, carried out by a group of researches from M.E.G. Outpost Omicron.

Jerry Diamond: Ok, so, what was this expedition about again?

General Clark: It's about a disappearance that happened in the level a while back. Let's say, around two months ago.

Flitch Walkman: Seriously? Why didn't you dispatch us sooner general?

General Clark: Fuck's sake, for the last time, we didn't know what caused these damn disappearances.

Flitch Walkman: Making us do the dirty work? Damn.

<Jerry places his almond water bottle on top of a Television>

Jerry Diamond: Ow!

Flitch Walkman: You ok?

Jerry Diamond: Was that the Television the general was talking about?

Flitch Walkman: I don't even know man, you can't ask me questions like this.

Jerry Diamond: Touch it, I dare you.

Flitch Walkman: Ok, ok, whatever.

Jerry Diamond: OK, gotta end this log cause I don't want anybody to hear thi-

Jerry Diamond: FUCKING HELL, FLITCH DIED, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT! I JUST CAN'T.

General Clark: What is all that commotion I hear over the radio?

Jerry Diamond: Its Flitch, he died...

<Sobbing can be heard>

General Clark: Another one down... Come back to base.

Jerry Diamond: Ok, I will make sure to-

Relationships with other Entities

Despite being immobile, the Televisions surprisingly have relations with other entities, especially when it comes to what they can communicate with. These are the most known ones studied by an unknown group

  • Partygoers: The Partygoers have this belief that the Televisions know something about them that they don't, and that, if the information is spread out to the public, it could mean extinction for the entities race. They hunt down and unplug their feeding tubes as a result to keep said information out of the public eye. What they shown on the screen was in relation to Level Fun. The photo shown an organ of some kind that was seen in the level by the Televisions. This could mean that the level itself is a living organism of some kind, which we have yet to identify.
  • Facelings: The entity will always act kind around facelings. It will even play movies to the entity in hopes for some entertainment revenue, or even something that resembles some sort of appetition in return.
  • The Crimson Wanderer: The Crimson Wanderer is the only entity to understand what a Television feels. The Crimson Wanderer will always show compassion for the entity, and will have conversations with a Television that usually last an hour or two.
  • The Storyteller: Whenever this entity is in the presence of a Television, it will show extreme fear by showing something the Television finds scary, like a Liminal Space, an entity it already fears, death, the freezing cold, humid weather, something lurking in the dark, etc.
  • The Gardener: Televisions always have an irrational fear over this entity. Whenever she is near it, the entity will always show pictures of the Greek God Medusa on the screen. When asked about The Gardener in general, the Television grows hostile, releasing a Tele-Figure as a result. It is unknown why it engages in such activities when asked about this one entity in particular, however it could be a sign that the Televisions knows something about The Gardener that it doesn't want to share.
  • Zalgo: Zalgo has been rumored to spy on the Televisions for reasons unexplained. It is unsure if he uses the Televisions as a meat shield to keep a low profile, or if he is using them for something entirely different.
  • Radios: They seem to admire each others company. If they are in the same room as each other, the radio will play some relaxing music to help the Television cope with strangers. When attacking, if the Television summons a Tele-Figure, the radio will put on some chase music, causing anyone stunned on the floor to get back up. The people will immediately start running from the area. The chase music will somehow, speed up the Tele-Figure to lightspeed. It is unknown why this is the case. Televisions will refrain from releasing a Tele-Figure in the presence of a Radio-Figure because of the Radio-Figure's irrational fear of the Tele-Figures.
  • Mortis Abelson: When these entities are in the same room with one another, they don't want to interact. The exact reason for this behavior is unknown.
  • EAS: The Televisions don't seem to be found of the EAS being within their system. It will try to remove the entity off of itself, using unknown anti-virus software exclusive towards the Televisions.
  • Star Creator: Many rumors were going around saying that the Star Creator attacked this entity without any reason or purpose. When asked about this event by the Televisions POV, they said it had to do with a Tele-Figure attacking her for no distinct reason as to why. All Televisions fear of this entities presence.
