The Afterparty is an anomalous sublevel of Level Fun, specifically the Party Rooms.
Description
The Afterparty is a series of interconnected rooms containing many party supplies, each resembling a classic children's party venue. Just as mazelike and labyrinthine as its parent level, this sublevel is eerily devoid of any sentient presence due to certain phenomena which shroud its ever-shifting halls, exuding a strange atmosphere of melancholy loneliness comparable to the innate and silent emptiness of the house after the party has ended and the guests all gone home. Dozens of party hats sit, unmoving, on cold and unused wooden tables; and from the chairs which nobody sits on there are slung colourful helium balloons, floating straight up in the air, never seeming to droop nor lose their gas, like a breath inhaled but not yet released, waiting for hours untold to be exhaled.
Though there exist no physical dangers in the Afterparty, it is known that many psychological perils are present here. Live recordings from explorers roaming the level have described hearing human screams emanating from the depths of the winding corridors, starting out soft but eventually rising in intensity until the wanderer can bear it no longer, and is either driven insane or drops dead from the auditory overload. Intriguingly, these shrieks appear to be hallucinations propagated by the Afterparty, as they have never been able to be recorded, only heard by those who are actively present amongst the halls of the forsaken labyrinth.
Many who have found a way out of the Afterparty were reported to have already gone insane, displaying interchangeably the behaviour of both wretches and partygoers, which includes the desperate clawing of the skin with no apparent goal and an insatiable hunger than often drives victims of the level to such measures as cannibalisation. The lucky few who have escaped the Afterparty with their life and their sanity were forever scarred afterwards, notably displaying a similar demeanour as those who have escaped Level ! — though unlike the wanderers who have leapt from the jaws of the exclamation, there is every chance that escapees of the Afterparty may stumble back into its clutches, especially in the few months following their egress of the level.
Entities
The Afterparty is completely devoid of entities. The effects of Phenomenon 15 notwithstanding, researchers have wondered why there are no signs at all of partygoer or SFV presence within the level, considering it is a sublevel of the Party Rooms. When asked to comment on this detail, Sir Caius Taggert, the de facto sovereign of Level Fun, replied that the partygoers simply "prefer a more fun place to party at".
Colonies and Outposts
Due to the Alone Phenomenon and the hazardous nature of the Afterparty, no groups or colonies have been established in this level.
Discovery
It is well-known that the pre-Flicker iteration of Level Fun was simply a mazelike complex, presumably later transforming into the infamous Party Rooms. Following the events of the Flicker, Level Fun then managed to evolve into a triad of even more labyrinthine layers, and though the Party Rooms was one of these sectors, it was evident that something had changed — the Party Rooms were far too bright and vividly coloured, nothing like the original duller appearance of the partygoers' domain.
Then, in 2018, a lone Party Crasher stumbled upon a new level. It resembled more than anything what the Party Rooms had been pre-Flicker, and the league decided that they must have stumbled upon a new sublevel of Level Fun: the Afterparty. In the years following the level's discovery, researchers deduced that the Afterparty was split from Level Fun during the Flicker, and they theorised that one half of this riven level was warped by the incident into what we know today, whilst the other half was not altered as much — thus becoming the Afterparty. However, many unanswered questions still remain about the level, such as that of why no Sanguine Festivus still lingers there, if it was truly created by a split from its parent level. Additionally, certain hypothesists believe that the entire existence of the Afterparty has, in fact, something to do with the Party Host and his mind-warping abilities.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
The most common fashion in which wanderers are known to enter the Afterparty is through a ramshackle wooden door in the Party Rooms or the Play Rooms. This door has been described as terribly out-of-place amongst the bright colours of the level, and may also be distinguished by certain marks such as a bloodied smiley face scratched into the decaying wood. However, the following methods of entry to the Afterparty have also been recorded:
- Stepping into an anomalous dark puddle in Level 3 which shows a warped reflection (often including a Glasgow smile) of the wanderer will cause one to clip through it as if it were a false puddle, and enter the Afterparty.
- Following sounds of screaming mixed with demented laughter in Level 5 has a chance to lead one to the Afterparty.
- Entering a section of Level 38 where the level's hue is mute green rather than orange will cause one to eventually pass out and wake up in the Afterparty.
- In Level 434, finding a house in which balloons are attached to the furniture will act as a seamless transition to the Afterparty.
Exits
The Afterparty is known to have been exited in these various ways:
- The halls may sometimes fade into the bouncehouses of Level Fun.
- Opening a heavy, dark blue door apparently composed of marble will lead one to Level 37.1.
- No-clipping through an arcade machine which rarely appears will send one to the Final Arcade of Level 399.
- Breaking through the wall with one's teeth may open a rift to the Snackrooms. This is mostly known to happen when victims of the Afterparty succumb to the insane hunger bestowed upon them by the level, and attempt to eat the walls in desperation.
- Opening a red door fashioned with an exclamation mark will lead one to Level !.
There are several other loosely documented methods of egress, such as one purported by a wanderer who supposedly no-clipped through some pipelines in the Afterparty and ended up in Level 2. However, none of these rumours have been officially confirmed.
